ASIANA A380 FIRST CLASS SUITES: Bangkok to Seoul

  • This adventure today takes onboard my second ever A380. Asiana has a few A380s in their service and these 12 seats that sit in the front of the lower deck used to be sold and marketed as “First Class” but are now sold as “Business Suites” making them just an upgraded Business Class seat. This drastically changes the inflight service, but the seat itself is still fantastic.
    Let me know your thoughts on this Not-First Class cabin on Asiana’s A380s!

    Every time an airline knows that it is going to be acquired by another company, the employees change and the desire to serve and the quality of good service that was previously drops to zero. I speak from experience of many years in the industry. Asiana has been talking about being acquired by Korean Airlines since 2020, but due to the pandemic things have been delayed but the atmosphere has been felt by the employees since the first announcement, I'm sorry for Asiana, for me it was better in service than Korea Air Lines, and unfortunately the good things of a company are never inherited by the one that buys. RIP ASIAN

    Thank you for an enjoyable flight review ! Personally I really don't enjoy relatively short overnight flights, but you seem to have managed to make yourself quite comfortable.
    I have never flown in a premium cabin on Asiana. However, I have done Seoul - London a few times, including connecting from that redeye from Bangkok. For me one important test of an airline is how bearable they are on a long haul flight in economy and in this respect Asiana have done pretty well each time I've flown with them.

    I love Asiana! I used to always fly them to Cebu in the Philippines; from LAX. The only problem I had with Asiana was the flights into Cebu arrived so late in the am (like 1-2am). The service and food you get on Asiana is incredible. But, next time we head back to Cebu, will be flying Singapore Airlines most likely.

    It will be interesting to see what happens when the merger with Korean Air is complete. I know they will no longer be Star Alliance but Skyteam. A window seat is an upgrade? BTW, your walkthrough of BKK will be helpful on my next trip to Bangkok. Previously, I transferred from Chiang Mai, so I only dealt with transit security and didn't have time to explore duty free or restaurants before by departure to Taipei.

      In all airline mergers, both airlines must be in the same Airline alliance; much like how Continental was under SkyTeam until their merger process with United was underway. In Asiana's case they have to renounce their Star Alliance membership for SkyTeam once their merger is approved, which many nations have not yet signed the MoU.

  • @perryugalde639
    @perryugalde639 Год назад +7

    Perhaps the downgrade in service/experience is due to Asiana merging with Korean Air. This merger may also be the reason Delta eliminated asian routes from SEA, which is supposed to be Delta's asian gateway and primary west coast hub. KL is a Sky Team member, so the carrier can provide extensive reach for DL fliers. A major downside is DL fliers must now connect through ICN. Non-stop routes are a thing of the past, which frustrates me.

    • @PatrickSheaAviation
      @PatrickSheaAviation  Год назад

      I also wonder how the merger will affect star alliance hubs like San Francisco which have a large amount of traffic to Asia if Asiana, one of Asia’s largest star alliance carrier goes away

There are a few avegeek and mileage runners on here so it would be interesting to see how you killed time in a city, where you stayed and where you ate (even if just a McDonald’s). • @PatrickSheaAviation

      The comparison to first class mostly comes from the fact that these were built to be first class. The downgraded service recently after rebranding it is just unfortunate. But if you judge it as a business class you are correct

    18:41 if you were watching NBC ABC CBS SF Bay/LA late night talk shows they would have talked about K-pop and Kdrama which is what the Asiana IFE System has for the Korean option. If I need to fly Asiana JFK to CRK which is actually the closest airport to Bataan Province🇵🇭 I would have used Korean pop music kdrama. For Philippines to South Korea I see Asiana 🇰🇷> PR🇵🇭 Japan🇯🇵 to Philippines 🇵🇭 Partner NH 🇯🇵> PR🇵🇭. If your local Airport is LAX and SFO the NH/JL flight to NRT/HND does carry MNL passengers so is the OZ/KE to ICN for MNL CRK CEB. One reason which is actually avoiding PR🇵🇭 which you should try if applicable to do so. On PR try the Filipino menu option

    I don’t think it’s worth it now. I’ve flown it from JFK to Incheon back when it was operated as “real” First Class. Service was top notch. Cabin crew were always walking by and very attentive, starting with escorting to the seat to preparing the bed. They also helped with connection informations prior to arrival. Not to mention that catering was also much better like caviar and better mid-flight snacks. The only thing this Business Suites has is the same seat and unfortunately Asiana’s business class amenity and services are just mediocre. 💔
