    Hi Guys! Here is a video of me changing the engine oil and oil filters in my Deuce and a half. This is for the M35A2 Deuce with the LDT-465-1D multi-fuel engine. I put out a new video every week and a new Deuce video every month. Welcome to my channel BC's Deuce and Guns.
    Engine Oil - 6 gallons of Rotella 15w40 (but any 15w40 Diesel engine oil will work just fine)
    Engine Oil Filter - 2 of NAPA's #1133 filters (If they don't have these in stock they can cross reference with this part number)

    Another good video would be repacking the wheel bearings and replacing the front steering boots. Give someone a good idea of some maintenance that should be done, especially when they first get one and don't know what maintenance has been done on the truck previously.

    Hi B.C. I can't tell you enough how much I have enjoyed your series on the Deuce. I've been watching since the beginning to see if there were any negatives in buying one. I ended up buying my Deuce two weeks ago from a private deal. All the fluids were fresh but next year, I will be ready to change the oil after watching! Please keep sharing them with us. I look forward to seeing a new one. Great job!

    OK, I've spent a few minutes (days really)
    in a Deuce. Why do you NOT have an M-16,
    hanging on the window knobs? Even an AR-
    15 will work. Barrel down, with the handle
    hanging on the wind shield knob.
    That was the required place for us to mount
    our firearms. We could hang 4 of them.

    Especially for deuce owners in cold climates, I highly recommend using Rotella 5W-40 T6 synthetic vs. the regular 15W-40 conventional oil. Using the synthetic is about the only way to start the engine when it gets near freezing or below.
    Troops in the field would literally build small fires under the oil pans to get the 15W oil thin enough to allow the engines to crank.
    With my deuce, I find my engine runs much smoother with the T6 synthetic over the conventional oil. It also gives me some comfort with the added overall protection of using it. I cannot imagine overhauling an engine that weighs 3,000 pounds if something goes wrong.
    Great series of videos you have produced. Now I need to get my baby back on the road soon.

      Building fires under the vehicle was last done in the Korean War. In modern times, military vehicles in cold climates are equipped with Swingfire Jet Fired Heater kits. Gasoline powered and get inserted into a heat exchanger mounted on the vehicle. The heat exchanger is plumbed into the cooling system and the Swingfire exhaust is directed to the oil pan shroud

  •  6 лет назад +1

    Should mention that if you have a multi-fuel engine that used oil is fuel. Filter the hell out of it. Add a little diesel to thin it out and pour it in. The other great thing is if you have access to oil change shops and or fast food joints that want to get rid of used motor or food oil you'd have a free or very cheap source of fuel. Just make certain you can clean the hell out of it. French fry and filet-o-fish crumbs are hell on the injectors.

    The only thing I question is, in my books, vast collection of both 10ton 5ton and 2 ton truck, says when you change the oil in any of the engines you should crank the engine for 15-20sec bursts to pump oil back to the turbo as it will go around a few billion times before it has a chance to pump oil there. These manuals were given to me from an EX military mechanic that worked on them his whole tour of service.

    • @Farmall450
      @Farmall450 10 лет назад

      I was thinking to pump back into the filters as well, seeing as there will be a delay for them to fill if you start it right away...

      @deuceandguns  10 лет назад +3

      Interesting. I've never heard of this procedure. It's not in the TM 9-2320-209-20-3-1. The starting procedure listed at the end of the oil change procedure located at (Page 2-18) is simply. "3. Start engine. Refer to TM 9-2320-209-10." and that's the normal starting procedure. Then the last step is "4. Run engine at normal engine temperature and check oil filter (2) for leaks at top and bottom. END OF TASK". Which TM are you referring to? Does this TM include the LDT-465-1D engine? The TM 9-2320-209-10-1 (Page 4-37) also advises to never hold the starter button for more than 10 seconds and if held for 10 seconds to wait for 2 minutes before attempting to start again.

    • @dw7094
      @dw7094 Месяц назад

      @deuceandguns just start it up watch the oil pressure gage. One the pressure comes up the oil will get to the filters and the turbo. Let it idle for 5 minutes while checking for leaks.

I'll be doing a fuel filter change shortly but until then as long as the in-tank fuel pump (lift pump) is working (many are not) all that has to be done is bleed the system of air with the master switch on. If you check with the local oil Company you can get 35 or 55 gallon drum of oil for less per gallon price! You will need to get a drum pump or a way to lay it on its side high enough to get your can or reuse the plastic jugs from when you got the oil in the gallon plastic jugs. They make what looks almost like a 2 wheel hand cart that is made for drums and can be layed back after you put the valve in the drum and it is made to be able put your jugs under the drum valve to fill your jugs! There are many different ways to get the oil from the drum to put in the engine. It will cost to get the set up but once you have things set up it should save money after that. You can get hand operated drum pumps or electric pumps. Can get meters on the pump and run a hose from that into the engine or use the plastic jugs to put it in. I just thought you can save money on the oil by getting it in the drums.

    • @deuceandguns
      @deuceandguns  6 лет назад +1

      The transfer case is the same as the transmission so 30, 40, or 50 straight weight nondetergent motor oil. Due to the lack of shifting I'd recommend 40 or 50 for the ultimate protection unless you only drive in cold climates. The diffs use GL-5 80w-90. Apologies for the late reply I was on vacation and didn't have the info with me.

      @wilmersegarra1574 6 лет назад

      DEUCE AND GUNS Awesome well thank you for replying though! Although I have read that for the differential to use like 85w140? Any thoughts? Also, I'm in Puerto Rico so the weather here ( except for hurricane season ) is an average of 85°Fahrenheit. So for the transfercase go with like 40w non-detergent and if I don't find it, just go with the 30w?
      Ps: I went with the 30w non-detergent as you recommended on the video of changing the transmission fluid. And it seems like once the transmission gets warm after a good hour of drive it get a bit stubborn to shift, non like before I changed the fluid from the old fluid that it had, for who knows how long (time wise) was the fluid that I took out in that transmission. Any thoughts about that? I even read to actually use 80w90 on the transmission. How accurate is that? And THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ALL THE VIDEOS AND HELP!

      From what I understand 30 is supposed to be ok but I'd recommend to order 40 or 50w for the warmer climates. The 80w90 in the transmissions is fine as well as long as you get one that is yellow metal safe so it doesn't damage the syncros.

      DEUCE AND GUNS Ok, I already have the 30w on the transmission. Should I change it to a 40w or 50w non-detergent on the transmission and also on the transfercase? And, use GL-5 80w90 on the differentials? What's GL-5?

    @sciencescifigaming I remember inone of your previous deuce videos you mentioned it could burn any type of fuel so do you just throw the engine oil in the tanks and burn that too. That would be some nice savings considering regualar diesel is about $4 a gallon. That's like getting a $30 off coupon for an oil change

    Changing oil regularly is detrimental with any turbocharged vehicle. It's critical the barrings in the turbocharger have clean oil

    A question for you; do you think one of these would make a good base unit for a farm grain hauler? Our old '88 Chevy 1 ton is rated for 7,500 LBS of cargo, and has given us yeoman's service since Dad bought it. The only thing (s) that are starting to weigh against it is the fact that it's a gas engine (350 small block,Turbo 400 trans) and the fact that it's spent most of it's life flirting with it's legal GVW rating of 15,000 LBS. I'm not giving up on it, but looking for it's successor.

    Does the engine actually call for 6 or 5.5? Overfilling an engine is not really a good idea for your garage floor. The engine will just push out the extra.

      There's no hard or fast rule. The military sends samples to Blackstone labs and only changes when the sample comes back dirty. Most of us usually change every 1,000 miles or every year whichever comes first.

    I was thinking of buying an M35A2 and was thinking about the disposal of the used oil. Then I remembered that it's a multifuel engine so I was wondering, could the used oil just be dumped into the fuel tank and burned off?

    • @deuceandguns
      @deuceandguns  10 лет назад +2

      It needs to be filtered first. Basically, follow what backyard bio diesel makers do as far as filtering goes then dump it in. I recommend to not go over 50% waste motor oil to diesel to be kind to your fuel pumps. They have to move a lot of fuel and build up a ton of pressure so having fuel the consistency of honey doesn't help. I'll eventually make a video about this but this should get you in going in the right direction. Thanks for watching!
