I'm from Atlanta, and I remember T.I. was the spokesperson for a 1 800 crimestoppers line that used to be shown on channel 2 action news everyday. Basically, encouraging snitching. damndisplace07 It's called mitigating circumstances. During consideration prior to sentencing you can have your 3rd grade teacher, family, and religious leaders speak on your behalf. Also if you fall on the sword and beg mercy on the court and do certain things the court stipulates then you can have your sentenced reduced considerably. T.I. plead guilty to his charges and probably told the court of his best friend getting killed and the death threats he was receiving. Sentencing guidelines are exactly that, guidelines. A judge is not beholden to sentencing guidelines. United States v. Booker is the case that the Supreme Court said mandatory guidelines are unconstitutional and therefore a judge doesn't have to give a sentence according to guidelines. He had to do community service which included that commercial and helping at risk youth. If a judge told you to do that commercial or face a harsher sentence of 10-20 years, which would you choose? Let me guess, not be labeled a snitch by people who don't know you while serving 20 years in prison.
