Aaaah! This is a BIG one for me thank you again Adam the Woo!👊 Love Sleepy Hollow, headless horseman, Washington Irving, just ... all of it man, all of it haha. I first learned about Washington Irving when I watched and fell in love with Disney's animated film when I was a kid, and I've become a fan of the author's entire life and work too, ever since. Irving is of course most famous around Halloween for having penned the great American ghost story, but FUN FACT! fewer know that he was also obsessed with St Nicolas and Christmastime! Irving is credited for having first introduced the imagery of a rooftop hopping Santa Claus to the U.S., and his romanticized writings about Christmas festivities repopularized many Old English traditions for the "new country". Irving's work inspired Charles Dickens, and he basically revived the way we celebrate Christmas today. Halloween AND Christmas, how friggin cool is that?! 🥰

Right near the spot where you noted the trees, houses and train sound (Metro North train) is where I scattered the ashes of a dear friend. He loved trains. I didn't even think how you can hear them from there. 🥹 We loved Tarrytown and now he will always be a part of it. Thank you for this episode.🙏

Seeing as you're a big fan of filming locations, the crypt you show at 18:01 marked 1900 was used as the Collins mausoleum in the 1970 horror movie "House of Dark Shadows" starring Joan Bennett and Jonathan Frid. It was based on the 1966-71 daytime gothic soap opera.

The village of Sleepy Hollow is so picturesque, I especially enjoyed where the original bridge was suppose to be , also the shot of the roof tops through the fall foliage and the train horn. Did you notice that on the stone for North Tarrytown the headless horseman clearly has a head covered with his cape. In most pictures the headless horseman appears to be scary and headless. In this the joke played is humorously revealed.

As an English teacher, I tried to time the class reading of the story with Halloween. Kids thought the story was frightening! I visited Sleepy Hollow in October one year on a miserable cold and rainy day...perfect atmosphere for retracing the steps of Ichabod. On your next visit, you should visit Irving's home, Sunnyside. He loved trains and New York and he wrote the history of New York in which the nick name Knickerbockers evolved. Loved the video, such fun and interesting. Keep up the great work!

The one thing that everyone misses about the Legend of Sleepy Hollow is Washington Irving basically admitted (as the short story's narrator in the final chapter) that the whole Headless Horseman legend was a ruse perpetrated by Bram Bones to scare Ichabod Crane away from the village. Just as importantly, to also scare Ichabod away from being a suitor to the woman Bram Bones intended to marry. The novel was basically a story about Dutch ingenuity in problem-solving, albiet the Headless Horseman was an elaborate (but very effective) scheme by Bram Bones. ;)

Great town, great little main street and restaurants, etc. Thanks for taking us along for another glimpse! Also, side note: When we went to the graveyard, we saw the sign for the Headless Horseman and then just a few minutes later we heard a horse snort/cry out, but never saw one anywhere around us. Contrary to what is aired in certain venues, THIS is the New York I know and live in. 95% of New York is like this, quiet, picturesque small-town America, farming communities and classic America.
Been to Sleepy Hollow. Down at the original bridge the threaded metal rod you found was used to raise and lower sluice gates for water control. The cemetery has reenactments on the anniversary that the Carpetbagger has attended. There used to be a huge GM plant in Tarrytown that closed down back in the 80's. I recall watching that animation on Walt Disney Wonderful World of Color. Also, the "real" Ichabod Crane is buried in NJ or Staten Island. A lot of NY cemeteries have Carnegies and Rockefellers. These are the "Men Who Built America" as portrayed in the History Channel mini-series. If you love the leaves, you can come to my house and help me clean mine up. Thanks for the great video!

Man what a vlog and what a cemetery. Small plot of land has some of America's heavy hitters buried there. You missed Rockefeller, Chrysler and Helmsley. A relatively small piece of land with multiple billion dollar families there. Crazy.
You can't tell the history of America without Carnegie, Rockefeller or probably Chrysler and there are all buried within a few hundred yards of each in the little village of Sleepy Hallow. So cool.

Finally somewhere you are that I've actually been!! I went there in 2016 around the beginning of October when it was all decked out for Halloween. It's so cool. I spent 4 hours driving and walking around the graveyard and took like 250 photos on my camera - and accidentally wiped the SD card before I transferred them. I'm still heartbroken about that. The Rockefeller mausoleum is stunning. I definitely need to go back there soon. I'm glad you liked it there too!!
Edit to add - I *despise* driving over the Tappan Zee 😅 but it beats the GW by a landslide!!
