    • @mikedeck8381

The reason why he calls him shit stain is because no matter how hard Cornette he can't erase him from wrestling. He's like a shit stain that won't come out of the carpet. On the other hand Cornette wouldn't maintain the heat he has with Russia if he didn't see some value there. Why have a fued with someone if they are inconsequential? Jeep in mind he's a wrestling guy, they are bombastic, liars, who try to manipulate your psychology. He wants you to ask that question and look at Russo and his work hopefully you even take a side. Wrestling 101, create, heat, draw a crowd, make money at least at this point. He did hate working with Russo back in the day.

Jeff Jarrett, as TNA world champion, put over Sting, AJ Styles, Rhyno, Raven, The Alpha Male, Ken Shamrock, Ron Killings, Christian Cage and Abyss. When TNA developed it's own World Heavyweight Championship, Jeff Jarrett NEVER got the title a SINGLE TIME but in matches he put over Sting, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Christian Cage and Rob Van Dam when they were the TNA/Impact World Heavyweight Champion. And Jeff gave TOP NOTCH matches every time he went out there, whether he won as champion, lost the championship to someone else or challenged for the championship and lost. ENLIGHTEN ME how he was NOT morally correct to put over other legends and younger talent that TODAY are considered legends?

Cornette has admitted that he’s softened his opinion on Bischoff lately. They found common ground in their loathing of Russ-bro. I think they’re actually more similar than either one wants to admit. Cornette wins in terms of pure wrestling knowledge hands down, but he’d beat just about anyone in that area. Eric has better long-term vision and is probably more in touch with modern culture. But they’re both incredibly smart, articulate and creative….and they both have the reputation of being stubborn and arrogant at times.

I know Russo and Jarrett go back a long way and always worked well together for better or for worst so it's no surprise that Jeff gave Russo another chance in TNA but I also know that Cornette has hated Russo's guts since theirs days working together in WWF in the mid 90s. It's a tough situation and I see both sides of it equally but in the end, it was going go badly no matter what between Cornette and Russo.

Here’s a rarity….someone that will admit that Cornette probably gets a little too much praise and that Russ-bro probably deserves a little more credit than he gets. That said, if mediating between the two, I’m probably going to side with Cornette 8 or 9 times out of 10. But, when Russo was on target, he was a dead on bullseye.
Case in point: Survivor Series 1998. Russo’s magnum opus. Not perfect, but 99%. Brilliant writing/booking. One of the best PPVs of the Attitude era, if not in WWF history.
That kind of scenario was ideal for Russo’s style. Fast moving, short matches, a lot of twists and turns in one night. The problem…..Russo couldn’t write any other way. The best thing to do would have been slow down just a touch just after that, especially on the undercard stuff. And that’s where Cornette comes in. He’s great on the small details that make matches, angles and scenes believable and interesting. Where he falls short is understanding the individual characters and kick starting storylines.

    • @Giveme1goodreason

Credit for what?? Honestly I’ve been watching raw from the start of 98. If it doesn’t have the rock or stone cold in it, it’s actually a lot of garbage. I probably liked it at 10 but Jesus it’s so bad. Sure Russo had something to do with the rock and stone cold segments. But he was let loose on the rest of it and it’s bad. Then you have his work in wcw that was putrid garbage.

@@Giveme1goodreason 1998 in my opinion was great around the summer but that year on the whole was mostly a rebuilding phase following the mass exodus of talent over the previous 2 years.
1999 for me was WWF at its absolute best but whether or not you liked the creative content on the show in 1998, the formatting/structuring of the show is what actually made the WWF a success. The formula of having an A story and a B story threaded from top to bottom each week, and a cliffhanger every quarter hour to make sure you stayed tuned in is what ultimately grew the audience. Once Russo left and they ditched that formula, within a year they had lost millions of viewers and it was downhill from there.

Hiring Russo saw the company's viewership increase virtually every single year, peaking at more than 2 million viewers in 2011 (Cornette left in 2009 so the company did just fine without him). From a business standpoint that ratings increase ultimately brings in more money for TNA, and it pleases the network which brings the possibility of extra investment and ad revenue once contract renewal talks roll around. Logically, why would a TV network cancel a deal with a show because that show hired a writer? That's not how TV works, dude. The network pay for ratings because it generates ad revenue, and if the ratings drop too low the show tends to get canceled.
