    It's refreshing to hear someone finally say that you don't absolutely need a hardware wallet. My biggest fear isn't having my keys or physical wallet stolen, I'm afraid that I'll lose them myself somehow.

    • @FullValueDan
      @FullValueDan  3 года назад +15

      Definitely a legitimate fear I had too! But with an affiliate commission on hardware wallets, very few people will tell you another solution

      You cant get your funds stolen if all a thief has is your hardware wallet. But do break up the words of your recovery phrase at 2 different places only you know, and then make a copy at 2 other places.

      I’m dead. This man recommended a software wallet over a hardware wallet. Good luck with that 😂. Does he not know just because someone steals your physical hardware wallet does not give them access to your crypto. They still need your seed phrase. Just like they will with a software wallet. Imagine using metamask without a hardware wallet. NGMI 🤣

    • @FullValueDan
      @FullValueDan  3 года назад +5

      Sure I can probably work on a walkthrough. They all function pretty much the same while the difference is the interface. Personally, I trust the older open source wallets since they've been tested thoroughly by many of the more advanced users. I wouldn't trust any wallet service that's less than 2 years old in fears of some vulnerability that leaks your keys.

    Hi Dan, I have watched you Jan 22, 2021 video "11 ways to keep your crypto safe" and download the bus picture. And then I opened it in notepad ++. I cannot find your "seedphrase" in the notepad++, and I cannot find the word "full value dan" in the notepad ++ either. I still do not know how you embed the seedphrase in the picture. The picture is still the original picture and nothing added there. Can you please elaborate more on how that picture can have the seedphrase in it? Or they have made the change to the notepad++ and I cannot add extra words to that code any more?

    Hi Dan, greetings from Germany! Best videos on cryptos ever. Many thanks! My question also relates to the save storage of cryptos: ...what is the difference between Coinbase Cold Storage and a crypto wallet (like Electrum?)?

    • @FullValueDan
      @FullValueDan  3 года назад +4

      Glad the content has been helpful and reaching people even in Germany! Good question, there are some big differences. With a crypto wallet (like Electrum), you have to be responsible for your wallet and protect the keys. Pretty much no one can access the funds if you protect it securely. Even sending your crypto to your wallet can be dangerous if you make a mistake. Electrum ONLY support Bitcoin so you can't send anything else in this example. Most crypto wallets aren't very user friendly and offer no technical support because they can't help you if your transaction gets sent incorrectly.
      Coinbase Cold Storage is a great feature that I recommend for any new user. It's like having your money in a secure bank account. Coinbase Cold Storage is called "Coinbase Vault" and supports BTC, ETH and LTC. You can set your security settings and have multiple accounts for a withdrawal:
      -Need authenticator code (you should set it
      -Need 2 (or more) email accounts to verify the withdrawal
      -48 hour time delay after the withdrawal is approved from your account.
      People constantly restate "It's not safe unless you own the keys" but that's because of the Mt. Gox hack that lost many peoples Bitcoin in the past. These days, big crypto exchanges are insured in the event of a similar hack.
      Dang, I should probably just make a video on this cause the answer is pretty long.

    I am not sure, I agree with his hardware wallet approach, but at least, he isn't blindly following the crowd and regurgitating whatever he recently "found out" or learnt on RUclips or reddit. He is sharing from his own personal experience and I respect that. The takeaway here is that there is no fixed approach to securing your crypto, different people utilize different strategies. Important thing is, you should be aware of the underlying risks involved and take necessary precautionary measures to minimize those risks.

    What’s your prediction on dogecoin

    • @FullValueDan
      @FullValueDan  3 года назад

      I'm very surprised it went up. Like all coins, people have to invest in it to be successful. The project itself is just an old copy of Bitcoin. I know the coin is "cheap" but it has a few billion in market cap. Roughly every $1 billion will cause the coin to go up by 1 cent. I'm not a doge investor, but it's all good as long as it brings more exposure to the cryptocurrency world.

      After you download Google authenticator you can take your phone offline. Authenticator still works offline and you can add QR codes. To fully protect your coins, you'll need to take them offline, but that can be VERY risky for people new to crypto. Run tests with small amounts until you get comfortable. Otherwise, splitting it up among different wallets and trusted exchanges is pretty safe.

      1. Disable 2 factor authentication on your account. You'll need your authenticator code.

    What are your thoughts on Gemini?? I've been using both Coinbase and Gemini over the past month.
    Gemini's active trade interface gives you better fees than Coinbase pro but I feel the orders take more time to fill in Gemini.
    A friend told me it's because Coinbase has a bigger market cap and therefore more liquidity.

      I have it and it's pretty similar in terms of fees to Coinbase Pro (0.5% fees). Binance.US is a pretty good option at 0.1% fees. That's true, the spread (difference between buy and sell orders) is much better on a bigger exchange with more users.

    Hello: I am REALLY enjoying your presentations. You explain things well. Thank you!! How about an in depth analysis of Voyager Brokerage----its many benefits and functions---tokens, vs exchanges, etc. Also ways to keep your info safe---VPN, Tor, hard-wired computer vs Wi-Fi computer, free antivirus, etc.

      Thanks! I can check it out (initial impression is very good). I haven't heard of them until now, but there are a lot of platforms. It looks pretty promising seeing that they support institutional investing and have some attention from some notable finance publications and they are publicly traded (lots of regulation).
      Kevin Mitnick's books are really good on cybersecurity and penetration testinI g. Basically he shows how you should protect yourself online through various ways he broke past something that "looked secure". I left some notes on that in the description.
      Quick suggestions on security: VPN for any public wi-fi (some free VPNs have been known to log your data), WiFi is good with a long password and WPA2 security, can't recommend a free anti-virus but the alternative is using a virtual machine or a chromebook. The chromebook has a "powerwash" function that just factory resets it and removes all your data.

    Sorry for the stupid question but how many phone lines I have to keep (and to pay their services ) with a different numbers to keep on them line for the verification codes. Or do you know some way how to transfer the line for verification code from the existing phone to the phone which will stay offline and to answer on the same number?

    • @FullValueDan
      @FullValueDan  3 года назад

      If you have a question, that means I could use more details in the video. By "other phone" I just mean the actual phone. You can use WiFi on it so you don't actually have to pay a monthly fee. The "offline phone" is just for "Google Authenticator" and some of your crypto wallet apps.
      I think you're thinking of 2-Factor Authentication with SMS, were you get a 6 digit text message code. You should use Google authenticator (and back up the codes) because it's the security is better. Text message verification runs the risk of someone stealing your account via "SIM swapping".
      With all that said, if you actually want another phone number (which isn't needed), you could get a free phone number from Google Voice.

    • @johnadams9041

      @@FullValueDan Oook ! Know I understand that the SMS is possible to be hacked. I am very new in this game. So - 2 questions : !-If I open the account in BINANCE and initially I chose identification via SMS , can I lather switch to 2factor authentication with a Google and how to do this. Q.No. 2- If is easier way to choose google authentication, but from another old phone , witch is connected to internet how exactly to proceed if I am opening the account from a laptop and the Google is already open into the laptop and I will receive the authentication code on the laptop. Than how to make this code to be received only on the phone witch is offline but has WiFi internet. Or may be I should open the account into the phone offline and later start using the account on the laptop?

    Thanks for all the info man, well articulated yet simple enough for peoples just starting to explore these realms. I've dipped in a little in the past put have recently dove directly into the deep-end and am having a great time re-exploring. Usually don't comment on YT vids, can't even remember the last time I did but just wanted to say, in regards to the cold storage SWIM have been tickled pink with SWIM's experience w/ the BC-Vault and I honestly took a good 5 mins to figure out whether I should even say that as I also abide by rule #1 lol but what's the point in having such a solid community of DeFi folk if you're not gonna participate in it's growth and security eh? At any rate I saw a comment that made me pull the trigger on posting (hopefully no cuck thieves see it lul) and so imma CAP this comment to them as I've seen you replied and am curious how you feel on the matter as you didn't mention it as well as inform the OP. Cheers and again, thanks for making it easier for this dopest of dope tech palatable. We need more of your mindsets out here.
