Nightwish is kinda special, as in extremely perfectly good with a nice balance between a sense of humor a lot of drama and reality.

Emppu co-wrote the music with Tuomas. Century Child was the first album recorded with Marko.
You were close, yep about a songwriters feeling when their work is harshly criticized.
ooo, declaring this as your new favorite halfway through, before Marko and Floor started singing together, that must have cemented that opinion LOL.
Just 2 left at this concert, 2 of the epic ones. TGSOE and GLS.

With only two more to go, it looks like Tampere Tuesday may be on the horizon? Magnificent concert with Floor on top of her vocal game (the subtlety & colouring at the end of GLS when Floor's out on the runway is absolutely unmatched). Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘

Tampere? That’s a weird way to spell Tammerfors. Anyway, the most important thing is that our Swedish Valkyrja is there. The bright -Finnish- Eastern Swedish summer night also adds to the awesomeness. Magnificent concert indeed!🤘

@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Weird indeed, since we all know that Tammerfors is actually a metathesis of "Ammersfort", which is derived from the ancient medieval city of Amersfoort in the -Netherlands- sorry.. Nedermarken. So it's all a Dutch affair once again.
Certainly at that 2015 concert with the whole Jansen family in attendance. Imagine Irene jumping on stage for a little Jansen & Jansen interlude. Would've been awesome.

Well, I told you this is the best concert.
A rare example of a Tuomas' "hate" song, though that's only a small part.
2 hours into the concert and the vocal gymnastics are incredible, not least the rapid triplets at the end
An exhausting song to put near the end of a show

Great reaction Nikki. I always thought this song was Tuomas ranting about the greed of the music business and how it gets in the way of creating art but another commenter mentioned that in the Nightwish official biography, Once Upon a Nightwish, Tuomas said he wrote the song after he was approached in a bar in Finland by a friend of Tarja's saying he was an asshole. From the book "Slaying the Dreamer is extremely heavy. I wrote the lyrics after a bar night at five a.m. I had just been told what a horrible person and an asshole I am, blah blah. The whole thing was actually really insignificant, but it hurt me like a thousand needles. Tarja's good friend came up to me in Kitee's Karhu Bar and said, "You treat Tarja so fuckin' bad - don't you understand how much she has done for your band? How dare you not give any credit to her!" Like, "Don't you ever think about what Tarja's going through", stuff like that. This person, whom I hardly even know, gave me total hell for five minutes. I have nothing against him personally, but the incident kind of triggered many traumas. I wanted to tell some people what I really think about them, and when I got back home, I wrote 'Slaying the Dreamer'. In the morning, I read the lyrics in a clearer state of mind and deleted the f-words. The result can be heard on the album"

This was from the 2002 album 'Century Child' by Nightwish... it was a dark record lyrically because Tuomas was considering ending the band because of his issues w/ the music business and his own issues w/ pressure and (likely) depression... There were a few songs on the album that revealed his internal despair at the time: 'End of all hope' ... 'Dead to the world' ... 'Bless the child'
It's easy to be an unknown musician to write songs and put them out... it's much more stressful when ur band is famous and the pressure comes from all sides on the songwriter (Tuomas) to make the fans happy and the record label money$$$... Add in the haters who publicly put him down in the press and hate on the band, and u get the song - 'Slaying the dreamer'...
