A Gothic Lair in Malaysia! - Gothic Homemaking Presents

- Опубликовано: 11 сен 2024
- For three years now, as the host of Gothic Homemaking, people have been asking me if I'd ever go and visit other people's gothic abodes. I never thought the day would come, but it finally has! Join me as I visit a young lady in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (of all places!) who has decorated her apartment in a wonderfully and tastefully macabre way.
Who's lair should I visit next??? Let me know in the comments!

I adore that black and white aesthetic. Everything is very slick, very clean. Almost minimalistic but very detail 🖤 love it!
All the black items stand out so well against a white background.
You should do a remodel of someone else's home. Maybe someone who just moved and needs to take what they have, add a few additional touches and create a new lair.
lornaduwn my God if I was a rich woman I’d be first in line for this!
"what do you mean help?We are helping. We're helping hands."
I love what she was able to conjure up for her lair, and the way she incorporated the white walls into her aesthetic. Her place gives me a bit of a Victorian asylum/Alice Madness returns-vibe, especially with all the rabbits, amazing! Also yay, Eddie Izzard on her computer-screen ^^
Queenie Black (who I know personally) has a spectacular house in Los Angeles and has videos of it on her RUclips channel. She definitely has a very unique approach to gothic decorating!
I've been watching her channel a bit recently and her home is great! So much funny and gorgeous stuff everywhere. Gothic maximalism! So creative!
please do a tour w Queenie Black! shes such a character
Yes! Queenie!
I love Queenie! She's RUclips's Goth Mom.
That's funny! I just suggested this right before I saw your post. Black Manor is an AMAZING place! Their space theme kitchen is my favorite. Such talented artists and genuinely nice people the both of them!
its really cool to see the different expressions of gothic aesthetics, especially as someone who isn't goth
Emily K is it because of the rabbits?
@@irmuusanaa4227 Spooky fairies definitely give it a Wonderland/Labyrinth theme
I love the fact she did not categorize her style as ''goth'', although this is suppose to be ''goth'' content but I always like eclectic ways to breathe and live ''dark'' and ''alternative'' lifestyle :)
I deeply love rabbits...Black rabbits are actually a death omen. Also big Watership Down vibes. This is honestly the almost exact chic, modern, goth house of my dreams.
To the young lady, your apartment is so amazing, the perfect balance of light and dark, and still feminine! Thank you, and you Aurelio, for sharing!
VOLTAIRE !! I'm a 40 minute drive from Nashville's Airport. My husband and I, and our baby bat, are from NY, but we've been transplanted here! We own our own house and It's definitely up for a tour! It's always a work in progress but next time you're in Nashville, or Long Island, we're happy to host you! Gothic guest bedroom and all! @the lair of voltaire
Love seeing Eddie Izzard's Dressed to Kill special on the computer monitor!
Same here! One of my favorite specials
I’m from Malaysia 🇲🇾 and I really love the gothic subculture for many years now 🖤 Wearing gothic shirt and accessories is like my everyday style now~ xDD There’s also a gothic store here called “I-socks” located at Berjaya Time Square mall.
My mom wouldnt even allow me to buy a black frame... but i visited I- socks when i visited my aunts😄
When I saw the hands, I immediately thought of that one scene from "Labyrinth"
2:26 the mask in question are from (my personal favourite video game) dead by daylight.
The creepy fellow wearing said mask is called the trapper. He traps his pray in bear traps and hunts them down with a big cleaver.
What a gorgeous place! I love her black bunny lamp; thank you for touring her place. I am so inspired for when I finally get to decorate a place of my own. 🖤🐰🖤
Hello again!
She has also furnished her apartment very nicely and stylishly. I think it's very gothic. Like it a lot. 👍🏼💀
I love her house! That staircase is amazing! And love her use of faux taxidermy!
Your videos give me such inspiration for incorporating more macabre/scientific elements into my decor -- well, they were always there, but now I feel freer to express them, thanks to you!
I love all your content soooooo much, the video hasn't even loaded yet, nonetheless...

☺☠💜🖤
Sending love from NY
I like before the video starts too! Wanna make sure he gets his due right off the bat!
Burbank, CA! My home’s spookiness is much too subdued to warrant a feature, but I love your segment, and have recently turned my mother onto your channel (she’s the real inspiration for how I got into the goth scene back in the early 90’s - she’s from the 60’s NY art scene) and she totally identifies with you!! We both keep elements of darkness around us aesthetically all year long because it makes us, well, happy! Hopefully I’ll be able to catch one of your LA shows, it’s hard to get out sometimes w/ 2 kiddos 🙃
The hands are so great. I have beige walls not because I cant repaint but because I'm lazy. My house is still spooky!
I'm amused by the Eddie Izzard they had paused in the background, her furniture is gorgeous too!
Such a beautiful space, I adore the white walls! I didn't think that could work but it really does! 🖤
I'd love to see you visit Queenie Black🖤
The hands in the stairwell reminds me of the helping hands from David Bowies Labyrinth .
I love that you brought up Cocteau! I gotta subscribe for that. Rabbits are such a great representation of something than can be both macabre and cute. I mean, think of the movie US by Jordan Peele: it features white rabbits as twisted imagery, mirroring the caged lives of the Tethered. Her home aesthetic is amazing. I want to know where she got her furniture
You are always welcome to stop by and see us next time you are in Chicago!
Yaaas that should be a new show you have. Gothic Homemaking: Exploration Edition or something. I apologize, I am terrible with names. But, I would love to see that.
It's so hilarious to hear Voltaire describe The Trapper's mask as 'butt munching' LOL
@@rinne4823 oh you're so right, that didn't even cross my mind
Queenie Black and Avelina DeMoray have impressive homes. I remember Dre Ronayne and Davey Suicide had a lovely aesthetic in their apartments years ago. I'd like to see if Angela Benedict is interested. The Goblin Queen Allison Eckfeldt has a nice witchy aesthetic. Babydoll Peach has a cute apartment with her husband. The Kilted Goth has neat stuff. I know of other RUclipsrs with goth accents but either not enough for a full house or it's dedicated to one room (I love Haunted Bat, Aisling O'Neil, and Creepy Corners).
Nobody in this country ever heard of your work? I've been listening to you since I was eight (I'm 20 now) and I still regularly do! I love your music. I used to listen to 'Goodnight Demonslayer' everynight before going to bed as a little girl, in my head you were like my cool goth second Dad. Much love from Malaysia, Voltaire. All the best on your endeavours.
honestly I love putting colours into gothic decorating. it makes it more bohemian and art deco-like and makes the place more cozy. So if your like me and love the fall season and the atmosphere it gives off, try adding those same colours into your living areas.
Hey don’t know if this is something your already thinking of. But you should really do more house interviews. Like maybe get some famous youtubers, or fans that write in, if you happen to be in their neck of the woods, friends of yours.
I just really liked this episode, definitely want some more.
NGREEEEEEE!!!!! If I knew you were at my country, I would've sprint all the way to KL just to meet you...
Next time you’re in pensacola Florida I’ll love to show you my lair..especially the haunted library end table I made that you reposted a year ago on Instagram from your episode of Gothic home making🖤🖤🖤
I absolutely love this - I was afraid that once your gorgeous apartment was finished there might be no more Gothic Homemaking! I hope lots of people reach out to share their homes with you/us - The Rabbit Hole is absolutely stunning and the owner seems like a lovely lady 🖤
I am in LOVE with her shoe collection and her way of making black and white look amazing
Love her "Helping hands on the stairs!" You can come see mine, if you are back in Indiana again. It's still a work in progress.
Smart girl! Rabbits are very lucky. She's surrounded by lovely gothic style luck! I love that the white rabbit is named Willow. Watership Down is one of my favorite books. Also, Willow is a very magical name 🌜🖤🔮 She is absolutely lovely and her aesthetic is gorgeous. Thank you so much for allowing us a glimpse into her world.
I LOVE the hands on the wall!!! My apartment building is historic so I am not allowed to put any sort of hole in the wall which has made decorating a challenge. However, something like the hands would be feasible without any sort of damaging mount so I am very inspired! My home is a museum of diy Gothic, Asian eccelectia, and fashion history. If you are ever around Greensboro, NC, you are most welcome.
Wow I love her clean minimalist style!
The hands make me think of the scene in labyrinth where the girl falls into a pit of hands.
Up or down?
What an absolutely beautiful home! I really love the use of black and white, simply yet so effective! Plus everyone loves a bunny 🐇🖤
Itd be amazing if you could have toured Its Black Friday's lair before she left Germany. Maybe once she gets resettled you could visit her new one.
I solved the problem with not being able to paint the walls black in a rental by... not telling the landlord! :-) It's only in my bedroom, though!
I love seeing this. I have been recently binge watching all your Gothic Homemaking videos, I love the energy and how informative it is.
I love the trapper mask on the chair!
Cool! Love the hands so much... And Malaysia is full of interesting stuff if you know where to look-I don’t know how you can say a place with shrunken heads isn’t goth 😜
Anyways, you should come see our cyber-goth manor in NYC when the pandemic is over. 🧞♀️ Endless taxidermy art blended with robots and automation.
Hey Voltaire. You should come to PR. There was a gothic scene years ago, but who knows.....you might find someone who might be and his or her house too.
proud to malaysian goth too 🖤
Amazing! Beautiful lair. Show us more! ❤️
It was all so fancy! Already having many ideas on how to turn my lair upside down.
That butt-munching mask is a very cool looking rendition of the Trapper's mask from Dead by Daylight! :D I wonder if that's who she or her boyfriend mains.
Love the contrast of the modern white with the gothic black. 🖤
Yes please! I have a, well what I like to call, a "swamp witch, fantasy laire".. Filled with taxidermy, antique items, and a gothic flair. I live in southern Virginia, and would love to give you a tour of my home!
Owls are my rabbits, I collect them obsessively. I have about 50 of them in a corner of my flat. I'm not goth so I collect very colorful birds too.
With Sid Haig's passing I've been feeling down all day so this makes it a little better, thanks Voltaire. Also is it possible for clowns to be gothic?
Yes. Yes it is.
I found out he passed reading your comment. He was and always will be of legendary status!
@@TheLairofVoltaire The news broke early this morning saying he passed away a couple days ago.
I can see clowns being goth, especially for the creepy cute pastel goths
I love where this is going!!!! I can’t wait for new episodes 💕
We are moving into a new home and planning to goth it up to the max! Purple and black livingroom, taxidermy, skulls, black velvet! The whole nine yards. If only it were finished I would invite you on over.
Perhaps soon!
That apartment is beautiful but that stairwell gives me anxiety! What a lovely aesthetic though. I *love* the rabbit theme!
WOW IT'S A GOOD IDEA FOR MY NEW HOUSE SOMEDAY.
This is so cool! And today, I just got black plates and glasses for my lair :3 oh! I got some black cloth napkins as well :)
Great as always!!
Gorgeous apartment! I love the boot storage/display idea!
The staircase was a look out of Labyrinth. I love the black/white look. I had an apartment that had greenish walls and it was kinda hard to do a Gothic look with(they were not the good kind of green for goth)
This was so lovely. I have an all black Lionhead bunny, his name is MurderStar.
OMG I want that stairwell! I looooove hands.
Needless to say i love this dude
You should go visit Queenie and Matthew Black. Their home is amazing!
its beautiful ! but the hands ! please do more lairs !
Really great space. Love the Goth bunny artwork.
Still diggin' the Martin beard
Cool series, man! Can't wait to see more.
This is kinda good to know im not the only goth in malaysia
Spot on! Yes Voltaire, more gothic lairs please!
As a person who goes by GothiccRabbit online, I absolutely love this! As a Capricorn and lover of Baphomet, I personally wanted my lair filled with Goat themed things but I may take some inspiration from this! :)
I find this funny because I am From Malaysia and me and my brother are big fans of your music
That Trapper mask tho.... >.>
Oh, so I'm not crazy! I was like 'Wait is that the trapper?'
I'm not the only person that noticed!
I was thinking more Labyrinth, but less creepy. ✋🏻🤚🏻🖐🏻
Me too!
😸👍🏻
Hello malaysian goth here. We do exists but there’s no goth community around here sadly :( but i have quite many goth friends ^_^
Finally have a house, hope it will be a beautiful gothic lair at some point
Beautiful! Anyone else here having The Birthday Massacre-vibes?👯♀️~
You'll be in the Chicago area this weekend. Please feel welcome to visit my home. People generally say that I live in museum. :)
What a sweet hole! Love the black and white. I hope she's read Watership Down.
It's a great idea to visit peoples' private Gothic lairs! It's very inspirational!!! I agree with her, I think rabbits can fit the theme perfectly! It's all about finding the right juxtaposition between what's normally considered "cute" and the macabre! Besides, according to Monty Python, rabbits are vicious killers!!! ;-D
I couldn't do the hands in stairway. In the middle of the night if I was stumbling down to get a cup of water I would knock it down and /or think someone was grabbing me in the dark.
If you are ever in the South in the next year or so I will be done with my Lair. I'd be happy to show it to you.
This was a really cool feature, Voltaire!
Wow. That's so cool that it's in Malaysia !
nice new concept i dig it
My space is the rabbit hole because i love Alice in wonderland. Though it does have quite the gothic feel to it due to my love of black and red.
This is a great Idea!!! looking forward to this!!
May I remind of the Black Rabbit of Inlé from Watership Down? The rabbit grim reaper?
I would have thought the stairs reminded you of The Labyrinth
I like to think that's my signature color scheme.
I lovely her aptartment. She look a gothic but you say no she is not gothic? Beautiful!!!! 👍😀😘🤟🏽🖤💜📱
I have a true challenge with my walls in my apartment complex. They have been painted a *warm* beige color. And I'm not allowed to paint over it! Woe is me!
Have you seen the wall tapestries at society6? The big ones are quite large and can cover a lot of wall space. There is a link to my store in the video description and from there you can check out other stores. It's a possible solution.
@@TheLairofVoltaire That's a great idea! I love the idea of tapestries in bedrooms. I think it adds a "comfy" feeling to a room.
In my living room, I'm trying the "more is more" design tactic. I've got a "wall of weird" full of odd things I've collected (like frog skulls and spooky art). I'll drown out the beige.. in time! Haha!
I had a lot of warmish toned beige in my last rented house, and I just used a lot of decor that looked Victorian and sepia-toned...almost steampunk, but lots of gloss black. Lots of those prints on yellowed book pages and burgundy velvet. Hope that helps🖤
4:38 suddenly reminded of that one scene in Labyrinth
😍🥰Such a beautiful elegant space
A rather unique apartment. Looking at the comments you may wish to consider going to visit the lairs of other Goth RUclipsrs.
Lovely idea
xToxictearsx, black friday are the lairs I'd visit if I could XP
