I play a few different games, but all of them are skirmish-level games... This Is Not A Test, Stargrave, Killteam, Space Weirdos, Planet 28, and Reign In Hell. The nice thing is, most of the games I play are sci-fi or at least sci-fi-ish so I can swap minis and terrain between them pretty easily. I can even use my demons from Reign In Hell as aliens or just "space demons" for some generic grimdark goodness.
@@Mikey__R Yeah I had stopped playing them for a long time but then my son started getting into them after he stumbled upon some old minis I had from years back. Its a hobby we enjoy together. Plus I run RPGs as well in between. We game a lot in our household.
That's a big reason I am sticking with miniatures agnostic games as much as I can, with very few exceptions. Being able to use a squad of humans with spears and shield between 4 or 5 published rule sets is such a blessing - all I need is a movement tray to fit their bases on!
Real cool talk! I'm big on system hopping, which is what eventually pushed me towards doing reviews. It can be a smidge alienating wanting to try so many systems, cuz most people are happy to stick with just a few. This way, I get to try them, talk about them, and still make some form of social connection through them.
I also like the buffet and the "buffet". Variety has been said, is the spice of life. I also enjoy the camaraderie of the hobby and friendships formed out of it. From talking about collecting armies, sharing tips for painting, watching a young painter or player getting better at the hobby, hearing about a combination of tactics that worked in a game or a story of great exploits of one character during a game are all wonderful moments within the hobby. That's why I like to play several games, even if it's just scratching the surface of some of them so I can find common ground. It's also why I love building DIY Terrain or customizing store bought terrain. It's become a social outlet for me and I recognize the value in that, especially within the confines of the latest health crisis. Also, loved the ending of this video.
Skeletons vs Elves in a sci-fi village setting? Sounds like a good time to me! All you would need is for the Robot Squirrels to show up halfway through the battle, and there'd be pandemonium!!
I totally get this reason. But tell me if anyone else has the same experience as me. Everyone at my local shop that plays one game ends up with five to ten factions for that game. I play four different games. I only collect one faction in each. I am spending less money and playing more games. Is the better question "how many armies do you play?"
@@joshuaharms9564 If I am buying something, it'll usually have 2 factions in the box and I'll make them the ones I play or collect. It's always a bonus if I can use those minis in other games and I try to aim for that as well.
I mean, you can probably get into some model agnostic games. A lot of them are either entirely free or have some sort of demo PDF with the basic rules for gameplay.
Good points. I think one of the most salient ones you touched on was that for the really high level competitive players, in order to be "good" are playing the rules primarily and whatever game it is as a secondary consideration. At that level I have to say that's a different hobby than the one I enjoy but that's ok. Everybody can enjoy whatever they want. Cheers!
Same it happens in video games sometimes for mostly the same resions just swap space with hardware... But one thing that is odd about Table top is that people honestly call 40k and DND their hobby just imange a Fortnight, Call of Duty player that.
I try out many different games just to check out the rules, but I usually do skirmish games since it doesn't take as many miniatures and terrain pieces. Great video as always!
Skirmish games got me into tabletop war gaming. I would get bored with a large army. The metaphor of the buffet is perfect. Thanks to Kill Team, I have a little of most factions. I'm looking forward to using my D&D minis for Frostgrave too. Thanks to being an Eldar fan, I also get to play historical miniatures 😁
I keep hearing about one page rules and the game they made for their miniatures. Have you played their game by chance? Also, new to hobby. I enjoy your videos and use this hobby to combat my mental illness. It’s amazing what it can do for you. Wish I knew sooner. Thanks for all you do.
I've played one page a few time (Grimdark Future). It's fun, and pretty simple. Easy to learn, etc. The only issue I had, was it got stale pretty quick, due to the lack of special characters/rules like Warhammer offers. If you're new to the hobby, I strongly recommend one page rules. If after a few games you're enjoying it, then great! It's an easy and affordable way to play. But, if you're left wanting more depth, then you can look into other games that will have a lot more rules. But playing one page will make learning those other games a lot easier, I would think.
AoS is my main game but I also love playing Frostgrave, KillTeam, Warcry... And I love sampling everything that seams interesting like 40k, Reign in Hell, Planet 28, Malifaux, etc... I even enjoy checking out dead games like Wrath of Kings (I got the minis for it for cheap) and Confrontation (which I've played with proxies).
Well said and great video, being new to tabletop wargames I can relate to the buffet parallel. I'm more interested in the models and painting what I enjoy more than concentrated on one faction of one game to the point of tabletop ADHD so thank goodness for Reign in Hell and other miniature agnostic games.
I always wanted to play many games, but the money is tight. At last i discovered One Page Rules and now i just focus on getting the models i want and making my army.
@@Watafakmatafak so have you tried out the one page rules very much? Do they work well? I am pretty new to war gaming I always wanted to try it out but my time was mostly devoted to D&D until I finally got sick of WOTC inserting their politics into the games last year and started building armies for 40k and AOS. Now that things are getting kinda back to normal I am eventually going to get my first games in but there are just a ton of rules that I don't want to constantly have to stop the game during just to look up because I forgot most of them. The one page rules look like they are a lot less hassle to deal with
Everytime I feel like getting back into miniature wargaming. The game I want to play is either dead or the game I liked playing have changing rules (I just fine I understand I don't play enough). So I started buying board games
No game is truly dead, they may not be supported officially, but if warmaster is alive and thriving in 2021 any game can be 3D printing is truly a wonder
@@GeneJordan and in the case of warmaster there is a fan run rules committee that takes submissions for changes, so the rules are “alive” without needed to change JUST to keep it fresh or sell models
I've always been a big advocate of other games. People get caught in the GW rut but all you need is two or more friends willing to make the jump with you and there are so many options that also tend to be cheaper
Yeah, I agree with you here. I don't mind sticking to a single game, but I can see sticking to GW being somewhat harmful in the long run, especially if you're worried about your wallet.
This happens in the RPG community as well, a lot of people just stick to D&D and don't experiment with the literally hundreds of better/cheaper games out there.
@@fabricatorgeneralcaz534 out of my head there is Stargrave, Frostgrave, Zona Alpha, Turnip28, Reign in Hell, Five Parsecs from Home, Infinity, Rangers of Shadow Deep, Gaslands, so on and so forth. There's plenty of cool stuff out there : )
@@fabricatorgeneralcaz534 I know a lot of people are turned off by a licensed IP. But I always try telling people about A Song of Ice and Fire. I honestly think it is more balanced, more fun, and cheaper than any of GW's games. Good game and great community.
I try to keep it to my Big Three (Armada, X-Wing and Legion). I don't have the time or the money to really diversify that much. I do eye Bolt Action from time to time, but I have a pile of Legion stuff that needs my attention and really don't want another game in my pile of shame at this time. I am open to independent rule sets like Starbreach, where I can use existing minis from other games.
I'm in the skirmish smorgasbord camp. Being able to change up games is refreshing (for me) and helps me avoid burnout. Kill Team one week, Bushido the next, or maybe Relicblade, Judge Dredd, Drowned Earth, Counterblast. Maybe I have too many games... 🤣
Lifestyle games is not my thing, neither for miniature games or board games, but I do try to finish projects for one game at a time so I don't just play games I haven't finished painting for yet. :D
That's why I don't play games with dedicated models and only go with historicals. This way you can use them for whatever system that is bases on the period. I mean- a Roman army will always have legioneries, a Viking army will always have bondi and hirdmen- no matter the system. I mostly play skirmish games with my Saxons and Vikings, but I can put them on movement trays, and now I can play a mass battle system. My terrain works for everything. This way we can test multiple systems and decide which one feels right.
The Space Hulk Bible permits more play scenarios from an already excellent game. The expanded rules and stats let me take most models from my collection on a deep space bug hunt or potentially recreate a ship to ship, marine versus marine battle of the Horus Heresy.
Listening to your points I suddenly realised a major difference between the historicals and the fantasists. Fantasy/Sci-Fi gamers follow the rule writers, in historical games the rules follow us. I suppose, and please correct me if I'm wrong, without the 'coda' fantasy and sci-fi doesn't have a consistent basis for the game. If historical rules change we have the history to fall back on. Where, one assumes, the rivet counters have little sway amongst fantasy players but you are beholden to a subjective outside commercial and lore/rule writing force. Historical players are most definitely in the thrall of rivet counters but owe nothing to commercial and rule writing forces as the historical facts generally trump all. Interesting article 👍
BOOM. Nailed it. I agree wholeheartedly. It's far easier for me to write scenarios for historical games than for sci-fi games because I can always fall back on the history to fit the rule set. Not the other way around.
Avoiding a large pile of shame would be another reason to stick to one. I want to play lots of different games but don't have the time to build and paint the range of minis and terrain I now have for various games.
WW2 is the easiest of them all. And yes, for half the money i spent on GW stuff. I could get one or even two full WW2 armies. So there is a lot of shame. It's really nice to try out games without the need to buy new minis. I just wish my local bring historical wargame here first rather then WARHAMMER. Could have avoid lot of pain.
I refer to my unpainted and unassembled models as a "Pile of Opportunities". I try to spend an hour each night assembling, painting, or basing and about 4 hours over each weekend painting, etc. It feels better when progress is being made.
Regarding diversification vis-a-vis new editions, your [Previous Number] Edition 40k book is readily available on eBay or is even still on your shelf; the game can still be played. You didn't 'lose' your hobby. I have a shelf of 1st edition White Wolf books that say so.
I think the major limiting factor for why a lot of people don't play more games is more often than not you're limited by what your friends want to play or what stores/clubs in your local area play. For instance I'd love to to give warmahordes a go, but none of my friends are interested, and all stores and clubs in my area play is 40k, AoS, MtG, and bolt action. I have been able to get a couple of them to try kings of war and another friend got me to play gaslands, both of which I enjoy but I'm definitely putting more into the former as I enjoy wargames a lot more than skirmish games.
I play AoS atm, gonna start with kill team and warcry in the near future. I like the variations of different games, the only downside that I can think off are all the different rulesets. Love your channel keep it up
I don't play any games anymore but I do paint miniatures from a few various games, I feel like that gives me new things to try out but of course also new cool models so in a sense that sort of keeps me going and keeps me away from getting too bored as I would easily get bored or even burned out if I only painted say Gw stuff all the time.
So perhaps a question for your musings. I have limited myself to one army to be painted, experimented with and try out the contrast paints. I have plenty of other things to paint and I have not been pushing myself very much. But when I am painting it is a great release and so enjoyable. I started 18 months ago, have had a health issue interrupt, but have completed 31 models from Hell Brute to Pox Walkers and am just finishing up some Blight Drones. So do you think it is a good idea to restrict yourself to one project at a time? Of course the next problem is what next? Finish my Desert Rats, do Blood Bowl team, Sisters or Mechanicus. Though I have Nelsonian ships to build and paint. Nelsonian because he hand Napoleon his arse every time Boney's men took him on.
i only play D&D 5e,we aim to play every Saturday realistically we average out at twice a month ,my intention was to run campaigns but what i have found out as a 50 yr old DM and my mates of a similiar age is life gets in the way work ,wives and kids,so i have changed my direction and make my adventures done over a few sessions and keep em short, when my friends can't make it then i paint models or add notes to the adventure or research for new adventures and feel fortunate that my mates still want to play with so much going on in their lives.
It's easier to justify purchasing a cool model or sets of models if there are multiple different games you can use them in. A wizard mini can be used in Age of Sigmar or Warcry, but also Frostgrave or Mordheim, or in D&D, or in One Page Rules's Age of Fantasy, or even arguably some Sci Fi games (depending on how they look and what you have to work with).
Started out with 40K and Flames of War, I brought the starter kits for both. I found myself just focusing on 40K. The storage issue can be areal problem for terrain because FoW is 15mm and 40K is 28mm. I also have some Avalon hill games.
One game? ONE GAME?! Chance'd be a fine thing. I'm currently not playing any games, because there's no groups locally (that I can find), no clubs (that make themselves known), my usual gaming buddy (20 miles away) has given up and decided standing around in a charity shop all day twiddling his thumbs is more entertaining, and the pandemic! Small town Mid-North Essex, UK is a wasteland when it comes to trying to get a game. Despite the affluence of the town I live in. There must be some GW patrons though because we have a GW reseller with a GW stand in his shop! I've got several games, nearly none of them current GW titles though. Warhammer Quest '95, Battlefleet Gothic, Necromunda 2003, Warlord's Judge Dredd, Blood Bowl, Aeronautica Imperialis (the Wings of Vengeance set), Space Hulk 4th edition, 1st edition WFRP. I've given up though and just become a miniature collector, not much of a choice really, currently collecting, on a very limited budget, "monsters" for Warhammer Quest '95 and a Warhammer Fantasy Battles Empire Army (yeah I know, they got squatted and what was left became Free Peoples).
As a relatively new 40k player, lots of the guys in my group have been pushing me towards Age of Sigmar. Whilst I can only ever play one army in AOS, that being Stormcast, for the sake of learning the game and saving my hobby dollars, I feel more comfortable branching out into more 40k armies like Grey Knights and custom Successor Chapters from my first army, the Raven Guard.
I play several games but I am increasingly being drawn to mini agnostic games due to the amount of figures that I have and a realisation that I just love skirmish games and don't particularly care for anything else!
I've cut myself down to just three games - Warhammer 40K, The Ninth Age and Gaslands. I can handle that. Anymore and either I'm not getting time to play them or it's costing too much money to keep up with them all.

I started with Orks in Kill Team. Bought Blackstone Fortress and got into Chaos. Picked up Warcry because my son likes it more than KT. 40K 9th edition comes out and I realize I have enough models for Combat Patrol. Picked up Frostgrave, Stargrave and Five Parsecs from Home because I already have models and terrain to play them. Reign in Hell and Forbidden Psalm is next.
I have mentioned on various forums that I play plenty of different games because. I rarely do competitions, not for 2.5 years funnily enough, and a change is as good as a holiday. So I do naval type games, historical, looking at you FoW, a couple of niche games like blood bowl. But the one that echoes one of your sentiment's was the 40K Apocalypse game. I just could not stand the overpriced cost of big units that struggled to do the damage their size would suggest they should be doing in the revamped Ed 8 & 9 v the damage that could be done by a bolter. So Warhounds v Knights, Lord of Skulls & Defilers v Bane Blade & Shadow Sword, and so on are just a scream in Apocalypse
Sometimes you want a meal, sometimes you want a snack. For me it depends on where my mood shifts, have I been watching sci-fi? What type, space soldiers fighting aliens or battle fleets. The same with historical, horse and musket or sailing ships (I guess I need some old west stuff too). Thus I look for rules light and/or mini agnostic.
I have too many games honestly. I hold on to stuff because I want to see when they come back. Most of them are skirmish games, but also stuck in SW Legion and 40K. Honestly xwing and 40K are all I play now really because of what my play groups have.

Honestly I don't play any games at all. Not cause I don't enjoy them but I don't know anyone in my area that plays games. I just moved half way across the country and so I of course don't know anyone. I buy miniatures to paint cause I enjoy painting but my local game store doesn't do anything to connect players in the area to play games together. I visit the store at least once a week to buy miniatures and/or paints and I have only seen one game of anything played in the store since I moved almost 5 months ago. I would like to learn to play wargames but there isn't really a place for me to connect with people so I can learn/play

I probably play too many game systems but occasionally I come across people who only play Blood Bowl or the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game and I kind of envy those people. If I could contain my entire wargaming hobby into Blood Bowl, I'd probably be a happier guy.
My Necromunda gang works for stargrave as well probably for plenty of things. Building some fantasy stuff at the mo. Works for Mordheim, warcry and frostgrave. Sure I could find many more systems. Don't obsess with what the mini is or what system it was made for. Someone with a ray gun or shotgun a big melee weapon etc will transfer over easily enough even if not armed exactly as described. Undo the brainwashing of GW telling you only specific official mini's can be used.
I feel the pain of playing sci-fi and fantasy systems. Storage of all that terrain is a real issue. I play Frostgrave, Rangers of Shadowdeep, also Stargrave, Hardwired, and Reality's Edge. Reign in Hell can be played on both terrain types. The mini agnostic games I can pick miniatures I want to paint!
Dammit, Atom. This is the second time in a week you're saying exactly the thing I need to hear. I feel like I've trapped myself in my first game, which I like ... sometimes ... and I'm trying to give myself permission to play something else. Also -- what are those blue robot-looking models at the 8:07 mark? In general, I'm a "paint the minis so I can play the game" kind of guy, but those look cook enough I might paint them just to paint them.
@@tlink98 I actually found them -- I had replied to myself, with a link, but that's gone and disappeared. (Maybe RUclips thinks I was spamming?) Look for "battle droids" by Papsikels. They're 3-D printed minis, and I've already ordered some prints. :-)

I switched to skirmish rules (like Adv Song of Blades and Heroes) or solo play (5 Parsecs from Home) which let me use my Boardgame Minis (i.e. Descent / Zombicide Invader). Or just something from the hidden box of Necromunda, Frostgrave, Blackstone stuff I keep in my cave. GW is redoing their rulesets and releasing new editions faster than I can get into (painting all stuff and setting up armies) that game. So I stopped buying GW stuff as you are forced to buy unless you play at home with a fixed ruleset. And I like to play for fun, not with a blade between my teeth.
There 2 reasons for me why I always pay more than one. First is the way I am can cause me to feel negative when the same game over and over. Second due to not being able to book in games as my time all over the place I go TY my club with 8+ game systems in my bag (yay for skirmish) then when I turn up I can usually find someone to play.
Short answer... No. Play lots of games. :) I play everything from Judge Dredd to Mars Attacks & Flick Em Up to Cthulhu Death may Die. Variety is the spice of life. My games/toy collection is testimony to that :) Keeps me happy :)
I have to admit I have the luxury of choice in systems and clubs as I attend two different clubs a week. I've invested in 40k, age of sigmar, war cry and lord of the rings. For me it's about keeping things fresh every week. Playing 1 system week on week I burn out, so to change up every week is nice. Also the hobby feeds into the game so painting up gondorians I crave playing LOTR and visa versa. The possible negative with this is getting your value for money because if you have just 1 system you get ya bang for ya buck, but with multiple at any give time you can have 1 or 2 systems sat on a shelf. It why I make a point on playing twice a week with 2 systems of the 4 systems I own. Also it's different opponents and ok so I lost a game of 40k on Wednesday but I won a game of lord of the rings Thursday night. I don't feel like it's been a bumhole week of gaming as I won and lost and used two different armies and systems and enjoyed both.
Honestly, I'd love to play them all. I just currently do not have the correct set-up to do so. Also, the rules would confuse me a little but I'm sure I would cope.
What were those awesome little soldier robots you showed? They look wicked! I also have possibly too any games that I collect and paint stuff for, but only rarely play. But, that is at least 50 if not 60 percent of the fun I have. I almost think I get into new games just as an excuse to get a cool model or ten to build and paint.

Right now I play just Warhammer Battle and 40k. mostly because the friends I play with only have these games too. We want to try new things too, but we don't necessarily have the time or the money. But one thing for sure when I'm financillay better I'm buying Reign in Hell and Anthem of War.
Money is a factor for this. I also don't play competative anymore. This is now a hobby I am doing to do with my daughter. However I am a board came collector so I have a few different games. Thank you making a video on this interesting subject.

I play 40K and ASOIAF. I love 40K for what it is, but the ASOIAF game is also very cool. It has way import rules than 40K, it’s cheaper, you don’t have to build the minis and the rank and file system results in more medieval battle like games than 40K
I only play one war game now that being 40K. However I have been interested in trying some of the other war games. My only fear is I am a little bit of a budget gamer and trying to keep all those rules straight in my head would be super tough. I also want to play a little bit more competitive too in 40K
Time is the big reason for me only playing Mordheim. We have a group of four people and are lucky if we get a Sunday session in every month or every other month. There is just not enough time with work and other hobbies.
I’m here to be the contrary view. I also play multiple games, and there are times I somewhat struggle with it because there’s stuff I haven’t touched in over a year. Granted they were games I got into before I got into the one I can play now. So in some sense it was my gateway drug so I can’t regret doing it. I don’t know what the best answer is honestly. Sometimes I think I’ll keep it sometimes I’ll think I can sell it to clear up space for my games I do play.
I don't. I think that I have got huge amounts of value over the decades. However I don't play systems that dictate your minis or charge huge amounts regularly for books. I am much more a historic and fantasy gamer and play skirmish up to grand battles. For those games it has always been "if they look pretty much like what they are meant to be that is okay".
I keep getting interested in new games... so i kinda have several different starter sets that aren't finished, and a wide selection of minis that don't mix well... And i uhh dont get to play very often, not just because i don't know anyone/have a "localish" shop in my area but because even if i did i don't have enough finished anyway lol
I play different games mostly because its an excuse to print everything from little 6mm space ships to Giants. With that said, I played enough to know that we need a Combined Arms 6-15mm Fantasy game.
I am definitely experiencing a too many games issue. I'm trying to play about 6 different systems at army and skirmish level and I am just not getting anything finished. The crazy thing is that a lot of these games arent even really played by people in my area so I likely wont even have a chance to play. I really need to reassess my gaming priorities
Terrain concerns is a YUGE thing to consider. When you're playing like 10mm, 15mm and 28mm scale...lots of terrain building. Also, things like model basing becomes a concern and not all games are compatible. Yeah, getting the rules first is pretty important.
99.9% of wargamers that only play ONE wargame are playing 40k. They are one of the reasons I don't play that game. More and more I enjoy playing model agnostic games and using my 3D printer to get just the force I want.
Here's a thought for people who only play one game - if a next edition comes out and you don't like it - stay playing the edition you did like. I know people who still play 3rd Edition 40K - and why not? I think it's foolish to say your hobby is dead if you only play one game and you don't like the newest edition. Just don't upgrade. You can always still collect the miniatures.
Yeah, Uncle Atom's comment on that surprised me as he normally promotes that you can always play an older version. I assume he was thinking of a situation where all your opponents move onto the newer release.

Here's my hot take on why playing multiple games is good. I spoke with a store employee post-3rd Edition D&D, and he was telling me about how the d20 boom basically ruined roleplaying games sales for years. Everyone stuck with d20 for everything and weren't buying other products, leading to overstocking issues on both sides and stagnant sales all around. My concern with that trend was more rules based. If you stick with only one game, you only ever experience one thing. You only ever know one way to play, one setting, and one play style. Different games all bring something to the table. On the wargames side of things, you might learn to appreciate other styles of play or even learn new tactics that you would have never recognized under just one ruleset. Obviously you don't want to go hog wild since miniatures are expensive, but I think there's a lot to learn and appreciate by playing other games.
I don’t play the game I get - I am content to just get and paint the 40K stuff and just work on it while listening to lore and watching painting videos - while it seems like a waste to some, I just have gotten to the point in my life where I just feel too hurt by people in my life and just don’t get myself out there that much. It’s also why I have blocked a lot of hobby channels lately because they are just so negative towards the manufacturers of the games and it feels too much like what I faced in my life. But it is also the same in the comic book hobby so yeah it’s a thing.
Loved the video! Just getting into the channel and it's really helping me out. I do have a question. Which models were on the thumbnail for this video and at the 8:02 mark? They look really cool!

I would love to play many different games but at the moment I struggle to event dedicate some little time to just a single one game 😞 Not even considering the hobbist side of hobby which is even more time demanding. Anyway ... to everyone its own way of enjoing the hobby. Luckily enough we live a hobby which has gotten a lot more free in those latest years... Nowadays you can approach a lot of different and unique ways of enjoing the hobby: from the single game super focused competitive-like try harder to the very casual-like multiple-system... Or maybe a narrative only background lover that focus in particular scenarios and campaings ... And the nice thing is that everything works as long you are enjoing yourself
Can someone tell me which miniatures are shown in the video thumbnail! They look great a bit robocop-ish or Neil blomkamp chappie-ish....like to get them....

Yes the pile of shame is required. Currently I have BT, FoW, Black Seas, Deadzone, and Blood & Plunder all in my pile of shame. I never seem to fully complete any 100% except for Armada (since that is pre-painted)
Although money is always a big factor when it comes to to trying new stuff, there's also the sunken cost thing, or should I say, sunken time time, I mean, I've gotten into hobby last year through Kill Team and switched to One Pages Rules Grimdark Future Firefight (I even tried the new Kill Team and really liked it, but I just don't have the time nor the patience to keep up with erratas, FAQs, White Dwarf articles, and box sets they're realeasing, such a freaking mess), and I kinda don't want to change systems, or better yet, I don't want to change genres because that would mean starting over again with making all the terrain and all getting miniatures, so on and so forth. I would really like to try something like frostgrave or even Age of Fantasy Regiments, but I just don't have as much time as I had when the pandemic first started, so I would keep myself inside my SciFi sphere, adding one piece of terrain here, one new warband there, so on and so forth.
I'm way past army games right now.
@@Mikey__R Yeah I had stopped playing them for a long time but then my son started getting into them after he stumbled upon some old minis I had from years back. Its a hobby we enjoy together. Plus I run RPGs as well in between. We game a lot in our household.
Nice list...I'm copying it for search and reference.
Everyone gangsta until the crab people show up.
“How effective is a Panzerfaust against a Troll, Heinz?”
No, no, for the Pandamonium you need Space Pandas
Money is the big reason I don't play more different games. That said, I'm pretty content with the few games I play, so that's nice.
I totally get this reason. But tell me if anyone else has the same experience as me.
Everyone at my local shop that plays one game ends up with five to ten factions for that game. I play four different games. I only collect one faction in each. I am spending less money and playing more games.
Is the better question "how many armies do you play?"
@@joshuaharms9564 Depending on the genre, though, armies or warbands could be usable in multiple different games.
Cheers!
For me it was also a big surprise when i found out that some people just play 1 kind of game, and not only in Tabletop but also videogames for example
What do you use them for 40k? AOS?
@@josephskiles i intended to go with kings of war.
@@Watafakmatafak cool, I wanted to try that out as well. I collect goblin and troll miniatures and they have some very cool ones!
@@josephskiles nice man ;) i just bought some centaurs and dwarfs to make an Bastion inspired army from Heroes 3
The one page rules look like they are a lot less hassle to deal with
Also when you play historicals or miniature agnostic games you can easily test new rules with the same models.
Everytime I feel like getting back into miniature wargaming. The game I want to play is either dead or the game I liked playing have changing rules (I just fine I understand I don't play enough).
So I started buying board games
No game is truly dead, they may not be supported officially, but if warmaster is alive and thriving in 2021 any game can be
3D printing is truly a wonder
@@cjwyalk7843 Very True. Plus, once they are no longer officially supported, you don't have to worry about the rules changing constantly.
@@GeneJordan and in the case of warmaster there is a fan run rules committee that takes submissions for changes, so the rules are “alive” without needed to change JUST to keep it fresh or sell models
Or there are community driven successor games. 9th age being the successor to WHFB for example.
And I know they're not a thing everywhere, but gaming clubs so you don't have to worry about terrain just helps a lot. :D
Can you give any examples of really good games or universes?
Which ever that you enjoy and makes you smile at that moment in time isn’t bad
'I mean I love a buffet' that blindsided me. Interesting video with some good perspectives, thank you for making it.
Avoiding a large pile of shame would be another reason to stick to one. I want to play lots of different games but don't have the time to build and paint the range of minis and terrain I now have for various games.
And that is why historical wargame is great.
@@viettrungtran4500 What point in history? WW2, for example, will comfortably gather you a bigger pile of shame than GW, though probably cheaper.
Hi Uncle Atom, quick question, from what model line are the 3 soldiers at the 8:02 minute mark in this video? Thank you and keep up the great work!
What figures are those in the thumbnail?

I started with Orks in Kill Team. Bought Blackstone Fortress and got into Chaos. Picked up Frostgrave, Stargrave and Five Parsecs from Home because I already have models and terrain to play them. Reign in Hell and Forbidden Psalm is next.
Gaslands. So great and doesn't need a lot of physical commitment or financial investment.
I've been wanting to try it and have built a few cars/trucks with 40k bits unfortunately I can never find the rules at the games stores I go too

Do to a TBI I find it is easier for me to play just one model wargame. But I love painting up models from different games and more so board games.
I have too many games honestly. I hold on to stuff because I want to see when they come back. Most of them are skirmish games, but also stuck in SW Legion and 40K.
Honestly xwing and 40K are all I play now really because of what my play groups have.

Why do I like to stick to only a few games? The depth. When you get deep enough you see a level of the game that you didn’t know existed.

@@tabletopminions Yes! I've got some ordered and on their way. :-) And now, I'm falling down the "what else can I get printed?" rabbit hole.
While not actually playing them yet, I'm drowning in game/miniature purchases lately. Malifaux, Battletech, Conquest...and all the GW.

Getting myself to look at other systems, and planning games over TTS, has helped stave off the frustration at how GW is handling AOS 3.0
Right now I play just Warhammer Battle and 40k. mostly because the friends I play with only have these games too.
We want to try new things too, but we don't necessarily have the time or the money.

I play more Miniatures agnostic and historical games so playing multiple games is not expensive.
I play 40K and ASOIAF. I love 40K for what it is, but the ASOIAF game is also very cool. It has way import rules than 40K, it’s cheaper, you don’t have to build the minis and the rank and file system results in more medieval battle like games than 40K
I technically play two AoS and 40k and I have an AoS escalation game tomorrow and Im so nervous cause its my first game 😅
For the algorithm!
For the channel!
If you play a number of different games, do you ever feel you're not getting full playability or value out of any one system?
Personally, no - that’s never been a consideration. Thanks for watching!
"Get good, as the kids say" I laughed too hard at this lol
I keep getting interested in new games...
so i kinda have several different starter sets that aren't finished,
and a wide selection of minis that don't mix well...
I play Blood Bowl and Age of Sigmar, sticking to Lizards for the most part. I'm content with that!
lol when I saw the title and thought you meant in a day. It's all too tempting like a potato chip, keep on going!
Can anyone tell me what game are those models int he thumbnail is? They look dope af xD

Diversity can be expensive. Thinking about the overlap can keep the price down.....I should listen to my own advice😁
I play casual/narrative so one game doesn't cut it.
The point about not liking a new edition is exactly what happened to me when malifaux 3e came out.
As a Firefly fan I love using my Western style terrain in sci-fi games.
I play a lot of different games. Never cared about competitive play.
I love buffets too.
“Hence the pachow”; what a wonderful phrase.
Loved the video! Just getting into the channel and it's really helping me out. I do have a question. Which models were on the thumbnail for this video and at the 8:02 mark? They look really cool!
What minis are in the thumbnail?

Uncle Atom: "I love a buffet" ...damn you 2020 for taking these things from us!

I thought it was required to start 6 different games before you even finish an army for the first game you started...
This is the way
It’s not an actual *requirement* but it does seem to happen a lot. Thanks for watching!
