I need to start referring my students to this clip lol. I find it's a problem with every generation, but the most recent cohort of people going into the professions stand out to me for having so much less chill. Everything is calculated, it's like they all imagine they're stuck in the most toxic old school MMO, where making one suboptimal choice banishes them to off-meta hell forever. So much of what students ask me is just panicky, omgomgomg I NEED to play this JUST RIGHT, RIGHT NOW. So few people feel safe pursuing genuine interest in anything or anyone, just doing things for the love of doing them. I'm not blaming the kids, by the way. Us older folk made them that way, with the way institutions are, and then with how middle aged idiots lost their goddamn minds during the pandemic. But honestly more young people today need to hear the midboss tell them, "dude just be... actual... friends."
This really helps me understand vtubers more as I grow. Sometimes when I reach out it feels like they ignore for arrogant reasons. But years later I learned to be patient and more understanding.
I find reaching out and getting new friends online so hard compared to irl. I had way too many friends irl but since I started vtubing it's like uhhhhh, where do I even go lol
Nah, i got advice for others just starting out. just go find small streamers in the same number bracket as you (if you have under 50 followers on twitch, look for others under 50-100 followers) and look for one you like watching. be active in their chat as a member, not a fellow streamer. do fan-works for them and be part of their community if you can. like geega said, it's important to do. and eventually they'll start inviting you to stuff!
@@Sora_SlimeCat Mate what part of socially anxious do you not understand? lol You may know how to grow or reach out but social anxiety makes it to where you just can't. There are plenty of reasons why someone would develop social anxiety but some are unfortunate enough to be born with it being genetic social anxiety It's easy to say do XY&Z but it's a entirely different thing to implement it especially if the person you are trying to reach out to is someone you like. A person with social anxiety is a prisoner of their own mind and the only way they could break out which would be the hardest thing they could ever do is to just stop caring about what others think of them and to just stop fearing the rejection of society as a whole. I know what it's like to be rejected by a person you look up you as in thrown out of their community because you did not fit in no matter how hard you tried and trust me it fucking hurts. The harder you try the more people will find you creepy so you have to navigate this stupid paradox of trying but at the same time not try just to get people to accept you to finally start making friends that are not your sisters boyfriends You get burned so much and just say "screw it all" as it is not worth the mental trauma it costs just because you had the audacity to be born different. And the audacity to not being able to be normal, to read social ques, and to just be a fucking freak in general to the point you might as well not consider yourself Human Before you ask i write all my traumas twenty fuckign six years worth of it in song form and then i forget about it so the energy leaves my body, and i would suggest not reading that book unless you want depression. Sure what i wrote in that book would make for great metal songs but it's nor worth remembering the feelings i was going through during those times, Before you ask it was not game ending levels of bad but the Misanthropy was uncomprehensable levels as even normal people could feel it just emanating off of me not just those scam artists that call themselves empaths I am a being of pure negative energy, that can not be undone even if i were to live a fulfilled live from this point onward
Its kinda wierd that I believe her and sorta dont believe her at the same time? Like with the whole friends thing. Yeah Vtubers only seem comfortable with their friends but most of their 'friends' seem to be people they've had maybe 4 discord conversations with ever. Vtubers seem to make friends with other Vtubers so easily that fake friends are a rampant community issue
understandable, keep in mind with everything she says this is all from her personal experience and the landscape's changed a lot in the past 4 years since she started around the beginning of the vtubing boom when the community was much smaller.
Ponder this - a person that has never reached out, never started the conversation, unless it was transactional related to work. Even there, in the office/group setting, I got to know everybody but I was introduced and partnered with more senior individuals to start the job. Things were going great until they weren't. Good news, though, I am and have been very successfully cosplaying as a hikikomori. I have got to stop necro'ing youtube comments.
I like Geega's advice most of the time but I HARD disagree with focusing on friends for streaming networking. It is VERY important to have social circle and a professional circle and keep most of those separate to a degree. There are lots and lots of issues in mingleing friends with business. It is VERY important to have friends but it is EQUALLY important to have purely professional relationships.
It is a blurry line with vtubers/streamers because collabs are a big success multiplier, and if you enjoy someone's company, chances are you'll become friends perhaps even without actively pursuing it.
I mean, if the professional friendship does collabs that do well, and keep doing collabs, wouldnt that mean they eventually becime friends? With vtubing specifically its a bit hard to tell/differenciate between friends and business relationships bc of the proximity...
IF the process of doing business is unfriendly, than you probably shouldn’t be doing business with them in the first place. Capitalism needs to be MORE pro social to survive in the long run. Creating an internally competitive environment often leads to workplace abuse, and workplace abuse leads to death of a business, and even death to the economy. Stop making the same mistake our ancestors have made when they got greedy and wanted more for themselves at the expense of others, that attitude historically is what led to slavery, prevented technological expansion, stagnation, hierarchy and war.
@@Kusagrass Capitalism already does the """pro social""" thing by pretending to be a family and all that bullshit just so that they can guilt trip their employees into working overtime for the absolute bare minimum. The irony in telling someone to get educated while knowing jack squat
I like how the chat just turns into Joel
So, Geega was adopted by an extrovert - got it
Drinking game: Every time Geega says "ya know" take a shot.
I started to count them when I was around one third into the video. I counted twelve. So I say: play at your own risk, ya know.
Do not play this drinking game. You will die.
Drinking game? No. Alcohol poisoning speed run.
You know, we'd be deceased
I may be an alcoholic, but I WILL die if I do that.
GEEGA, just down to earth and open, like a breath of fresh air.
You know what GEEGA said in this 8 minute video: just be normal

Being somewhat normal. My one weakness. How did they know
Super valuable insight! This applies to any social circle

Watching this made me realize this is how i made my friends in the last year. I met someone who then introduced me to someone else and repeat.
Just be yourself - people who are naturally friendly and social

Meaningful connections are really the main way to grow.. Just be genuine and make friends
That’s the ideas 🤘🏾🖤
I could listen to GEEGA all day
of course its father. geega and him are close. auntie geega. he such a good guy
I so know the feeling of fear and not reaching out when I should. Getting better at it.😅

Same. But Banter mainly for me. I will not survive as I am an incompatible friend
Pretty much but but ranting about what you like and dislike is a fun way to fake extrovertness and for people to know who you are very quickly
This is some great advice
