Many thanks, Hans, for the so valuable tutorial. It is much more powerful than the older downloader that only downloads DEM 90m. Many thanks
This is wonderful
Thank you so much for explaining this useful tool!
Thanks for this. Finally found how to get DEM files. ❤️
THANK YOU THIS IS SO SIMPLE AND HELPFUL
Again verry helpful! thank you
Thank you. This is much better and easier
Excelent. I tried it
How to download point of interest ? and how to handle data
According to what do you give values to Nodata in warp projection ?
It needs to be a value that is out of the range of the data values in the raster. We often use -9999.
i have a little problem... qgis says "API Key Error: Please check your API key OR Cannot Access DEM
Execution failed after 0.79 segundos" and i'm using the key generated in OpenTopography web page
Estoy con el mismo problema tambien. Lo resolviste?
Does the target in the reprojection make a difference? I don't know which UTM target to choose so I just chose Default CRS with the rest of the same parameters for the reprojection. Yours runs so quickly whereas I've been waiting for hours for the projection to finish...any tips?
The target should be the projection you want to work with. If you just want to visualise the DEM, you can keep it in GCS (EPSG:4326) and don't need to reproject. If you want to do analysis, you need to reproject, so the X and Y units are the same as the Z units (m). You can choose a national projection or for example UTM. If you google UTM zones you can find pictures with all the zones and choose the one for your study area. which version of QGIS is compatible with this plugin?
From QGIS 3.16
what about large countries like USA, it throws an error
Probably there are size limitations with the API. If you want very large areas you can choose a coarse resolution DEM or download from a web source. If you really need 30 m DEM data for USA, you can download the tiles with the SRTM Downloader plugin (ruclips.net/video/9gQBwYltcK0/видео.html) or directly from USGS Earth Explorer (earthexplorer.usgs.gov/, ruclips.net/video/kmKUJ7G_CoE/видео.html).
@@HansvanderKwast thanks a lot, is there a way where i can upload a shapefile already saved on my system with defined boundaries so that i don't have to download huge tiles altogether? Thank you for the reply
@@DaysGone_2 the OpenTopography DEM Downloader plugin only downloads the DEM within the specified extent as shown in the video. These are not tiles, but the entire DEM for the extent. The SRTM Downloader plugin, discussed in this video ruclips.net/video/9gQBwYltcK0/видео.html, downloads separate tiles. As far as I know there's no plugin where you can submit a polygon and get the clipped DEM.
i usually use R and the elevatr package to download DEM for the specified shapefile that actually downloads and clips the DEM from AWS and Opentopo, super handy tool but after a certain resolultion the program stops working so was looking for other options. Thanks a lot for the information. Wishing you good health@@HansvanderKwast
