In Cyberpunk 2077 Lore, Adam Smasher is the man to beat. I do think that given alternate circumstances, David could have defeated Adam Smasher

just want to add my opinion I think that David wouldn't stand a chance due to lack of experience and with his antigrav (his strongest ability) couldn't even scratch him and in the end, with little to no effort Adam Sandler dismantled him. Also, I love your videos keep it up!
hey thanks for the comment. I agree to some extent, the gonk did go through an entire Militech Division and an Arasaka convoy. I guess what I am trying to say is it would be cool to get them 1v1 with 100% hp hahaha.

He wasn’t at 100% when he fought smasher tho . it’s like if goku fought Frieza on namek before healing his body after fighting the ginyu force . He would have been slaughtered . Although I still believe smasher would come out victorious ima have to agree with the uploader of this short that David would have atleast given him a run for his money had circumstances been different .

If he was a bit more experienced with the suit I’d say he’d be able to go 1 on 1 with smasher but regular rills arm projectile launcher David wouldn’t even dent smasher, he’s just too op😫

People don’t pay attention to the show.
David actually was special.
David came back from cyber psychosis when Lucy kissed him despite doc saying that’s impossible.
He was able to use the skeleton without any suppressants after taking on 2 mega corps and maxtac.
Guy was barely 18, had a shady doc, used parts that didn’t mesh with him like Maines arm. All in a matter of months.
V has Johnny, a proper doc and the story takes place over a few weeks for a reason.
Adam is almost 100 years old and has everything custom made for him, been in countless wars and likely fought strong individuals.
This was the first opponent that could even fight back against David the gap in experience was insane.
Even smasher recognised David’s potential when he wasn’t even fighting back, just trying to get Lucy to safety.
Swap V/Adam and David’s situation and he stomps.

The only thing I have against your argument is that David never went full psycho. He was right on the edge, and before he was about to snap and become a cyber psycho Lucy brought him back
The biggest thing when it comes to franchises that involve movies shows and also games is that game protags will always have something that makes them OP. examples being V and Starkiller (from starwars). Their has to be something storyline wise that makes those characters survive their situations. Just wanted fo build off what you said is all

Smasher has leveled armies, not just a convoy.
Lore accurate Smasher is nearly unkillable.
The beginning of their fight really sets the bar right away. the entire time Smasher is toying with him. His tech is just better, period.
However if the whole crew was actually able to join the fight then it's possible we at least would see Smasher sweat. Maybe.
Another point that proves Smasher's whole other level is Lucy tried hacking him and he zapped her. Lucy.
Edgerunners don't come close to touching his level. Because when you're the product of the richest organization you benefit from that lmao
The point of Smasher is to be that like archetype that sums up the theme of the setting.

I love Rebecca and the crew, but the moment they started tangling with Smasher the end is pretty obvious. As the show itself is incredibly metaphoric, they really did do an amazing job of capturing the essence of the setting.
Him even getting the skeleton was literally to put it through a field test.

Lore accurate smasher is armored to 40sp, his strongest weapon is gatling shotgun which does 5d6+3 and is not even ap.
Militech commando, standard power armor used by militech troopers from 60 years in past clocks 60sp and is 100% immune to anything that smasher carries. On the other end, yer old light fifty does 6d10 damage, can be converted into ete 9d10 and given ap ammo ontop, single shot from such rifle which would cost less than single davids arm can put smasher down with single shot.
Hell at least during climax of 4th corporate war arasaka given him daioni, power armor designed to be piloted by full borg. It is the strongest suit of non custom power armor but its still power armor with plenty of infantry weapons designed to deal with those.
Arasaka also stopped using them...because...
Not like anyone else uses full borgs or power armor in 2077.
Also Smasher keeps his internal organs protected by thick layers of armour including his skull

My boy was 18 with only a year in the Edgerunner game telling “whatever choom” to Adam Smasher. He never was fighting Adam; he was too busy trying to get Lucy safe. The only time he used his antigravity was to stall while Falco drove off with Lucy. I’m not saving David necessarily wins; again, he only has a year and some months in the game compared to Adam. But he even got to stare Adam down, insult him to his face, and get his girl safe while getting cheaply shot in the torso makes David a legend in my book. No one’s doing that against Smasher, and the only two, as far as we know, are V and Blackhand (they say it was a draw 🤷🏿♂️). Oh, let’s also add he destroyed three military battalions sent after his crew at ONLY 18

Lucy got out alive and in David's eyes, that means he won.
I think he would have done better in the fight if he hadn't had to carve a warpath through the city just before it, he had already fought hundreds of militech and arasaka agents, tanks, other weapons of war, and Maxtac. He was probably incredibly worn down by the time they got to city center not even mentioning the loss of the immunoblockers.

They were literally putting David in a glass cannon just to test the tech and have him not too op where Smasher could have still put him down. Notice how there isn't anything covering David? just open pilot seat with no defense.
Even with full suppressors and full focus I still think Adam had the edge and would still win most of the time. He’s got a ton of experience and elite tech.
Wouldn't be surprised if in the next game we see david uploaded into a full conversion body, Johnny shows that even post mortem soul killer can be used. Only issue is a bit of memory issues, which is shown with Johnny placing himself in blackhands situation at arasaka tower.

Adam Smasher has well over 50 years of experience, fought against the strongest people in night city, (Morgan Blackhand, Johnny Silverhand, etc), fought in like 3 wars, and has access to the same cybernetics and equipment David has, save for the cyberskeleton (which is literally just a slightly more advanced version of his own suit) David stands no chance in hell against Smasher, V however, was practically preparing for his fight with Adam throughout the whole game.
This is where it gets crazy, as everything Smasher has was leagues ahead of David.
David would have needed more cyberware to actually do something to Smasher. The whole gravity thing was the frames ordeal, and well... It didnt do a thing.
Id say it was less advanced than Smasher, as he took the best of the best and mixed and matched it to be the best.
The problem with V is that it just disregards the entire canon with Smasher. If V could get a linear frame of their own sure but instead they get a mix of parts in similarity to Adam buuuut... Its all the 'rudimentary' stuff technically speaking.

Do you know how many implants V has ? In the game, he could have up to 22 implants with very little drawback. And he also has access to several one of a kind technologies just like David's Cyber Skeleton. Which means V LITERALLY possess Double the amount of combat power David had without going cyber psychosis. He is basically a one man army by literal mean.

I’m all about the lore but gameplay probably didn’t do V V.S Smasher justice but if we consider 100%ing the game canon then V basically appeared outta no where with Johnny ran through the entirety of night city took out cyberphycos non lethality mind you then ran hansens fade in dog town before he fought smasher and they did that all in the matter of a few weeks
Johnny is not particularly strong, Johnny is just a rocker boy. Most of his story is flaws in his memory or outright lies. He was at arasaka tower working under Militech and Morgan, and there he was immediately killed by Adam. He never set off the nuke, he didn’t make the plan, hell that guy he beat the piss out of? That dude was at the tower when he died, Johnny died saving him. Things Johnny says and thinks are largely his ego talking, Arasaka never gave a damn about him, they just wanted Alt
Man, once Smasher took out those anti-grav systems, it was over. The suit was too heavy to even support itself. Either way, once those were gone, David was screwed. He probably had a better chance without the suit, at least against Smasher 1-on-1. Not saying he'd win, he just likely wouldn't have been dismantled so easily.

Can't blame you with how it's depicted in the show but this is a misconception of Cyberpsychosis. A good example of how it would be less an effect during the fight would be Adam himself. The dude practically lives in that state 24/7 and manages to keep himself calm. Now there is a more in depth discussion on the effects of it one could have but for a TLDR basically if David went full Psycho he would have probably had an easier time as it doesn't break awareness of reality but changes personality. The suppressants are most likely stopping his body from shutting down from the heavy chrome added on so soon.

Smasher is just.. too much of a well written savage. I don’t even agree with how they did the in cyberpunk 2077 lol. The only way I’ll accept Smasher’s death is if he disappears. He’s just too prominent of an entity in the CP lore. Almost like a god .
Adam very much treats everyone like small children, in the game he toys with both V, jackie and the araskas. He knows V and jackie are there but doesnt tell his bosses.
While fighting david, hes always toying with him and his crew, its very clear, hes only using the sandevistan when he needs to keep up with david, meanwhile taunting him by saying how rudiemntery it is. Hes walking everywhere and we know this man can run. When falco starts driviing away he doesnt arm his missiles, but his arm cannon. Its why he falls down when david trys crushing him with antigravity, he wasnt giving his all and was caught off guard trying to show off. He starts putting more work into the fight after that, his voice goes from smug and a bit bored to anger.
Well... he did call the sandevistan a "rudimentary implant"... and that that was what "made David special"... David's ability to use a sandevistan was what made him stand out. But to Smasher it was just another implant to have. David never stood a chance, there are no happy endings in Night City

To be fair, Adam Smasher is the rocks fall for the RPG from what I can tell. David was doomed from the start as he was on a string for his sanity, trying to protect Lucy while Adam was smashing everyone individually.
Even if we take V soloing the tower, they know it's a suicide run so they got nothing but going out with a bang. Now whether V could do better in David's situation, who knows. But poor David was dealt a dead man's hand and he bluffed till the end with no regrets.

The one and Only thing that separated V from everyone else. Was they were prepared and anticipating Adom Smasher being at Akasaka tower. As well as being a Solo nearly on the level of Morgan Blackand.

If David had more contact with Rogue, had read the solos guide by Morgan Blackhand, and had a rocker boy in his head. All evidence that Adom is not invincible.

I think there is a very real probability that if david could escape.
They removed the skeleton, and down graded some of his gear.
He could make a full recovery with little side effects of his psycosis.
If anything i think if he did, he would gain even greater immunity to it.

I'm not confident David could beat Adam Smasher, but at least he would give him a good fight, similar to what happened with Morgan Blackhand.
Something I don't think people take into account is the magnetic field projectors the Cyberskeleton had. David had only been using it to pull guns out of people's hands but with Adam being 98% machine it would likely work very effectively on him, and if it could reverse polarity to push things David would be able to push and pull Smasher around freely, making it impossible for him to get close or run away depending on what David wants.
The Cyberskeleton also seems to have huge physical strength with how it threw military vehicles dozens of feet in the air. Even with how heavily armored Adam Smasher is if David found an opening he could probably do some serious damage.

So the funny thing that debunks all of this is the fact that people forget to put in perspective what that suits biggest fault was when it is put against Smasher: he was the test for it. They were trying to make a suit that could defeat Smasher. This means he had fought it before, he knew it's weaknesses and limits. He knew what it could and couldn't do. And being the (at the time) most powerful singular man in Night City, Chadam Smasher was far beyond what anything David had could do. David had a prototype sandy that allowed for someone more normal to get more use out of it which was it's point. And in fairness, it does just that. A normal person would be able to use it as much as someone with a high tolerance would. But Smasher Is almost completely borged and Is already a cyber psycho. He has nothing to worry about. So he can use his constantly without any issue. And his makes him faster than David's could. Add to that Smasher's strength being capable of tearing apart armored trucks with relative ease and near immortality, David really didn't have a chance. Smasher was bulletproof, near rocket proof, explosive proof, and his cybernetics were strong enough to resist the gravity attacks. The only person who had any chance to hurt him was Lucy but even then, his ICE is too good for even Arasaka techs to work out according to some stuff in the game.
He is simply night city's second most powerful legend. But V was a different breed so still he isn't number one
Alright I needed this. Just knowing that I can win any fight with motivation and painkillers has really changed my perception in life.
Every season of tgis show should be a exploration of random peoples lives in night city

My plan for when i get cp2077 and gets to fight adam smasher,
1. Drop him to 75% hp with just guns
2. Drop him to 50% hp using katana
3. Drop him to 10% hp using guns, katana and sadeviatas.
4. Drop him to 1% hp and try to kill him the same way he dis rebecca. A drop from the sky.
So all of this maybe possible. You just need the cyber ware that does damage when you land. I don’t remember what it is exactly, could be a perk tbh hahaha

Agreed, I have had this opinion for a while, David was at the end of his life Before he even saw smasher, if he had been at his peak, like when he was fighting the convoy, he definitely could have managed to put up a really good fight, his sandevistan was better than smasher’s and the damage that his chrome was capable of doing was nearly unmatched in the cyberpunk universe
You also gotta remember that smasher most defiantly would have studied the suit for weaknesses and strong points to better his kill ratio so he would have known the suit inside and out

Tbh i Never realised i how Goat of a character V was until seeing this fight. My bro single-handedly ripped smasher while himself being on his death bed.
David could have but he needed pretty much EVERYTHING to fall in to place, which is almost fated not to happen in night city (V kind of broke that somewhat). He needed to have plenty of suppressors, for them to stay in his system long enough, he needed to not see Lucy so he wasn’t distracted, etc. He honestly was special because he was “scrappy”, which I think is why smasher respects him in the end and offers him to become like himself, but he wasn’t naturally a psychopath. He cared if people got hurt, he cared about his friends enough to not give all his energy to the fight and also to helping them, the only way to beat smasher is to be like him: practically alone, at war with yourself, and willing to whatever it takes
Don't forget Smasher considered the Cyber Skeleton to be a failure due to its heavy reliance on the anti gravitational field. The Skeleton combine with the Sandevistan could wipe armored squads but Smasher has levelled armies.
I feel like Adam was just playing with him from the start, even in the final moments in the garden adam was pissed that david was using anti grav to move, david was giving it his all while Adam was just doing another job, if adam even considered the possibility of david beating him he would've ripped him apart from the get go given he also has a military grade sandy.

My favorite thing about how powerful adam smasher is played up to be is the fact i whooped his ass with low tier gorilla fists

In all fairness, Adam wasn’t in his prime during the events of Edgerunners OR 2077. In the tabletop version of the game (which is canon btw), Adam had the Oni exoskeleton and numerous other implants he simply did not have in the anime or 2077. He was basically nerfed which is even crazier to think about because he was already folding some top tier Mercs without those. Imagine prime smasher! He would’ve swept David like air.

Another thing people forget is that David had literally JUST installed the Cyber Skeleton. When you get new glasses prescriptions, or even the same prescription but in a new frame, your eyes aren’t used to it yet and it takes a while to adjust. You may get headaches, trouble seeing, etc.
David chromed up so fast he was likely experiencing these adjustment pains/troubles throughout his entire nervous system for the entirety of the series post timeskip. On top of that, when he finally DID face Adam Smasher, he was already tired from facing the Militech army in the badlands and MaxTac/Arasaka in the streets of Night City. He even tells the crew he needs to rest his eyes for a second, just to give himself a tiny amount of rest.
Even when he encountered Smasher, his main concern was getting Lucy out and killing Faraday, not fighting Smasher.
All this, and he was STILL able to make Adam Smasher, a dude with 50+ years of experience in his chrome (compared to David’s 6 months/couple HOURS for the cyber skeleton) actually try. Given the same level of experience, David would stomp smasher. He truly was special in the end, and Adam Smasher admits this himself.
There will never be another like the Sandevistan from Santo.

Only thing with David is he just wasn’t very smart, so unless he fixes that he’s probably going to have a hard time unless he can match smashers brute force.
I know I'm necromancing this post, but the whole trope of David not being used to the cyberskeleton is sort of moot. Let me explain. As soon as the first battle started, he flatlined the entire regiment without taking so much as a sliver of damage. He didn't need to get used to it because he was already firing on all cylinders because of the program that taught him how to use it being installed immediately. It's a hard thing to admit, but David Martinez never stood a chance and was simply more fodder for Smasher. He was too young, too hasty, too arrogant, and it cost him everything.

Imo he would’ve put up a better fight had he first fought Smasher when he put on the Cyber-Skeleton, but it would’ve been an uphill battle that he’d likely still lose. Not only does he still lack the experience Smasher has, but Smasher himself made it clear he was barely trying for most of the fight (up until he got angy and dismantled our boy), because nothing David could throw at him could outmatch or catch him by surprise. His anti-grav powers could do little more than briefly interrupt Smasher (as shown towards the end of the fight) and David’s Sandevistan couldn’t be much help either since Smasher also has one, which is significant because the Sandevistan is something David leans heavily on in all his fights. Even the Arasaka exec thought bringing in Adam Smasher would’ve been overkill for the situation (mind you this is after David just slaughtered dozens of militech personnel and armored vehicles)

I don't agree, after Lucy kissed David his cyberpsychosis basically disappeared. We only saw it resurface briefly when Rebecca died.

Smasher uses a Dragoon frame by this time in 2075/2076. That paired with his Sandevistan, and other mods makes him way, way out of Davids league with or without that suit.
Smasher is 96% borg and all of his organs are shielded with heavy duty armor. Davids meat suit is hanging out for everyone to see and shoot.
If David had the many many years that Smasher had to augment himself then yes, David could have rivaled Smasher. But thats money, corpo access to chrome and the ability to modify most of its software to be compatable.
Adam smasher literally calls his equipment training wheels... So.... I think that settles any doubt
If David had actually used the gravity generator he could have just turned whatever was left of Smasher's brain into paste and ended the fight in an instant. People really underestimate how insanely overpowered it would be. It makes every single other bit of tech in the cyberpunk universe instantly obsolete.
If the fight had happened earlier Adam would have been limping away at least. But jumping in that thing was a death sentence from the moment he jacked in so he’d have tapped out before too long anyway
The man was being held down by several times his weight in gravity and still managed to rip off the gravity generators. It would've been a short episode if Adam tried.
Makes sense..look end of the say the Skeleton was a new weapon and Adam was going to wear and test it.. so it is something more advanced than what he is.
Not to mention the suit he was using was meant for smasher... so technically his chrome was better than Adam's..

Double Davids powers, like everything he got then he could do it and also in a much more compact body.
I would say would be close but i think smashers better experience with his moveset over davids inexperience would likely lead to a smasher victory but smasher would probably be pretty banged up at least.

In my opinion, he could have, but at the same time, it was a tap for david, so if you could think of it, they could see if david was compatible like the sandevastand but they could have riged it so they could use david as a human projects for chrome or why he doesn't go psychosic
