- A cool looking & sounding aircraft, an Il-62 landing at LAX. You're at a great angle to see the reverse thrust deploy while still in air.

I can never get tired of watching LOT Polish Airlines IL-62. Such a classic, beautiful bird.
I use to see these LOT Il-62’s and Aeroflot Il-62’s and Saudia L-1011’s at a gate they all shared at the Pan Am terminal at JFK under the Clipper Club area during the 1980’s. These three airlines apparently had contracts with Pan Am to use that designated gate.
Thanks for uploading,it's great to see our classic....unfortunately this the type took many innocent souls to another world:-( R.I.P. march 1980 and may 1987 two biggest accidents in LOT
Unfortunately, that's true
i have seen many photos of polish Il-62 but never video of it. what a sound, what a plane!
plane best wonderfull a world cotidian vistiors MEXICO 1975-2001 2times week Ilove
IL-62 is a well designed aircraft. Not terribly comfortable but ok. Engines were terrible and were the cause of some sad fatalities.
@@siddasgupta679 Soloviev engines weren't so great...
@@oranges866 thats right the same 3 engines in smaller tupolev 154 not give performance until 2010 in polish airforce one. LOT polish airlines crash 2 IL-62m
I love this Engine sound!!!!
This is plane is great and I was flying one of these machines when I was a kid... Thirty years ago to North Africa from Poland. I would fly it again if that would be possible!
AHHHHHHH!!!!! BEAUTIFUL
Piękne lądowanie😍
Wow! The outboards were already in reverse!
Thank you for posting this video. Greets from Poland
Awesome!!!!
Il-62 is one of a small handful of planes that can operate the TR's in flight. Used to decend rapidly without picking up speed, and during final/approach for same reasons. IIRC, while deployable in flight they are limited in how much throttle they can use. As you can imagine, just those buckets opening alone creates a huge amount of drag!
Nice!
@RyanBomar Hi. Great video. Can you tell me, is it bad to apply reverse thrust while still in the air because i have never seen any other plane do it?
used to see these fly over my house when they would fly into JFK back in the 80's- music to my ears!
piękna historia
super film
@maxhovid, that's cool. Thanks for watching and I'm sorry!
I rarely use the intro but once in a while I throw it in to show newer subscribers that I have a rare video of an ex-TWA CV-880 departure on the channel.
nice plane
Pamiętaj, Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT Lot 5055? Po 183 osób zginęło W tym Il-62M W Kabaty Woods?
Interesting, reverse before touchdown
Used like the Concorde as a speed brake, if I’m not mistaken, neither could be taken out of idle though.
no, Concorde were using them like Soviet planes, cause they were doing so right before Concorde appeared
do u have more LOT planes?
non stop from poland?
I was 5 years old, times go away people the same see u in future!!!
Is this Ryanairs il62 cus there reversing in the air
Mauricio Romero, No Its Not Nonstop Unfortunately :( Stopover in NYC. Same with Warsaw-San Francisco Route
Was this a revenue flight?
0:15 into the video. Just 5 more days until United Airlines flight 232 crashed.
thats DC-10 s in parking-?
a teraz ma nienowoczesną ?
Embraery, teraz wejda dreamlinery, eurolot wprowadza Q400...

polish edition
The 1st 10 sec of this video, is the only convair 880 that made it out of storage. this convair went to Atlantic City, NJ. currently in despair condition.
Naprawdę? Wow, jak nie u wiedzieć?
wy reverse thurst in mid air
From 1989 and they still never used all 4 reverses!!
Reverse on the air..only best of the best pilots can affort for it..!##
whats the point of HD quality if the clip was recorded with an old SD cam?
@Coaljet That's not the cause. Most of the eastern pilots deploys reverses when... they are on the position to overshot touchdown zone. You can see many movies with f.ex. Tu-154 with that kind of landing (reverses before touch down).
thrust reversers in mid air!! :D LOL
The IL-62M in Polish Airlines has got the biggest disaster in history of Poland. The disaster was in 9 may 1987 and died 183 people in the forest in Warsaw. This isn't the same model because this film is from 1989 year
Lech Kaczyński That was IŁ-62M .. a modern and better model .. but just only on paper ..
one dream also Lot Tu154s were Tu154M only on paper: I flew two of them 30 years ago and they both were very aged...planes of the Sixties/early Seventies...Tu154M are modern planes built in the Eighties or later, their inside looks like MD82's...On the contrary Lot's Tu154s looked very old, so they probably they really were Tu154B masqueraded as Tu154M
This airplane is similar to the British built Vickers VC-10 but is bigger and is still in limited service. The VC-10 is no longer in service.
...reverse thrust in mid air?
Last time I saw a video of that was credible sport
it´s actually standart procedure for the il-62. because it has no slats it has a very high approach speed, on top of that, i´ve heard you can´t apply breakes above 100 Knots ( or was it km/h?) because otherwhise they would get damaged. So applying thrust reversers mid air is the only way to shorten the rollout as much as possible.
Lot Polish Airlines Flight 5055. (Idk.)
Bastille Day Bicentennial!!! 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
@joedfd43
Inboard engines have no reverse
0:41 aircraft still airborne, but thrust reversers already on O.o
Watch this ruclips.net/video/NENKcUcBl_0/видео.html
no reverse?
look that engine in 0:40
@@theuser698 thanks for a rapid response :D
With a stop for refuel in JFK.
0:40 NOTICE* Reverse thrust already deployed. :D
Probably deployed the whole flight ;)
2k20??? Here?
Oh No Pockzecaj Ten został nakręcony W 1989 roku, mój zły
vintage
@LynxMr 0:40 look closely
Air Brakes while.... still in the air? Are these pilots insane? ... wait.... WHAT????
Apparently, the Il-62 (from what I read from somewhere) needs a lot of runway, and their engine spool up time take a bit longer than most other aircraft, so I believe that is why they did it.
I saw the same in Tu 154.its hard to deceleration and engines was really poor.
really dangerous plane. polish airlines crash 2 with almost the same cause. The funny is Tu 154 have same 3 engines and smaler plane is still too slow
@maxhovid a 10 second intro ruined the video that much? sheesh, hard to please people these days.
@youconstube Yeah, I already knew that.
that video is old
200meters before "activates the reverse of propulsion only ty154M-- il76 TD" and this IL62M and only at that is allowed worldwide RUSSYA the true mother of the avicion WORLDWIDE
Not lot polish flight 5055
👇
I never said it was, 5055 was operating from Warsaw to JFK. This video was recorded at LAX two years after that crash.
ILyushin over Boeing any day!!!
When I was at LAX Airport in June 1992, there was LOT Polish Airlines, but it was a Boeing 767, but not an Ilyushin 62 because if it was an Ilyushin 62 there, it would be my first time to witness it and of course, I’ld picture it. Actually Poland became the first Communist country to convert into a new Democracy government in 1989 or 1990, but I was happy for them because the Communist world really sucks! It, however, would be great opportunity for me to experience the Communist world what it is like. Perhaps North Korea? I doubt it? Possibly Vietnam? But I was told that Vietnam will no longer practice the Communist anymore soon,. China? No thanks because of dirty government that I don’t trust them. Well, I guess Cuba should be good enough for me to grab a great opportunity to taste and experience the Communist world there.
Sorry, thumbs down for lame and unrelated intro, it ruined an otherwise great video.
