What an incredibly intelligent animal who understands buoyancy and the sharks anatomy. It knows if it removes the liver the shark will rise to the surface. It also appears the orcas were selective in the organs they wanted. Insane!

XR6 Turbo only in captivity but never in the wild. Why? Because they are stressed being cooped up to entertain humans out of sheer pleasure for years and years! Separated from their pods and families. They don't belong in captivity and their places is out there in the big open sea. Btw, we humans are not in their diet list. They are too intelligent and smart to know that we are not food.

I went on Shark Cage Dive with Marine Dynamics on 5/3, the same morning one of the Great Whites washed up ashore, and thus unfortunately we didn't get to see any sharks because of these Orca predations. But WOW! What an experience. Marine Dynamics provided a great experience even though we missed out on an actual shark experience. I would definitely recommend. Gansbaai and the South African coast is beautiful and the people were all nice. I can't wait to go back to SA, and will definitely try again with Marine Dynamics.

It's hard for a great white to survive against orcas not because their size but because orchas usually travel in packs especially when it's feeding time. Great white sharks on the other hand roam the waters freely and are known to attack one another if they aren't careful especially during feeding time. Though orcas are much bigger, a bite from a great white shark can do major damage to an orca.
Jaws the movie was based off the great white sharks ancestors the megalodon which ate huge Wales and killed killer Wales and we're known to attack boats and ships. They grew 40 to 60 feet long and weighed 50 thousand to 100 thousand pounds. Since humans have only researched and understand only about 5% of the ocean, I'm sure there may be one still lurking the seas.

Interesting that the biologists are concerned about big, nasty, dangerous sharks when a lot of folks down in Oz would prefer that they just disappeared. I recall an incident a number of years ago where animal rescue people 'saved" a couple of harbor seals. I think they were coated by an oil slick and were in bad shape. Anyway, they were rescued, washed, and nursed back to health over a period of a few weeks. Big Day came for their release from the marine aquarium, with hundreds of onlookers gathered to send them back to the wild They made it about 1/2 mile from shore before a shark had 'em both for lunch!

Probably prey is quite abundant where they are, so the orcas can afford to be wasteful. The liver is full of oil, and hence is the most calorie rich part of the shark.
This is actually quite common in the animal kingdom; during the height of salmon runs in Alaska, brown bears often only eat the eggs and head of female salmon, and discarded anything else. Polar bears in spring and fall season often only eat the blubber of the seals they killed, leaving the meat to the scavengers.

The more we learn from them about them the more it is obvious that these animals are as intelligent as humans if not more. I'm no tree hugger and I actually hate anything that is above me on the food chain, but I am in total awe at these things. If they ever start harming humans then I will be all for their destruction but as of yet I don't think there has ever been an Orca attack on people. With that being said there's more and more people every year putting themselves in the water with them and I keep thinking "ok one of these days somebodies going to annoy or aggravate one that is in a bad mood or having a bad day." Orcas have different levels of sociality, not all of them live in large pods. Sometimes they only live in groups of 2-3 individuals. In the case of these South African killers, it's a pair of adult males nicknamed Port and Starboard. They've likely killed well over a dozen Great Whites.
