I'm beginning to wonder if there is some kind of "black hole" between the Lincoln radar and Chicago radar. Back before the 39 was there, I hit a storm that came out of nowhere. I was going south toward Bloomington on 51, with wife and kid in the car. I was the only car that didn't simply stop on the road. It was like driving through a car wash! I remember we lost a window on the back passenger door. No one was hurt, thankfully. Nice video.
Thanks Alex, sometimes im in the right place at the right time. For sure on this chase. I was coming home with some storms that had developed in Iowa, by way of I- 80, and decided to pull over and wait on them as they were catching up.
it would have been something. Its hard to see it on this video but all those little scuddy fingers were rotating at one time or another, other than the funnel.
I wonder if Illinois gets the most tornados like down in Springfeild southern illinois and central illinois. I live in Mchenry county illinois in northern illinois.
nope, its Wenona. I came from up by Oglesby as I crossed over from Iowa on i-80, then drove south along the approaching line. i chase up that way a lot. Was at the dead end of county rd 3000 e just west of i-39 at wenona.
yep. I followed it from Iowa City and only because it had a really good shelf. As I got to I-80 and I-39 in Illinois, I noticed it getting a little better defined to my sw, so just cruised south until it got to me. I'm not sure what happened there in Wenona, but it started rotating like crazy to my north as it kind of dove ese. It got pretty tight fr about 3 seconds or so, to where I thought it may have touched down briefly, but trees were I the way and I was on the wrong side of the interstate, to be able to catch it.
Kevin Radley It may have touched down briefly. Just without the condensation funnel. Yep! I'm sure that's what set off the sirens. Great video! Looks and sounded like a typical HP Supercell. I'm not fond of those. Still, some great footage!!
thanks, yea, it was probably really brief if it did..Thats the 1st time I have been standing at a spot and had the sirens go off before I saw any torn warn on radar. It was kind of confusing.lol
of course it's tornado warned and severe! the sirens are going, and it looks like a tornadic storm forming...

Thanks and i wonder about that too.
glad no one was hurt.
Im watching this tornado video, you sure get some great video.

Wow if that were to come down and form one massive tornado, it would be a defined wedge.

superb footage and details. Very fine. Thank you.
thank you

Sangamon co gets a lot..
I really wonder why there was no warning on this storm. Ottawa and surrounding areas had quite significant straight line wind damage.
Not sure. These systems always produce brief spin ups and maybe hard to detect on radar?
Even just a severe warning. Straight line winds were pretty intense with this thing.
GardeningUpAStorm The one that i was on was severe untill it got to Wenona.lol They didnt extend it.
Kevin Radley nice video dude. Some great motion
yea, totally unexpected.
I don't think this was Wenona. Those sirens sound like Oglesby's.

Lol Dewitt co too.
Boy, that is one snotty storm!
Good catch good luck this year.
Gust front tornadoes?
It's been a dream of mine to be a storm chaser
pursue it..just be careful..get a good radar ap..radarscope or pykl3 radars are great.
It seemed like outflow in the beginning of your video. Was that the case? Did the storm have a tough time reorganizing?

I was balancing acrossed a stick shift so couldn't really concentrate on the shots.
If you look far left at 1:38, I think that was what spawned the sirens to sound.
