‘Better Call Saul’ Is the Most Well-Written Show on Television | The Watch Podcast | The Ringer

- Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan, the creators or AMC’s 'Better Call Saul,' have mastered one of the toughest tasks in television and film: making a prequel or sequel that’s on par with the original. They’ve done that by focusing on the "how" part of who, what, when, where, why, and how. Even though the end point of 'Better Call Saul' is largely known, the show has incredible drama, which stems from the writing. 'Better Call Saul' has taken pieces of the 'Breaking Bad' universe and run with them to create the most well-written show on TV right now.

it is so sad, that so many people didn´t give the show a chance just because it feels a little slower than breaking bad
Unfortunately everyone just wants action more than good story telling
It started slow but picked up in the latest seasons. Exactly like Breaking Bad actually.
Ik but Even breaking could be very slow at times.
the first couple seasons were a bit slow but still had great writing, the last few seasons have been incredible, nacho and lalo are amazing
Lol einfach open mind hier :D
this show is so underrated, i honestly don't understand why more breaking bad fans don't watch it
I've never seen it, but I've watched BB twice. I think the reason I never took interest is because I know exactly how it will end, since it is a prequel, but more significantly I always viewed it as "just a spinoff". I never thought it'd actually have substance, I thought it was just a little side cash grab. I'll give it a shot sometime.
Justin K but we don’t know how Jimmy/Saul’s story will end. We get snippets the beginning of every season of Gene, Saul’s identity after Breaking Bad, and as these snippets go on, we see more and more of his life after Breaking Bad and it’s very interesting. I want to see how all of that plays out. As for the Jimmy McGill story, it’s incredibly fantastic. It’s to the point where at the end of Season 4, I did not want him to become Saul, which sort of means I don’t want what happens in Breaking Bad and the various storylines that happen where he is directly involved in to happen. You like Jimmy for who he is and not for who he’ll become. Gets to where it’s actually heartbreaking to see him become Saul as Jimmy is a great guy. Yeah, he made mistakes that he shouldn’t have, but he’s a guy who always means well. Him becoming Saul is quite sad in a way.
I think it's because not only do we know the outcome but the premise doesn't sound as interesting as the premise of BB. I mean a chemistry teacher becoming a meth dealing king pin....that sounds pretty cool.
Justin K with this mindset that it’s a prequel, you’ll just lose out on great story telling.
“Oh I didn’t watch episode 1-3 of Star Wars because I know what’s going to happen”
Pathetic.
It’s the why, who, when and how which is the beat part.
@@wifine1951 To be fair, I don't like Star Wars at all and never have :P But yes, sometimes prequels can be good. I just feel like Saul's fate in the end is way too tragic.
I was so nervous and was shaking when Nacho was replacing Hector's pills. This is a really good show.
I had to pause and come back to it haha
Yeah, that part of the show gave me mini heart attack too .. I love this show!
I fast forwarded it
My forehead looked like Nachos after that scene. Just sweaty and shaking lol
Nacho is so underrated
The cinematography is my favorite I’ve ever seen on TV. Idk how many times during every episode I end up saying “wow, that’s a beautiful shot”
you'd love Mr Robot then, Sam Esmail gave some proper attention to detail in that
my favorite was the shot where Mike had to put down Zeigler
Bryan Aswez one of the best! “I think I’ll go out here to take a closer look”
I love the scene where the ants find Saul's choc mint ice cream cone, that was better than any nat geo!
My "wow" shot from S5 was one of Nacho and Father-of-Nacho sitting on either side of a table in silhouette. Such a beautiful composition. Roger Deakins-worthy. It elevated the whole scene.
They should seriously teach this in film school. That single shot in the court house was just a step above. Gilligan and Gould are at the top of the class right now.
Justin Falzon David Chase will remain king 🤴
which scene?
Mostly Gould. Vince is not that much involved in the show anymore.
@@patoloquend0 come on.. This is his baby he will always be somehow involved especially since season 6 is the last piece of this BrBa saga ending. The way they have turned BrBa into this sequel/prequel film and spin-off series is just amazing. I feel like I am dreaming and I am so grateful to still be so immersed in this universe.
Frank Semyon BrBa is Vince's baby; BCS is Gould's. Even Vince himself said in an interview he gave for some radio show promoting El Camino that he wasn't that involved in BCS anymore, he pretty much directed an episode as a guest for this season and that's it. I'm sure he's still somehow involved but it's Gould and co. steering the ship right now.
I still can't undetstand how Jonathan Banks lost the Emmy to Peter Dinklage for S2 and 3 of BCS. Easily some of his greatest performances.
Bob Odinkirk is seriously overdue for an Emmy. And How in HELL did S7 and 8 of GOT beat BCS for Best Drama?!?!?! With that horrendous writing, are you serious?!?!
Money and popularity.
Its kind of karma the best got seasons lost to breaking bad n the bad ones best bcs
@@swarommuley3444 but Tyrion wasn't the same the only season he deserved it was got season 3 and he didn't win losing to jessie pinkman season 5
TBH, the acting on GOT is not even comparable to BCS, nor the writing so I have no idea. I don't understand the Dinklage love. Maybe because he's a dwarf?
@@swarommuley3444 Dinklage isn't a good actor, though. What has he done that compares? We're talking real acting, not dragons and fairytales.
In the episode where Saul drops the ice cream cone, my immediate thought was about how in real life, ants would flock to it. You can’t imagine how delighted I was to see the next scene be a montage of exactly that!
That scene went on for so long but I loved it
Details matter.
It was a nice way to tie the beginning of one episode to the end of the previous one.
Bravo vince!
Fun fact: This video was made before that episode lol
I was once one of the Breaking Bad fans that thought Better Call Saul would just be a 2nd class spin off and it wouldn’t be near as interesting as BB. Boy oh boy was I wrong. BCS is so good, I think I like it better. People should give it a shot.
back in April 2020 I was once one of those people who had never watched BB or BCS. Not even heard of it. Then a friend made a throw away comment that BCS is worth watching - ep1 scene 1 watching that black and white cinabon clip, I was intrigued. Hooked line and sinker. Now onto BB, currently at series 4. This lockdown has been good for netflix binging :-)
It is slow in s1 and s2, but picks up in the latter part.
Still, it was milking The "spin-off " tag at 1st.
Definitely not better than BB, but my opinion on BCS has improved since I binge watched it to s5
Yeah, I’m sort of the same. I massively enjoyed breaking bad and think it’s probably the best series I’ve ever watched but I don’t really miss it. I was almost relieved when I finished it because it was so harrowing watching one man tear apart his family and ruin so many other peoples lives. I feel like the ending was the perfect send off for the show. Whereas with BCS I actually care for the characters and feel like I have a more intimate knowledge of them. Watching BCS just feels like a warm hug compared to BB which was like having to watch a car crash. All be it a very entertaining one.
@Cryer24597 that is a great question. I found that I could watch BCS quite easily without having watched BB. The writers crafted it that way it seems. I didn't need to know who the characters were from BB. What it did do was to heighten my eagerness to watch BB as i really wanted to see how the storyline of those characters developed in BB
@Phasor 777 - You are all over the place in your opinions from one comment to the next. And you said Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are the same person. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you are totally trolling.
Everyone only praises Vince Gilligan, but Peter Gould deserves the same amount of praise
DrValentinovich
Exactly
More so in my opinion. Gould has been the sole showrunner since season 2.
He's a master and completely underrated
@@Missab4000 If that's true. Then this is goulds show all the way. S1 and s2 were the weakest seasons of BCS . Thank God I binge watched it, can't imagine people who waited every week for that
@@randomhuman97 they were very well written seasons....but boring as hell lol.
This is seriously the most satisfying show on this planet.

When lalo asks saul to tell the story over and over again, he hardly repeats the last line again. He tells it with different words every time, U can tell its the most well written show from that scene
I got the biggest dumb smile whenever Lalo is on the screen. Wish he was introduced earlier
JamesBaxterFromAX yea I’m with you he was annoying at first but he’s really a great character
Lalo is the closest I've felt to a terrifying character, right behind Walter White. He's a brilliant guy. As paranoid as Tuco, but way, way more in control. And it's delightful to watch because he has so much fun doing what he does.
ekathe85 You thought Walt and Lalo were more terrifying than Gus? The box cutter scene scared the shit out of me.
Tell me what happened..??
Tell me what exactly happened ????
Tell me again what exactly happened ???
😂😂
@@ANOOPROCKS88 yea that scene was so good. "Tell me again" with that smile was so scary
„Show, don‘t tell“
This is what this show does. Storytelling where dialogue is only the cherry on top. And it has a fantastic rhythm. At some points, it moves slower than most shows dare to, yet it also has some great quick montages. Masterpiece
This exactly! It follows all the basics of high quality story telling. Show don't tell and characters over narrative. Absolutely brilliant. Every episode is an 8/10 at minimum because of this. The cinematography and performances enhance this to pretty much perfection. Masterpiece indeed.
Great observation
hahaha I absolutely love the suit montage when he's trying to get fired from davis & main
That sequence when Fring's men kidnapped Nacho and brought him to his dad's shop and one of the thugs went over to him. I can feel Nacho's panic. Strong execution, editing and acting by everyone. Gus is so effective, he can switch from a charming lovable restaurant boss to a cold blooded villain in a snap.
He’s gayyyy
Why people are saying it's so underrated. That's exactly what happened to Breaking Bad when it was still airing, no record Breaking TRP but as season grew more and more people started liking it. In the end it conclude as the greatest show. Give BCS some time it'll also become a legend someday
I'm not sure if S6 which is the last one will have high ratings, S5 was so fucking brilliant especially the last 5 episodes but many would probably won't reach there since they think first 2 seasons are slow.
@Mayochiki I didn't like the hitmen being useless part, apart from that it was pretty good.
About S6, that's what even I said man.
@Mayochiki it's okay mate
@Mayochiki Nah man GoT was underrated as well until Season 3-4. There were two waves.
The first initial wave people started jumping on Seasons 3-5. Then the next wave was when it got truly phenomenally huge, one of the biggest TV shows ever in scale, budget and hype was S6-7.
GoT was like BB first 3 seasons, both underrated. Then around Seasons 4-5 the shows boomed, difference in GoT with Seasons 6-7 started to fuck up by not straying too far from GRRM's directions and let the hype get to their head whereas BB wisely ended when it needed to.
Don't worry, Saul is a legend anyway!
I actually prefer BCS over BB. Yes the story maybe slow but I feel more attached to these characters. The writing even feels better too.
Yup
@hannie montannie i rewatched Breaking Bad 5 times, i never felt bored. But i cant rewatch better call saul because the first 2 1/2 seasons are far to slow and meaningless.
And because it doesn't have Skyler but mommy kim
@@exorides9400 i couldnt even get through S1 and 2 without fast forwarding some parts. I was actually disappointed with it and had to stop at S2. Just plain boring . Maybe I'll start again to give it another try lol
I'm with you
I can’t believe they only get 1.6 million views opening night and the pilot was like 8 mil. Dummies
Fuck em. We're getting our 6 seasons regardless
hopefully it will start climbing up, this is such a damn good show and its somewhat irritating that its not getting the love it deserves, but hey, still get to watch it
Stuart Nichols I think because a lot of people are streaming now. But have to admit, it’s super fun watching the show at certain times on TV! I feel like a kid again.
Lots of dumb people in the world and they love their dumb shows. BB and BCS are so good that I can't even get into most shows anymore. The bar is set really high.
A lot of people got bored in season one. I admit, I did too, but I've been binging and catching up all week, and boy did I miss out. Can't wait to see season 5 and 6
Not only the best WRITTEN show, but also the best DIRECTED, PRODUCED and ACTED show in the history of TV.
Perhaps give The Wire a chance? Honestly better than Bb and Bcs.
@@glowy_subject3050 Yes!! I'm a huge fan of Better Call Saul, to me it's the best show in the world.. but only after the Wire. The Wire is just better in anything (except drama maybe, but that's because the wire had its goal to be realistic and bcs was to be pessimistic and touching. nothing wrong with both takes tho)!
@shamatric Couldn't agree more. Hearing The Wires ending credits after a very crude death scene was so impactful.
@@glowy_subject3050 season first ending music has always had me near to tears because it's so dark. to me it felt super noir. but it's never been rushing and everything. just to every detail it was so real. I love this show (especially 5th season tho it's a hot take really)
Sorry but i can't top the Sopranos
With season 5, we now know that Kim isn’t repelled by Saul, but the exact opposite
Yeah, and at episode six I am having difficulty buying it. Yeah, she got off to fraudulently obtaining expensive tequila shots, but really... risking everything to be a mob wife? Not the Kim Wexler I knew. I think there's a land shark in the Mexican desert ready to be jumped.
@@JiveDadson You know when she tried so hard to get that old guy to stay in the lot that Mesa Verde bought, even though it'd risk her living, she started to get a "robin hood" mentality (doing only pro bono jobs, litterally implying ruining howards life etc.)
@@suggestiveguy It's also interesting to note that Jimmy's career started out with him basically focusing SOLELY on pro bono work, and while he's moved beyond it, Kim Wexler is embracing it.
The reason this show is written so well is because of something Vince Gilligan knows that, apparently, no other writer has a clue about...and that is "DETAILS MATTER"...if a writer throws something at you on the screen, it is their obligation to explain it to the viewers....most tv shows and movies don't do this...they just expect us to "accept" whatever it is we see, whether we understand it or not...
--> Peter Gould
actually the credit for success is from Peter Gould.
For sure, why do I like watching shots from inside the vending machine or the microwave? Every one of those little shots adds to the scenery/setting and pulls you into the story.
Nahh I think it’s character archs and character building. In some way we all relate to at least of the characters in the show. The Spanish is choppy but I give it a pass.
they also don't hold your hand, which I think is important
Sad that we live in a universe where The Bachelor generates more hype than a show as brilliant as this one.

@@supernana7263 AMURICAAAAA! FUCK YAAH!
I think the only reason BCS doesn't have more viewership is the stakes are lower than BB's, but the storytelling is just as good if not better at times.
The entire BB series Walt is essentially fighting for his life, so the stakes are very high as he leads a double life and puts everything he has in jeopardy, including his family, to survive.
BCS Is a much different story... Jimmy's life does fall into perilous danger a few times, but by and large the story of Jimmy McGill is a much more subtle character story about walking the line between the right thing and taking the easy way through life struggles, big and small.
One thing that kept me away from the show at first was the slow nature of the first season, due in part to the fact you still don't know about what Chuck is really doing. Makes season 2 better because of all the groundwork but it does mean season 1 feels a bit stripped for character conflict.
@@federicoganora6936 Yes, they spent too much time with Chuck.
Perfect way of putting it.
@Phasor 777 "little substance" LMAOOOOO
@Phasor 777 That is an objectively incorrect statement.
Both shows (BB and BCS) have great writing. But where Better Call Saul really excels is in the production. The cinematography--the lighting, the use of color, the shots from unexpected vantage points--along with the editing are so far above anything else in TV. and the movies, too, for that matter. It's like they took what they learned in Breaking Bad about shooting under the New Mexico sky and improved it to near perfection. I think the show in every way is a masterpiece.
Better Call Saul is my favorite show on tv. Effortlessly done.
Aaron Runyon it’s my favorite show of all time. Watched all seasons nearly a dozen times
Yup, Aaron. Lots of us here, including myself, feel it's probably the best thing produced in the history of TV. But it has not been, and no doubt will not be, effortless. I don't know these folks personally, but there's no way something this deep, true, hilarious, & beautiful gets put together without herculean effort. By, likely, hundreds of individuals who all know they're part of a special and lasting part of TV history. They're giving it their all, and we're the beneficiaries. Jimmy McGill is fuckin' beautiful, and Kim Wexler is a frickin' rock star. My hat's off to 'em all.
It's the most well-everything show on television
The acting is top notch, the cinematography and editing are better than what you'll find in 99% of film.
Watch Dark on netflix.
The cinematography is gorgeous, much better than it was in BB
Wilzy DARK is the best product Netflix has put out to date and I’m willing to die on that rock
@@javrami4883 Exactly, I completely agree. I've heard Mr Robot is really good too so that's gonna be the next show I watch though it isn't on netflix but thus far nothing compares to Dark. Dark has absolutely everything and is one of the best written shows of all time yet it's so unbelievably unpopular. I'm trying to convince as many people as possible to watch it but not many do; it's such as shame because it's so so good.
im not gonna rank shows, but u should watch mr.robot if u love cinematography
(it’s one of the best shows ever made)
Not only is the writing of the show top tier, but the direction, cinematography and music are all delivered with finesse. I was skeptical about going back due to the perception of prequels, however this show demonstrates that retrospective stories can be just as good as the original, if not better.
Man this show is something unique, I get lost sometimes in the beuty of the shots and the lighting etc, then I'll have to get back 1min to be sure I didn't miss anything, there's no things left random, it's all..I don't know how to say it but like a good book. The pace is not slow at all, it take it's time to get you in their lives and how're they going, you never feel like they cut something or jumped some day for the sake of the story, everyday they learn something and grow as a character. I fucking love it
Oh yes me too, I get lost in the show like I feel evething the character feels, like when they are drinking I'm thinking about it when they are nervous in nervous too. I honestly can't express how I feel about this show, I got lost on the icecream on the sidewalk scene ah I got so lost in it thought about the meaning behind it the whole day...!
Saul was my favorite character in Breaking Bad, from the first scene he appeared in I was instantly in love with the character and just wanted him to appear as much as possible. You can imagine how I reacted when I heard he was having his own show.
And Jimmy I love even so much more. I'm so glad he's got a deeper psychology now because it makes Saul as a Breaking Bad character even more thrilling.
You should watch the prequel to Better call Saul, Mr Show
A pinkman sequel would be good too... waiting for it
@@ANOOPROCKS88 I guess his story is done with the movie.
Better Call Saul is masterful if only for its spectacular ability to both complement Breaking Bad and stand on its own.
EDIT: It’s masterful in a myriad of ways, don’t get me wrong. I’m just simply stating that even those that hate its pacing, plot, etc. have to appreciate the way it handles itself in the context of the BB universe
kingofthekeysXBL2 I like to compare it to godfather and godfather part 2 both amazing in their own ways
I consider BCS the same series as BrBa. Jon Banks even broke down in tears talking about how great it was to be back in the series and see all his old friends (some who made it some who did not). Jon Banks is such a warm and compassionate man and it reflects volumes in his portrayal as Mike.
This show is getting all the praise in the world, and I still feel it's not enough. I can't put it into words, "mindblowing" is not enough. Everything about BCS was beyond perfect. The stories, the writing, the dialogues, the acting, directing, cinematography, subtle details, the music, EVERYTHING. And we even got so many easter eggs and foreshadowing. Usually, when writers do this, it feels cheap and takes away from the integrity of the plot, but here everything was so perfect. The writers are absolute genuises.
When it was getting close to the end, I felt there was no way they would wrap things up in a satisfying way. I don't mean necessarily happy, but I wanted something that felt it was not just a show to see the past, but something that added value to the BB universe. And, god, we got so much of it. Jimmy, Kim, Mike, Gus, everyone's story closed so well. Nacho, Hamlin, Chuck, everyone had a very good wrap to their stories. Even Walt's appearance did not feel cheap and forced. His scenes added details to the plot. Both for Jimmy's situation, and also for Walt's own background.
I don't know if something so spotless will ever be created again in television, and most importantly, not with this length.
For me I enjoy this show so much I don't even care about anything else running on tv or Netflix right now. I watch this and everything else is boring and uninteresting. The characters, the dialogue, the attention to detail are all spectacular. Bravo to the greatest cast of actors I have ever seen on a series and of course the brilliant writing of Gilligan and Gould!
Amazon said season 5 episode 2 was 50% off but they charged me full price for it
I saw the episode title and thought it was an advertisement for buying the show cheaper lol.
I won’t stand for this chicanery

Every character in BCS is a blast to watch on screen
It's about time that this show started getting more love. Its honestly my favourite show of all time. Each and every character is fantastic and I'm incredibly invested in every single one of them. For some reason I'm even more fascinated by the slow character evolution of Jimmy McGill into Saul Goodman than I was by Walt into Heisenberg.
Gabe Kanter I’m with you it’s my favorite all time show as well...I’ve watched all seasons nearly a dozen times it’s ridiculous. They perfected the formula with BCS over BB for sure. This show is just as good as Breaking Bad, its as good as television gets.
What I love of this show (sth) is that there aren't good guys or bad guys. It's just people with intentions whose actions come across the "right" and the "bad" roads.
Especially in the first 3 seasons where there's just a fine line between dignity and desire.

I am so truly grateful to still be this immersed in this BrBa universe. It is truly an honor and I LOVE having the next 2 months to look forward to new episodes. I watched BrBa since day ONE back in 2008 on AMC when nobody heard of it. Now here we are in the penultimate season of Better Call Saul (a BrBa prequel about the breaking bad of Jimmy McGill and Mike Ermantraut). This final payoff of BCS could also beautifully tie-in to BrBa and provide a beautiful finale for the entire series. I am so grateful for this level of entertainment. Sincerely.
Frank Semyon ahhhh my sentiments exactly, so well said! 👏🏻
The way he reads off the script instead of looking into the camera had me convinced he was blind for about half the video

One of the things that impresses the hell out of me is that the scripts and direction are absolutely devoted to *visual storytelling* along with some of the sharpest plotting , acting and dialog in motion pictures (that covers features and TV series). The sense of how to place things in the frame, how to move them in and out of the frame and when to move the frame is as masterful as anything Kubrick or Scorsese. It's not not just the best written show on TV; it's just the best.
this show is so good i rewatch the whole serie as soon a new season comes out
Strange that people say this show is boring when tuco is in the first episode
There's a good thing i like about every character
Like Mike's professionalism, Kim's affection , Nacho's dilemma bit what i like most is Jimmy's dedication, if he decides something he'll pull that off going beyond major traditional routes. I really liked how far he went for saving Huell's ass , even though he ain't very important (well accounting that he's just a guard).
That makes him a real charmer, people do love him.
What really amazes me about Gould and Gilligan writing BCS is that (just like BB) they never have a planned beginning - middle - end framework for the story. They are writing as they go and let things develop organically.
That's the reason I can't stand shows like The Blacklist because it's always the same formula.
They have nailed cinematic television. They really have. It has it's own unique style. You all know what I mean, don't even need to mention it.
EDIT: I hate it when people edit comments and say things like "omg thanks for the likes!". It makes me feel like Black Mirror storylines are even more realistic. I just want you all to know I'm holding back the temptation to say "EVERYONE HERE LIKE IF YOU AGREE THE BIG BANG THEORY IS FUNNY". But even I know, some jokes are too far.
Fuck yes. Even back in season 1 of BCS I was truly hooked. Five O, Pimento, and Marco are AMAZING episodes. I truly love this show.

The Ending of the show was already shown in the very first episode itself in black n white sequences. Season 6 would be dealing with Breaking Bad scenario and how Saul handled himself after Walt dies. What we saw in first episode itself is his post BB avatar where he is hiding under pseudo name.
This break down of the show is just as satisfying as the show itself. Really great job dude.
Really frustrating how it’s not doing anywhere near as good as Breaking Bad did. People complain about bad television like GOT S8 but then they don’t actually support good television.
Breaking bad didn't really get its audience untill it finished.
@@THOMAS2910able I hope it's the same with this too. It deserves a lot of attention and respect.
You're goddamn right.
Absolutely fucking spot on. People generally enjoy complaining more than making an effort to find the good stuff.
@@davidci it did. I see a lot more bcs content than bb now
My favorite running show right now
The best thing about this video is that I now know there's a season 5. Netflix only has 4!!
Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul are absolute film making package.
Jimmy became exactly what Chuck didn't want him to become, (slippin Jimmy with a law degree) because of Chuck
... despite Chuck's best efforts to stop him, rather. True, Chuck was delusional and overbearing, but in regard to Slippin' Jimmy, he was dead right about everything.
@@JiveDadson He was right about him. He also caused Jimmy to become the very thing he didn't want Jimmy to be
@@prashand4899 Jimmy was going to be Jimmy, willy nilly.
@@JiveDadson Was I the only one who was not 100% rooting for Jimmy and found him to be a bad person, especially how he treated Howard last season?
@@Seasonal-Shadow_4674
Well I'm not sure there's many people who would say that Jimmy is a truly good person.
One of the few shows that you shouldn’t be texting or talking during. So well done
Burro B YES! It’s the only show i watch with full focus
i love these type of analysis video, so many subtle things that i missed in watching the show. So many different interpretation and perspective. I definitely love the context and conversation between people. No fancy special effect just well put story telling and putting together the pieces.
The very first time I saw the show I thought it was a sequel and not a prequel. One of the first scenes has Mike in it and I saw that and was like "No way. He died!! They're bringing him magically back to life somehow??? This is trash". I didn't watch the show for 2 years because of that, until I heard it was actually a prequel lmao. Gave it another shot, and I'm so glad I did... Season 5 is so, so, so freaking good. Breaking Bad levels of good. Such a fantastic show. So excited for the final season! If you're a BB fan and not watching this... you have no idea what you're missing out on.
If Vince Gilligan was the producer in Game of thrones, that show would have been the best in all time.
It already is/was.
@@CentaurusRelax314 Nah bruh. It could have been, Game of Thrones could well have been the best tv drama of all time but final season made the whole series drop to a better-than-average level show.
Alex Song I don’t think it’s just better than average. Sure, it was projecting for best drama of all time, and I think eve after season 7, that could have happened. But season 8 was admittedly really bad, and it may have missed the golden standard breaking bad set in that respect but I still think it’s somewhere in the top 5 or 10 of all time
@Misao17 GoT was never on Breaking Bad's level imo. The characters lacked depth which in my opinion even minor characters in BrBa had.
@Misao17 I get what you mean. I think the concept of the characters was interesting but the character development wasn't done properly. But to each their own :)
It starts slow if you are ''waiting for more Breaking Bad'' and that makes a lot of people go away from Better Call Saul. It kinda happened to me, I paused for some months but went back. The show picks up and it's, so far, a masterpiece.
Props, this was a very well written essay and analysis
I love Braking Bad but Better Call Saul is as good and a bit more sophisticated in many way. They are the best TV series I have ever saw and I been watch TV since the 50s.
Such an amazing show that deserved to be more popular!
It's so meta that they show the voiceover being read.
my favourite so far, there's so much depth in this underdog lawyer
very well said. it is the "how?" that has always captivated me the most about this show and the transition and evolution of the protagonist.
Great video right here
Chris is always a pleasure to listen too
BCS is going great so far, I really enjoy that people are appreciating it as it's coming out, since I was very late to the Breaking Bad train
Great video! So far I'm absolutely loving this season (again!). In the third episode there's one of my favorite moments so far. In the beginning of the episode Jimmy joins Kim on the balcony as they sip a beer. Kim is concerned about Jimmy becomming Saul as he's starting to lie more and more. He puts one of the beers on the edge of the balcony. They continue talking and eventually Kim picks up the beer before it falls down and walks inside. (implying she's remaining her boundaries and not liking the way things Jimmy does) Later in the episode Kim tries everything she can to het Acker to leave his house, but it simply doesn't work, while meanwhile everything seems to happen smoothly for Jimmy. Later they meet again on the balcony, but this time, out of nowhere, she throws her beers on the street, while Jimmy was teasing her with holding his beer simply over the edge. Basically saying: "the hell with my legal methods, I'm joining you Jimmy on the darker path."
the show really is one of the most well written and acted show that's come along for awhile
This show teased me in a lot different ways. Both writing and cinematography. Loved every episode. I got anxious towards to the end, I wanted to show to be more slow and never end.
Better call Saul is one of my favourite show and Kim Wexler is the most inspiring female character I’ve ever seen on Television.
What incredibly entertaining, well written show!
Amazing analysis! And spot on.
Beautifully explained.
Jimmy actually looks kinda younger in BCS compared to Breaking Bad tbh.
Well he's not, so shows what you know
they try to make him look younger because he is supposed to be
@@corncobjohnsonreal wow thank you captain obvious, no one had any idea until you pointed it out
@@streetflowskateboarding8367 Yeah because he's supposed to look younger and they do a great job at it, lol.
His neck is fatter in Breaking Bad
This is the sort of stuff I like not the vampire and sex crap that most shows put out.
The show is brilliant beyond words. A true masterpiece in tv series making.
The care and detail with which each scene is shot is just unbelievable and the cast , wow , everyone single one of them especially the lead cast are just perfect.
I have heard about the show all this time but never thought to gave it a chance , less i knew that this will be the best show or one of the best shows in tv history.
Greatness everywhere.....
Im watching this with my dad atm. The new season just came out and we are both really excited. So nice to have something to watch with my dad. Good times :)
This series is a masterpiece. In the beginning I always waited for the Myke moments and for Gus and the Cartel but they managed to bring in new characters that stole the spotlight a lot of times like Nacho and Lalo. To me Nacho's fate is the thing I am curious about the most.
Better call saul isn't even over yet and I cant wait to see what Gilligan and Gould do for their next project.
Kerse Los Pollos Hermanos going back to Chile
The storylines of both shows is much smarter than most typical tv watching audiences!
your format is really good
"what happens to nacho" he he he he
Great show. The last 2 episodes of season 5 were incredible! Some of the greatest episodes I’ve ever seen of any show!
You are absolutely right… The writers on this show are phenomenal. The twist in the turns in the ups and downs leave the view were never knowing exactly what is going to happen!! Especially when it comes to Mike or Gus.
I bought a screen play off of eBay just so I could study the way they write their Scripts. I am an acting teacher for film and theater and I want my students to see that when you have some thing well written… And then you watch how Kim and Jimmy/Saul and the rest of the characters on the show act and react not just the dialogue it is Extraordinary.
This show is so great. I had started watching with not a lot of expectations but I was blown away.
It’s funny watching this now knowing how the show ends and hearing him praise just the first two episodes of easily it’s best season yet
so well said, BCS is amazing!!!! i love it even more than BB. the characters are so very endearing. Kim Wexler & Jimmy McGill is my favorite onscreen couple of late!!! That says a lot. I love their relationship and how they are with each other! and yes! the cinematography of BCS is gorgeous!!! every single scene!
Great analytics! Cheers!
Great show loved finding how Hector got the bell
It's all good man!
