HAHAHAHA Thomas you are such a conservative German but I love your reviews. The white colour is stunning on that car and like you said the blue is also nice. The 19" wheels are rather blend for me and would have the 21" wheels and just leave the car on comfort mode because its not really meant to be sporty like its competitors. However I do think there is too much black on the R-Design and the beige colour on the Inscription looks better and more inviting, I feel it shows the beautiful interior in a better light. GREAT review as always.
realistically Toyota RAV 4 will give you more comfort at the back seats that this Volvo and possibly other "premium cars"" The reason for that are simply adjustable rear seats in the Toyota...this is a real comfort feature. This cannot be replaced by any volvo design...no matter how beautiful is this.
So much detail...I abandoned my V60 Cross Country aspirations and ended up getting a XC60 Edition T4, 190 bhp petrol basic trim with a few extras...winter pack, tinted windows, parking camera, Apple car play and 19” alloys. Great channel!!! 👍🤓
The in-depth review we've been looking forward to.. The XC60.. An astounding car followed by a spectacular review by Thomas.. 👍😁 Couldn't ask for anything more..
I've never really liked leather in cars anyway. I'm so glad Thomas has raised these issues . This was one of the reasons I loved Autogefuhl , Top Reviews
Thomas always gives the best insight into the full details of every car he reviews. This was on my shortlist with the BMW X3 but won through! The X3 was too hard for my family. Just ordered my XC60 R Design with the B4 AWD drivetrain The only problem is that I have to wait 3 months for delivery now. Thanks again Thomas!
Volvo was competent to pack all of the hight tech in the very minimalistic style. Kudos for them! BMW and the others are so distracting with over complex interior design and control features, tons of buttons, so many lights . Yes, it looks so technical but actually is so confusing and not a modern approach to deliver smooth and reliable car control ! German are about pseudo luxury. Volvo is clear winner in this category.
you could also turn this argument around, like "let vegans eat meat because the cow is killed for the hide anyway" - u see that this argument is made up by the meat eating industry to make you feel good about your consumption. It doesnt matter why someone is killed, the life itself is what matters.
While I respect your opinion, it's a mistake to confuse human life with animal life. It's not correct to say "someone" is killed when referring to an animal.
+Autogefuhl - As always Thomas, a really detailed video, many thanks indeed. I like the bright interior - nice. But steering wheel & carpets won't last long. 27:45 polite horn use. At 39:30 we never found out what that alarm was! They haven't tried to make it too sporty. Good. They've got their priorities right. I wouldn't trade comfort for handling on this type of car. Keep up the fantastic work Thomas and Team.
In the S90 T5 we have (petrol with 4 cilinders and 254hp) we are averaging about 7.5-8 liters/100 km in 16.000 km (75% highway, 15% main roads and 10% city). Fuel consuption in this engine depends a lot on how you drive it (usually we use Confort drive mode). 0-100 in 6.4s, by the way Nice video, as always ;)
I already have an XC60, but I enjoy seeing people's take on the car. Loved your review! I enjoy your conversational style and listened to the whole thing while I worked on the computer. You should consider doing audiobook narrator too, you've got the voice!
Tomas: you don't need to grab the wheel, when the little orange warning comes up. Just give it a little love tap and it goes away. You have to touch the wheel every 15 seconds.
That light interior is too prone to staining, for instance @ 7:45 notice the black scuff mark! It's a Volvo so I like it, just not that light colored interior.
49:12 according to my dealership the XC60 doesn’t come with the automatic cover like the V90. It goes up when you open the trunk but you ave to move it down again manually.
There You have it Guys, the Volvo XC60. What else? No other review needed in the premium SUV class :) That Denim Blue color, so elegant and sporty at the same time! Nice review Thomas, as always :)
It is a beautiful car. Mine in in the deep red. But i think this is the sharpest color. .. I wish Volvo would bring back the British Racing green. I also prefer the interior styling of the previous years with the floating console and the non-touchscreen. I like buttons and knobs.
Great video with plenty of commentary, as with past reviews. Would it be possible to add a segment to discuss and film the interior and exterior lighting of vehicles in future reviews, such as by taking it into a dark parking lot?
I was on the verge of buying a V90, but this new Volvo interior - although beautiful - is too much "old man's car" for my taste. Also, during the test drive, I found the touch screen a bit distracting compared to the rotary dials in other brands. Unfortunately, the new Audi A8 no longer has the rotary dial, so it seems Audi is taking the Volvo route when it comes to touch screens. Guess Mercedes and BMW will follow too at some point. Why not just put a place holder for an ipad and allow users to plug in their own tablet :-)
It makes me smile when a car of this size is described as a "compact SUV"!! I compared one of these to a VW Passat Estate but on a top spec version XC60 the price became way too much but I did like the quirkiness of the central console, and when my old boss told me what he paid for a set of tires, that was me out.
I forgot to add the salesman at our local Volvo dealer was very unhelpful considering I was looking at a £35k+ car, and the options on certain wheels were limited, for example I detest black wheels but that's all I was told I could have on the R-design oh and I could only choose blue, white or black/grey on the R-line models, with horrible black interiors. I would have to drop to the Inscription model to be able to get the lighter interiors and I didn't want 22" wheels or a white steering wheel. The salesman didn't do anything to try and accommodate close to the spec I wanted, so I walked.
You said couple times if you want more head room get without panoramic sunroof. I watch other 2018 xc60 RUclips videos and some say panoramic sunroof is standard equipment in all trim levels. So can you get a 2018 xc60 without panoramic sunroof ? Maybe different in USA or overseas?
Thomas thank you for the such an excellent review of the new XC60! I was already looking forward to my own test drive later this year when it comes to the dealership but your review has me anticipating even more! Great job!!
I am not an SUV customer, I don't get the point, having that said, an Alfa Stelvio, Jaguar F-Pace or an XC60 II could change my mind. I like the D5 with the power pulse solution that makes the engine punchy and removes the turbo lag - had to test it myself to believe it. I appreciate the two rubber lips/seals under the doors, the drive mode selector with that crystal pattern (dynamic is quite ok) quite well noise insulation (thicker foil specs in the windshield and reshaped door mirrors)... Nice touch materials, nice place to be and nice to look at on the road too. 426hp version from Polestar coming - wow! Wait, I don't really care lol Great review Thomas, thank you very much indeed.
Another great review, thanks. Ahah I liked it when you said "they get attacked by the seats" :) Seriously, german cars conception and engineering is great but these new gen volvos are just masterpieces of design in my opinion. exquisite !
Great, thorough review, Thomas. Excellent comment about pricing. It's called country pricing, and automakers will charge what the market will bear. Your €80,000 price would be $120,000 in Canada. But the Inscription trim of the 2018 XC60 here, with a pile of options (diesel not available), would sell for about $80,000 after tax, or about €53,000. One small quibble with your review. You mentioned shifting gears to slow the car when going down hills. I learned years ago at driving school to never use the engine as a brake. That's what brakes are for. Take care, and keep up the excellent work!
thanks garey! woah that would be some price! Hm well engine brake is useful when you have a long long braking procedure ahead so the normal brakes wont overheat. You do both, engine brake and normal brakes at same time
hi Thomas, excellent review.one small suggestion from my side is that it would be great if you also comment on how comfortable the middle seat is,because 5 seaters are sometimes really a 4 seater.if one has 4 adults and a baby, the car becomes useless.
Great review! What do you mean by "fake exhaust"? Are there not round exhaust pipes inside the rectangular tips? Or is it completely fake as in new Audi Q5 where the pipe ends befor the tips?
Excellent highly detailed review Thomas, the best I've seen on this vehicle! I find this SPA XC60 aesthetically the best in class inside and out. Thank you Volvo for adhering closely to the XC Coupe Concept design cues! I love the sharp edged prominent rear "Swedish Hips" and lovely tail light design. Of course who doesn't love the Thor's Hammers? I would probably opt for the Bursting Blue or Fusion Red color, but the Denim Blue appears to be a nice color for the more conservative personalities who still want some flavor (just say no to tarmac cammo). As for interior, Volvo wisely borrowed much from the well received '14 concept cars with the lower dash trim lip and vertices air "blades" as example. Not much to complain about here except Volvo should have added more interior color choices for the R-Design, a bit more rear cargo behind the second row, and more redundant controls for key systems like AC vent speed and stereo channel selection. Our current XC60 is the 3.0lL turbo 6, so we would find the "growling" 4 cylinder less than satisfactory, less than premium. How would you compare the Volvo T6 Drive-e to the Mercedes GLC 43 or SQ5 V6 turbo? How would you compare the R-Design suspension comfort to those? I would not trust the autonomous driving at higher speeds, though in traffic it is fine; we use the previous generation Active Cruise Control and like it. I'm just completely against letting the car manage the steering direction also at speed. I don't trust the system to manage so many variable roads conditions, and I also feel it disengages the driver's attention from driving safely/defensively in case of system failure/glitch. I am all for emergency collision avoidance steering and brakes however. Overall, very nice execution Volvo! This XC60 should remain the top seller in class in Europe, and steal market share from Lexus in the US. Ciao!
Havent driven the R-Design suspension on that new model, gotta check it out. The Volvo engines are surely the weak point, thats why its good that they go in the electric direction. Thanks for your customer feedback!
Brilliant video, probably the best road test I've ever seen on RUclips ! so well done Thomas, I felt I was actually driving the car, and know the ins and outs without even sitting in one !! I love this car, wish I could afford one, even the Momentum would be great, as you have cloth seats centres which I prefer especially in winter, my wife hates the leather in winter on my Volvo V70 so cold, and roasting in summer !! Thomas can you please add a night driving segment when testing a car ? as this is so important for me and many others who wear glasses, I have heard that the led headlights are superb !! a great asset in winter !
Nice review. How do you disable the engine auto start/stop? Is it an easy one button operation or do you have to go through various steps in the touch screen? I would really like to see the review on the T5 as we are not allowed to get the diesels in the USA. I don't care for the T6 as most of the reviews are T6 except this one.
Do you have any Autogfühl merchandise we can buy? I love your reviews, they are well made, calm & composed, full of detail and observations on feel and mood. I've used your comments on packages and equipement when I ordered my last car. I'd buy a Autogfühl t-shirt with "Animal skin" text on the front in a heartbeat!
Great Review! Nice car - very expensive. In your sum up you said go with small petrol, mid trim, rear cam, good sound system. From UK configurator: lowest trim level, only petrol available (T5), blue paint, rear cam, Bowers&Wilkins sound - £41,425! You've missed out on your heated steering wheel Thomas which you love; no BLIS, no HUD, no ACC, no sunroof, no memory seat, no 3-zone, no digital instruments, no Area View, no DCC, no nothing! If you go with a total-spec Tiguan SEL with every extra you get everything - nothing missing - all for about £40,355; and it's more compact, just as roomy, and no blank switches! XC60 is nice though! But a top-spec XC60 is nearly £53k.
+Kit Kat. Agree too, yes, if you are buying a New XC60, a New Q5, New X3, a GLC, a Macan, a Stelvio, an Evoque, or an F-Pace, AND you WANT all the toys, you have to quite rich. But the rich won't mind - more expensive the better probably! They won't want the New Tiguan, it has everything on it but it won't be expensive enough! The cheap-skates buy these expensive cars with no equipment on them, but they miss out!
You guys bring up an interesting dilemma. With the cost of options spiralling easily beyond £10,000 on so many cars these days, is it better to just go for the fully kitted out model or forgo all the bells and whistles and just go for a class higher/slightly more premium brand or model of car instead? Tough choice.
The top trim levels are expensive for sure, but in those specs they are up against premium German cars for the same or even more money. Of course it looks expensive compared to a fundamentally cheaper car like the VW Tiguan, but I don't think that's a fair comparison. Equipment levels always look poor if you compare a more expensive base spec car against a cheaper fully loaded car. The likes of Kia, Hyundai etc have for a long time played the "look how much kit you get as standard" game. At the other end of the spectrum, a base level Porsche Macan has Halogen headlights from the last century and virtually zero tech functions as standard. You pretty much have to add £10K+ just to get a very average tech spec. I'm not saying the XC60 is amazing value for money, but it's no more pricey than its direct competition with similar spec. The base specs are actually very nice too if you don't need all the tech toys. The quality feel and style is not so diluted as in a base spec BMW for example.
Compared to the 90 models, interior quality is not as high. While on the 90 series you get the same high-quality matte "leatherette" of the dashboard also on the top part of the door-panels, here you get another type (cheaper), not exactly matching gloss and color of the dashboard. Doorpanels without the B&W speakers also haven't got any chrome or wood inserts, beside door-handle... this is also a cheaper solution when compared to the 90 series models. What I have also find out, on the XC60s I've seen, is that in those without panoramic roof the headliner is very loose (not well fixed) and whenever you press one of the buttons on the headliner, all the headliner bends and waves! Don't know if this is an early-stage fault or is something normal... although I've found a similar behavior on other V90 and XC90 too. My current S60 doesn't do that!
Hello Thomas! Your reviews are spot on as usual! I am a little concerned regarding the frame rate of the digital HUD. I far I could see in your review, the frame rate in well below 30 fps. I could observe it when increasing and decreasing the throttle and on the HUD GPS rotation. Is this just related to the same effect that generates the flickering on camera or is it also observable naturally? Also, as more and more manufacturers include the digital HUD, can you include the quality of the HUD as a criteria in future reviews (brightness, contrast, frame rate, light reflectance)? Thank you very much!
I like the exterior design except I would make the vertical part of the tail lights black. The seats look gorgeous but other than that I 'm not so keen of that design, the vertical vents, the center console the steering wheel look uninspiring, the sport steering wheel is a bit better, it's a bit disappointing. Anyway it has many useful features available and it makes for practical good suv.
I love the exterior design but sadly although the materials used are high quality I thought when I tried this car at a local dealership that the transmission tunnel was too high and clunky, I hated the air vents lack of colour choice, oh and the price
Thank you for the review! You don't sound really excited with XC60 compared to German cars. Which would you choose without hesitation from the list above?
Well those premium mid-size SUVs are all very nice and have their strong points. For the XC60 you can get this beautiful bright city weave seating option for example. The Porsche Macan drives very sporty, then you got the less expensive ones which have more room like VW Tiguan or Skoda Kodiaq... and I also really like the new BMW X3. You can check out all those reviews here too!
Hello everyone, thanks again to our friend Thomas for a really complete review. A few ideas / questions / items for discussion : - these days people just get in the car and drive; could a car actually learn a driver's preference based on location ? or do we still have to choose between "sport, dynamic" and so forth ? - autonomous driving is still in the early days and will only make sense when the majority of cars offer that service; that begs a major question --- -- -- could we avoid traffic congestion (Germany, France, UK) thanks to autonomous cars that communicate with each other ?
thanks! the gps learns the route habits indeed, but so far not the driving modes, good idea traffic jams and car numbers in general could be seriously reduced by autonomous vehicles and sharing a ride, that's the projection for the future
Just gave you your 1,000th Like on this video - cool. :-) I love your content, thanks very much for all you do! Looking forward to watching this one; I agree that the new XC60 is the best-looking SUV out there at the moment.
That's a great review Thomas. I personally would put he XC90 against F-Pace & Audi Q7 Am I wrong ? I'm shocked it doesn't have the Ad-Blue ? Still a great Volvo .

I bought the 2018 XC90 All Wheel Drive. Love my new car. Most comfortable SUV I’ve ever driven with lots of power😊

Because of Thomas, I made a conscious decision to avoid animal skin products on my new car--thanks for changing my mind on animal skin "leather".
great to have you caring!
Pretty hard to make the hamburgers and steaks w/o using the hide as well.

Try to have a look at some leasing in a year or two for a second hand vehicle with mid level equipment.

Thanks for your detailed review. Can you please tell what was the real fuel consumption of the tested D4 model. Thank you again.
thanks! Check the engine part, all info there
Would like to see a full review on Mercedes S63 AMG 2017 model
cheers
Brilliant video, probably the best road test I've ever seen on RUclips ! so well done Thomas, I felt I was actually driving the car, and know the ins and outs without even sitting in one !! I love this car, wish I could afford one, even the Momentum would be great, as you have cloth seats centres which I prefer especially in winter, my wife hates the leather in winter on my Volvo V70 so cold, and roasting in summer !! Thomas can you please add a night driving segment when testing a car ? as this is so important for me and many others who wear glasses, I have heard that the led headlights are superb !! a great asset in winter !
love to hear that! Feel free to recommend us! Yes indeed the fabric seats are superior!
Often we usually get the cars during daytime...
colinf1951 Yes they are superb LED headlights at night.
Best looking car in this segment.
best car... take it as T8!!!
Not quite Thomas Blue, but good looking none the less! Can't wait to drive one. Thanks Thomas and crew!
cheers!
I'm loving the music!! Hip Hop comes to Autogefuhl!
in da house!
Wish we could get a full EV version !!
Nice review. How do you disable the engine auto start/stop? Is it an easy one button operation or do you have to go through various steps in the touch screen?
I would really like to see the review on the T5 as we are not allowed to get the diesels in the USA. I don't care for the T6 as most of the reviews are T6 except this one.
should be in the left screen tab
Thomas you're doing the best videos of cars!
thanks pal !
Super Thomas der beste reporter
+Eddy De Paepe 👍👍👍
Fantastic review as always. Very thorough and professional. Thank you.
+Tim Waters 👍👍
Do you have any Autogfühl merchandise we can buy? I love your reviews, they are well made, calm & composed, full of detail and observations on feel and mood.
I've used your comments on packages and equipement when I ordered my last car.
I'd buy a Autogfühl t-shirt with "Animal skin" text on the front in a heartbeat!
hehe we have to consider it yeah =)
Thanks for insightful review greetings from Cairo Egypt
Hi. Do you plan on doing a review of the new Maxus vans like eDeliver 3 eDeliver 9 and Deliver 9?
But a top-spec XC60 is nearly £53k.
totally agree!
+Chris G - well put.
Hi , just wanna check the airsuspension worth it?, I'm just looking for comfort only, no off road or towing. Thanks
Such an enjoyable review! You are the best!
thanks keep supporting us!
I like your video. detail and a lots of important point. thanks for sharing.
+Kevin Long stick to us :)
Ahh, some 5am entertainment, great review guys!
Enjoy! :D
I love the field you ended the video in! It makes me really not want to be in the city right now :(
=)
Hello Thomas! Your reviews are spot on as usual! I am a little concerned regarding the frame rate of the digital HUD. I far I could see in your review, the frame rate in well below 30 fps. I could observe it when increasing and decreasing the throttle and on the HUD GPS rotation. Is this just related to the same effect that generates the flickering on camera or is it also observable naturally? Also, as more and more manufacturers include the digital HUD, can you include the quality of the HUD as a criteria in future reviews (brightness, contrast, frame rate, light reflectance)? Thank you very much!
Didnt I comment that in the driving part? Our cameras are just faster
You are my favorite car reviwer .God work👍
thanks keep following us!
Nice review Thomas. I have decided on the Volvo XC60 Rdesign T5 best looking and not as common 😉
Thanks 🙏
When do we get the ELECTRIC Version :))
=)
Latest 2019 when the Polestar version is released which will be only fully EV
2019
I like the exterior design except I would make the vertical part of the tail lights black. The seats look gorgeous but other than that I 'm not so keen of that design, the vertical vents, the center console the steering wheel look uninspiring, the sport steering wheel is a bit better, it's a bit disappointing. Anyway it has many useful features available and it makes for practical good suv.
Awesome and very complete review, thanks a lot Autogefühl.
thanks keep recommending us!
I love the exterior design but sadly although the materials used are high quality I thought when I tried this car at a local dealership that the transmission tunnel was too high and clunky, I hated the air vents lack of colour choice, oh and the price
You made my morning good ! thank you autogefuhl!
thanks! Remember to activate notifications for our channel (little bell next to the subscribe button) that you dont miss new reviews!
Thomas ... simply the best
thanks keep joining us!
But if your buying one secondhand you might as well get one with lots of options
Nice new look for xc60 :)
You can check out all those reviews here too!
the video style have improved so much!!!!
love to hear that!
Great review guys! Could you consider reviewing a Toyota Auris in the near future?
Another excellent fully detailed video... Thanks!
+Dan Sutherland cheers!
I get that you love the white&bright colored interior but it seems like a pain to keep it clean & new.
Had the same feeling when I first test drove the xc90 II and the centre console had some wonky shapes - what a nightmare to clean :)
Is this the Denim Blue? I love your reviews and look forward to each of them! Also love that you encourage cruelty free seat covering options!!
ye I did mention that :)
Thanks so much, great to have your support on that !!
Excellent review once again!
in your service !
Hello everyone, thanks again to our friend Thomas for a really complete review.
A few ideas / questions / items for discussion :
- these days people just get in the car and drive; could a car actually learn a driver's preference based on location ? or do we still have to choose between "sport, dynamic" and so forth ?
- autonomous driving is still in the early days and will only make sense when the majority of cars offer that service; that begs a major question ---
-- -- could we avoid traffic congestion (Germany, France, UK) thanks to autonomous cars that communicate with each other ?
thanks!
the gps learns the route habits indeed, but so far not the driving modes, good idea
traffic jams and car numbers in general could be seriously reduced by autonomous vehicles and sharing a ride, that's the projection for the future
What do you think is the best compact SUV right now? does the RR Velar fit in to that category?
Just gave you your 1,000th Like on this video - cool. :-) I love your content, thanks very much for all you do! Looking forward to watching this one; I agree that the new XC60 is the best-looking SUV out there at the moment.
nice =)
A really very nice car, and will undoubtedly be a future consideration. Also a beautiful city, where are you please?
That's a great review Thomas. I personally would put he XC90 against F-Pace & Audi Q7 Am I wrong ? I'm shocked it doesn't have the Ad-Blue ? Still a great Volvo .
Q7 and XC90 are same size yeah, XC60 is vs Q5, F-PACE is still leaning towards those compacts too
