  • The Black Boy Inn was built in 1522 and is one of the oldest inns in North Wales. Formerly known as the 'King's Arms' and the 'Fleur de Lys', they both became one when one landlord bought the out the other and created Black Boy Inn.
The Black Boy Inn is located in Northgate Street, a very short 5 minute walk from the medieval Caernarfon castle. This historic town is situated on the eastern shore of the Menai Strait, a short distance from the popular Snowdonia National Park.
There are a number of theories which explain the origins of the inns name. One suggests that it was named after a navigational buoy which was found in the harbour during the early days of the inn, and another suggests that it refers to the nickname given to the former king of England, Charles II, as it was discovered that the royalists secretly met here during the 17th century.
Our rooms have maintained their traditional charm, but with a contemporary twist. The rooms will transport you back to 1522, except with all the modern luxuries you would expect to find.
Black Boy Inn is one the few remaining free houses which is owned by an independent family business in the UK. You can come by enjoy a drink at our real ale bar. We also serve a great selection of food for all to enjoy, alongside booking your stay in our bed and breakfast in Caernarfon.
