Hahaha, if I remember it correctly this can happen because:
1. Indonesian coach instruction is to push Kamura (the front player) to the back, that's why they always try to give high clear to Kamura, they try to ignore Sonoda
2. Japan's coach, who is also Indonesian and very familiar with how this Indonesian MD plays, instructs Kamura/Sonoda to push Kevin (the front player) to the back, that's why they always try to give high clear to Kevin and ignore Gideon
3. The shuttle at that day is super-super slow for MD level. A standard smash is comparably slower than usual, that's why for them when someone smash, they can figuratively defend while yawning. But they can't attack either because the smash will be slow, it's just wasting time and energy.
4. Kevin is usually very deadly in front IF the shuttle is quick. The quicker the shuttle, Kevin is more effective. But the shuttle is slow so he is not as deadly, more over the other front player Kamura has similar styles. So if they make risky shot, it will be easy for the other to actually use that to counter. Both are also given instructions that they should try to make a winning interception to send it to the back player (to Gideon or Sonoda), because if they counter it the shuttle can only be half court due to the slow shuttle.
5. They are bored because doing their usual tactics will only waste energy, so they play a mental game and endurance.
The coach of Japanese team is actually from Korea
@@vincentchen5543 Yes and the other one is Indonesian. Fortunately they showed it here 2:06 (on the right). His name is Rionny Mainaky. He coached both Kamura/Sonoda and Watanabe/Endo pairs.
Nice analyst
Who says Kevin deadly Kevin deadly,
Ya but who asked?
hearing the sound of the shuttle coming off those clears really makes me wish we weren't in a pandemic right now T.T
'pandemic'
We are in a pandemic of stupidity, first of the governments, and secondly of the masses.
In Russia badminton clubs are opened since July, I feel sorry for you if you are still in a lockdown mode...=(
@@KeithHiew Yes, some call it the greatest coverup in history. I only hope the masses will realise this.
what are you guys talking about. It is an existing virus and getting it has different consequences depending on your health condition
Freaking love this match, the way Sonoda nervously waiting for the shuttle to come was like a baby waiting for the food to enter its mouth lol
Same to Gideon,
No need for the cheesy background music :(
Yess the shuttlecock sound + fans itself is already enough 😁😁
Gideon at 1:33 was like, enough of this BS, I'm also in this game!😁
130 shots in the game between these two pairs in World Tour Finals 2019
Yeahhh, 139 shoots
both of them are saying "surely he'll fucked up at some point"
As long as so far longest rally all discipline number by Naoko Fukuman/Kurumi Yonao vs Poon Lok Yan/Tse Ying Tsuet 4:45 minute in QF Denmark Open 2015 SSP
Yeah... and you can compare ahsan/hendra for 4 minutes time mark they already got 11 point break...

Iblike how gideon is the one whos taking it serious and the tohers are like whatever
clears be kinda crispy
😂😂, that's how I play in a fast vertical horizontal hits i just take it personal 😂
I think the longest one is on the Dubai super series final, also between minions and KamSon. With 139 shots. That time, minions won the rally...and the match.
Not Dubay Super Series. Its in Guangzhou, World Tour Final 2019.
I remember the longest rally between these two men's doubles was at 107 shots when they met in the semifinal of BWF Superseries Finals in Dubai in 2017. Minions won that rally.
Why is that they exchange cross clears rather than long-line ones? Is it because it's easier to attack from the backhand?
The exchange of clears are always between the two front court players from each side, Kamura vs Sukamuljo because they're trying to keep the stronger front court player in the back and the stronger rear court player in the front. Normally you don't see this type of exchange in men's double's because whoever is in the rear will always play an attacking shot but they didn't for some reason in this rally.
@@Tiger35T Ah alright, thanks for the explanation!
Just to add.
Cross clear is also some sort of signal from the player who is doing clear that they "want to be in front immediately after this, so please attack". That sort of message to his team mate.
However, what happens particularly in this match is some kind of mind games at play.
At that day, the room condition combined with available shuttle only allows the shuttle to travels at slow speed. Also, they don't have different shuttle types to adapt the room condition in this tournament.
This affects both gameplan, because both Kevin and Kamura is deadly front player who scores point using quick drive/intercept. Their attacks becomes ineffective because the shuttle is slow, so the other front player opponent can control the return to make a counter.
Both coaches knew this and adapts the strategy, they instructs their players to push each other's front player to the back by doing clear (doesn't matter cross or straight, but it has to be to the front player). Normally this is not possible, but it is now because the shuttle is slow.
As you can see, Kamura cross clear to Kevin to signal Sonoda (his teammate) that he wants to go to the front. But Kevin knew this and denied the opportunity by also giving a cross clear.
In summary, the winning plan now (because the shuttle is slow):
1. Push the front player to the back to render them useless
2. Front player (who is supposed to be guarding and attacking from the net) must not smash from backcourt, because the shuttle will be slow and the opponent can easily counter to the (unguarded) net which makes the stalemate longer but with diminishing stamina for the person who smash.
3. Given the opportunity, back court player must smash to the front player so their front player can finish the wild return (it's not possible for the back court player to perform winning smash because of the slow shuttle)
4. Given the opportunity, front player must drive and score a kill to the back court player because it will not be easy for them to defend from the back from a slow shuttle. Why? Because the back player's return most probably stay in half court.
They are playing the patient game because the shuttle is slow and renders most front attack useless.
@@RizkyMaulanaNugraha Wow, thanks for the detailed response! I had never really seen a situation like this in men's doubles before, so I was slightly confused. Your explanations helped me understand the situation, though.
Jadi kangen kevin😭😭
Like Kevin vs Kamura
Kevin mArcus gagal di QF Kejuaraan Dunia untuk kedua kalinya di sini. Sedih kalau lihat pertandingan ini.
Kevin-Marcus selalu out perform di kejuaraan dunia, Tahun Kemaren aja main pertama langsung gugur

The Minions 🇲🇨
Longest in badminton or MD? What about Polii/Maheshvari vs jpn WD?
Longest rallies *not* the longest rally.
Nah.. that's the longest match ever but the longest rally happened in Denmark Open (I don't remember the year of season) between Fukuman/Yonao (JPN) vs Poon/Tse (HKG), accounted for about 255 shots

Miss all the partners👬
They deserve the point....
118 shots
Main reason they weren't taking that serious was also because Kamura and Sonoda was already out of the groups so they weren't full on
That was in Dubai World Championship, not this one. This is actually in the final of China Open. So obviously they want to win the match.
This one is because the shuttle is slow and the organizer doesn't prepare different shuttle speed to adapt room condition.
Edit: Oops, never mind my rambling. The carpet shows Nanjing, so this is definitely the World Championships. I thought this one was Fuzhou Final 2019. Yeah, weren't they both out as group winner and second place so there's really no reason to waste energy in this particular match?
Clown this is world champs

When your opponent only play clears it is clearly a show of disrespect.
Err wtf u drunk?
@@shishomon yeah he's drunk
Clearly he was drunk...
What do you mean? they realized they can't make a point from smash due to the slow shuttle at that time, that's why they are only doing clear. If I have to criticize it's actually the tournament organizer disrespecting the players by not making different shuttle speeds available to match the room conditions.
Disrespect, i think you are out of your mind buddy
Early gangg
Both has weak attacks. Woman double
And you are probably child double.
Lol wtf u just can't judge people attack by 1 rally dude, and badminton it just not only about power bruh 😑
LOL...
They're world no. 1 dude,
And their expertise is ultra fast speed and agility not strong attacks.
But Gideon's and Sonoda's power also quite strong,,
@@AUEN1512 I agree, still weak as fuck tho
They are not, in this specific day most players complains that the shuttle is "too slow" and it also affected by the room temperature.
It affects MD the most because they have relatively good reflexes so jump smash will be relatively easy to neutralize because they are accustomed to defending more heavier/quicker smash.
Also, when I said "too slow" I refer to the drive shot speed, not backcourt smash. Both front player (Kevin and Kamura) relies on quick intercept to drive from the net, but since it's slow it can be countered and not as deadly as before. That's why BOTH of them resort to this tactic.
