Finally!, someone took the time to explain how the move tool works. There are so many nuances to it and you covered them all. I think I know the answer to this ques. The center ball is yellow but when you move the anchor point it turns blue, is that correct?
I have watched quite a few of the DSM videos but yours is perfect for the newbie AND you're the only one allowing us to see what clicks or keys you are using. Many of the Blender instruction videos do this and none of the Fusion vids I've seen do this. Blender is too big for me to learn for my concerns. I like Fusion but not enough details by instructors. If you took this teaching approach with Fusion I believe you would have quite a few newbies (my self included) there as well. Once again, Thank you.

Thank you, thank you... I may tackle Fusion 360 at some point... Now that "winter" has finally broken here, I am chomping at the bit to get outside and start BUILDING stuff... so there will be a lot of "fabrication" videos coming that include the "design and model" aspects...
You are correct about the anchor point. it changes to show if it is the "default" location or has been changed to a selected location...

@@fabricationplanet Do you know how to permanently change the move anchor on an object? I have an imported STP which I aligned to my existing model (which is oriented normally with 0,0,0.) However when I re-enter the move tool on the component it's anchor is askew and if I used the handles as-is it would move off the plane with which I aligned it.

I like how you explained the move of a surface and the complete object. This is missing in many videos.

I was looking for a way to move an object in the _center_ between two others, and didn't find a hint in the docs, or on YT yet.

I do not fully understand the exact situation, but in general, the TWO easiest methods I would use...
ONE: IF A FEATURE EXISTS that is in alignment from the center of first object to the center of the second object... use the measure tool to find the measurement "center-to-center", divide it in half to find center distance and then use the move tool and set the anchor/direction to the FEATURE and move the third object... (a lot of "if" in this method)
TWO: Make a reference line... go into "sketch mode" and select a "sketch plane" that allows you to draw a "construction line" between the centers of the two objects. This allows you to then use the construction line for alignment, and the "center" of the construction line IS the center point...
      Hope this helps...

Thanks for a fantastic set of videos, great stuff. I have a question and hope you can help....often when I move a shape into another shape they merge and become one....how can I stop this?

Awesome Feedback! Thank you for asking a question I can answer!
The easiest way to keep items separated while working in a design is to make separate "components" in the "Structure Tree" in the left-hand column (right-click then "new component"). You can make new components under other parts to make assemblies and organize them in the structure, and then "activate" the component you are working on ( right-click then "activate component".
"Solid" components should not "combine" (Merge) during a "move" function... But if you are "pulling" a face of a solid, and it overlaps another solid in that same "activated" part it will automatically "combine" (Merge) unless you select the "No-Merge" option in the left-hand column...
      Hope that helps!!!
