Normally people wouldn’t vote for him. However, If voting is already rigged, all the Dems need is plausibility that people will vote for Newsom. He is energetic, can speak coherently, etc., so different than Biden. That will be enough for the Dems to say people wanted Newsom and he “wins.” There is no way they can say Biden is going to win, they know that.
Don't forget: We are subject to the Electoral College system. If you are still living in CA, your vote for Newsom has already been cast. You have no voice in the matter. All of CA's electoral votes will go to Newsom.

As a Californian I didn't vote for Gavin Newsom. I have watched him very closely though and I've been screaming a warning from the rooftops for the last several years that he must not be allowed to get near that oval office.

Back around 2003 I read an article called Meat Market in a free-time magazine in Dallas. The article delineated how Mexicans had traditionally been employed in a very famous meat processing company since the 70's. This woman explained that she and others had been replaced by people from Central America, and they all had name-tags that read "Bob" or "John," names they couldn't even pronounce in English. Turns out, the meat packing industry had been running ads in countries like Venezuela for workers. When one Mexican got hurt in those treacherous work conditions (floors slick with blood), the company just kicked them to the curb. This is the reality of illegal immigration. I live in Texas--I know.
The employers hire illegally with impunity and never suffer any consequences, nor are they required to provide a safe workplace. It happens in California too.
