    You can also create your own instrument face - with or without markings - and use that as the base image. The -1 thru -4 images will layer over that on the instrument panel. Note also that the lighting effects the -1 thru -4 layers but not the background image, so you can create a dash layer with just the face markings to simulate internal instrument lighting.

    Thank you so much for making this! I've been racking my brain for weeks to figure out how I'm going to get my panel to display exactly how I want and this has been the most helpful video that I've seen!

    WOW, the video with the information I was looking for.
    I don’t know how many times in the past I read PlaneMaker Generic instrument information and all related info until I am blue in the face only to abandon the project of creating my own instrument because I never saw a video on how to get started on HOW to apply the theory in the X-Plane manual.
    Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
    I just subscribed to your videos and looking forward to see more on Generic Instrument, for instance I am trying to modify an RMI with BRG pointers that point to GPS waypoint and specifically to the RWY threshold.
    How to modify an existing default instrument without having to learn how to ‘draw it’ yet?
    I know I will have to learn how to draw my instrument in the future, but how far can I modify a default one for now?
    I will be busy reading again Generic Instruments and use your video to get started.
    Thanks again

      For modifying a default instrument you can go about it in a similar way. You can't change where it points but you can change the textures it uses. Create the same folder structure you find in x-planes cockpit folder. In your example that would be: Your_aircraft>cockpit>nav displays>RMIs>(images here). Easiest way is to copy the images from the one you want to modify into your folder, then edit them in the image editor of choice and save. For default instruments you cannot change their name.

      @@BuildItBetter3D Thanks I will try it and read about « change the textures ».
      I am still at the stage of being able to create a very good 2D panel with pre-made instruments which I find basic level and well explained in PlaneMaker manual. Beyond that, this manual leaves me on my own.
      Beyond this basic level of knowledge, the only information I could find was always too advanced and I could not make the connection to create my own.
      Your video hit the right spot on Intermediate information for me.

    Hey nice work!
    Btw Is there a way to just change Pitch/Power/Speed characteristics on an existing aircraft of xplane 11/12? Been working on that for 4 hours, but in vain.

    • @BuildItBetter3D
      @BuildItBetter3D  3 месяца назад

      You can open any existing plane in planemaker and make changes to the flight model. It can be a quick and dirty or as complex as you like. Quick power would be adding power to the engine. pitch, assuming you mean on the propeller, can also be adjusted in the propeller section. speed can be a result of those changes or you could adjust how much drag the aircraft has or streamline parts of it.

      @@BuildItBetter3D I want to practice Pitch/Power Flying on the C172 using the below values in clean configuration and at any altitude, but can't figure out what to change or in which submenus. Guess I'm too stupid for this.
      1. Horizontal Flight: 2200 RPM, 0° Pitch, 108 kts
      2. Climb: 2500 RPM, +7° Pitch, 85 kts
      3. Descent: 1700 RPM, -2° Pitch, 108 kts

    • @BuildItBetter3D
      @BuildItBetter3D  3 месяца назад

      That’s more flying practice than changing settings. If the aircraft doesn’t meet the exact numbers you’re looking for there are a lot of factors that affect that, including aircraft weight, weather and atmospheric conditions. I can’t give any specifics on how to achieve what you’re aiming for.

      Use the info I show in this video. You can layer a bunch of parts on top of each other to get the desired effect. As you start to build them it will begin to be more clear what to do.

    Can you show us, how to put a glass Cockpit into the Flyjsim 732? 😁 I really really tried to do this, but I didn’t got it working... greetings from Germany 🇩🇪

    • @BuildItBetter3D
      @BuildItBetter3D  4 года назад

      That is not a simple task, and nearly impossible without the source files. It would likely take months if not years to do. Since it is a payware aircraft I don't see it being worth it to you to try since you will not be able to share what you accomplish. If you really want one only for yourself I think it would be easier to start from scratch then to try to modify something that is so complex.

    This is for 2d Cockpit ?

    • @BuildItBetter3D
      @BuildItBetter3D  4 года назад

      These can be used in 2D and 3D cockpits. As shown in previous videos, when needed for a 3D cockpit you uv map it the same way I mapped for the G1000 screens.

    Hi, how did you create a custom Gen led? I have tried creating one from ps but I think I’m doing it wrong.

    • @BuildItBetter3D
      @BuildItBetter3D  4 года назад

      Easiest way is to grab the default one from: X-Plane 11>Resources>bitmaps>cockpit>generic. There will be three files you need: gen_LED.png, gen_LED-1.png, gen_LED-4.png. Copy these to: youraircraft>cockpit>generic. You will need to create the cockpit and generic folder if you haven't already. Now open them in PS and create a new transparent layer and make all your new changes over the top of the original. when done you hide the original layer and export as png. You can give it a new name but keep the dash numbers the same. You can scale the image larger for more resolution, but keep the aspect ratio the same. As long as all of your new numbers and symbols line up with the old ones it should work. You would then in planemaker place a gen-led and choose your new image for your gen led.

    • @BuildItBetter3D
      @BuildItBetter3D  2 года назад

      I’m not sure what you mean. This is how most new custom instruments are made. You can make very complex instruments using the generic instruments. If you need really complex, or something that x-plane doesn’t natively do, then yes it will require scripting.
