I literally had the exact same experience. I don't think I ever bought it because I had to be more selective about what games I bought in high school, but I loved it. Felt like it probably could've been a bit more refined, but I had a ton of fun with it and rented it multiple times for days and days at multiple points. RIP Family Video. They've almost entirely disappeared where I live when a ton of stores closed down and their buildings rented out by Dollar General stores. I rented something, whether a movie or a game. from the FV right on the corner of my house around least twice a month for years. I that's how I decided what games I wanted. I tried whatever I was interested in, and then if I loved it, I'd actually go out to buy it at some point. My mom started working there as a side job, and she got to see newer movies for free the weekend before street launch for home release. If I used her account for something, I'd even get the discount (or it might have been family discount). Sadly they all closed in my area, but they sold all of their stock for dirt cheap, so some friends went over and bought a bunch of Blu-rays and games for no more than $15 bucks. I bought at least a half dozen movies and just as many Nintendo Switch games for $12. A part of me wishes that physical movie and game rental stores make a comeback in popularity.v

omg me and my brother had such a blast with this game, I always loved killing hobbits with the balrog, and I absolutely LOVED riding wargs to battle on the pelennor fields. An absolutely underrated classic in my eyes

This game is so much fun with friends. I have been rendered to literal tears of laughter from the shenanigans that my friends and I have pulled. Nothing like getting chased by 4 frodos, 3 Gimlis, and 5 Aragorns in hero team deathmatch.

3:00 There's just something I miss about reading the back of a game case, opening up it's manuals (I really loved Rockstar's manuals) and what not. It really gets you into the game. That and you have to go GET the game, so it was a whole thing. That's why I still really enjoy buying old nostalgic games for my older consoles. Love 360 backwards compatibility on the OG Xbox 360 I still have.
I played this game so religiously on 360 back in the day. Me and my friends were actually some of the top players on the ladder. Friendships were made and destroyed. I was so crushed when I first got that message that they were closing down the servers.
My friends and I got this game months before they shut down the multiplayer servers and when we found out we rushed to get all the achievements that required online. It was such a good time.
I remember my friend in middle school rented this from blockbuster - we beat the story in one sitting and spent the rest of the weekend doing the individual matches I haven’t played it since but that was a damn good time and I want to play it again now

GOD WHAT A GAME! Battlefront 2 was my first shooter ever. I remember being in GameStop trading in a bunch of my dads old PS2 games and seeing that this was made by pandemic. I decided to pick it up for fort cheap and I was thoroughly surprised to see it was just a lotr skin on battlefront 2. I did not know that I NEEDED that shit in my life! I didn’t play it long but for that summer conquest was the couch coop for me and my friends. Great nostalgia trip there!
my little brother and i played the campaigns so many times in this game and instant action, one thing this game did right was the immersion of the maps and their skyboxes like with SW battles felt immersive

Using the complex vending machines and grinding at 2 a.m. I remember three players on horseback one by one by one ran into the river on The Shire map. They lost control. Newbs.

This game was dope. I feel like maybe it could've been a bit more refined in some areas, but I love the premise. The Battlefront model is a great framework that would work well with a ton of different fictional universes (Game of Thrones and Dune would be cool). It's funny, because I remember at the height of when I played Battlefront 2 thinking that it would be awesome to see this but LOTR. I don't think it's quite as good as Battlefront 2, but this is a super underrated game, and it's apparently getting remastered (unlike Battlefront 2 for some reason).
Pandemic killed it back in the day. LoTR Conquest is such a great game! Still hoping the Return of the King is remastered/ported with online multiplayer but I'm dreaming. Great game and great video Matty!

I miss Pandemic Studio. Battlefront and LOTR Conquest were fantastic games. I played this one endlessly for years on my 360.
You should check out the Battle for Middle Earth games if you haven't already, especially the mods for the second one, like the Age of the Ring mods.
