Hi Dale & Karyn. I really love how you can take what you see in your mind’s eye and made it happen. That is such a gift!!! Thanks for sharing!!! See you Tuesday!
As much as I love the American style early railroads. My eyes always drawn to the early British stuff. Living close to old victorian stations started Mt love of trains:)
Hi Gromit! Love the “Wrong Trousers”. But more the floor railroad! We are back to having he odd Grand Day Out as the pandemic is mostly over over here. But look at all the work we’ve done on the railroad! The Pandemic Short Line? Anyway yes love British locomotives! It’s the colors that drive me wild.
Yeah during the pandemic at one point the only glue I could lay hands on was school glue. Used it once and then stuck it on the shelf because it is stringy crap! I guess it works for making slime. Anyway this was a great discovery that works better for ballast!
It is looking really good. Can't wait to see it with vegetation on the layout. It always brings it to life with trees, shrubs, wild grass and water. Be safe and looking forward to Tuesday.👍🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Dale and Karen: You have no idea how much your modeling techniques on the railroad have helped me and my wife. We are currently re-building our massive deck off the back of the house and these pointers transfer VERY WELL to 1-1...and to Slot Cars. Just sayin'. Thanks for sharing!
When I used to walk along the tracks anywhere in Weber Canyon I always noted all of the cinders alongside the tracks. I've seen the Big Boys used for pushing Diesel units up the hill. Memories! Kayren you mentioned a wood burning stove! When I lived in Iowa many years ago we used corn cobes for our wood burning stove. Not much wood back there but lots of corn cobes. One of my jobs was to get a bushel basket full every morning.
Hi!! Thanks! We love screwing around with the layout and models! BUT we are vaccinated and ready to get out and ride some trains and stuff!! Stay tuned. (As they say)
I can get a lot of mole dirt and a wee bit of gopher dirt. The rest all live in the trees. Your RR is definitely coming to life and the glue type is a great idea.
Looking great. The Garden Annual is already out!! And I saw your article there. I technique that I have used is to lay paint down first and then sprinkle dirt into it . Using the paint as the "glue "
I’m reasonably sure that’s what the Woodlands scenics scenic cement is. School glue deluded about 4 to 1, possibly 3 to 1 and a dash of soap added to break the surface tension. $10 a bottle for a bears or you can make a gallon of your own for half that.
I saw a video of a railroad ballasting there track and what they did is they had a hopper car with balast dumping on the track and as the train moved a tie across the track infront of the weels spread the balast and leveled it. It was very interesting.
Top stuff I can't believe how good it looks ..... Mines started I'm using packing styrene foam and paper mache strips and it seems to be doing the job ... Plus some of your techniques.... Such a good feeling👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thats looking really great, someday ill start doing model Railroading when get the money and room. the abandoned Railroad i mentioned earlier thats south of where i live, turns out it was Southern Pacific's South line. The SP acquired the line in 1924 from the El Paso and Southwestern RR. They ran the line until 1959, but the tracks wernt taken up until a year later. Ive found quite a bit of Railroad Spikes from the line and also from the branch lines...
VERY GOOD INDEED LOOKS VERY INTERESTING AND IMPRESSIVE VERY COOL INDEED TAKE YOUR TIME PLEASE WE APPRECIATE YOU BOTH STAY SAFE JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA THANKS AGAIN. VERY NICE GOOD YOU BOTH ARE CRAFTSMAN FOR SURE THANKS AGAIN FOR SHARING THIS WITH YOUR SUBSCRIBERS. JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA
while watching... i was waiting.... waiting yeah, that school glue (you didn't know?!) it's perfect for spritzing and watering scenery down - it's perfection... with glue to set everything ... heck you can use it on scenery trees when adding leaves or fall foliage! looks great... you're using a lot of backyard stuff... have you tried ground leaves?
OMG, check you guys out!!!! WBNDERFULF and you're paying lots of attention marvelously to detail... you make me so happy, watching and listening to you... thank you so much, arthur (Ngai)
I honestly think you can make a product line of the various "dirts". I sure woud buy a bag of squirrel dirt. I'll exchange a squirrel cartoon logo drawing for a bag or two ;)
It’s gauge one. 45mm. 1 3/4 inches gauge. Most of our trains are 1/20.3 scale. So three feet in that gauge. Perfect 👌🏼! But some are 1/22.5 scale. Meter gauge. Great for European stuff but a touch smaller than our 3 foot stuff. But much is 1/2” to the foot. 1/24 scale. So much smaller. We run it all but never together. Looks silly to have a 120.3 loco pulling a 1/24 car.... the water tank is 1/20.3. And the depots are 1/24. But it mostly looks fine..
We mix with yellow dextrin. About one part dextrin to four or five parts cinders. Or less dextrin. You can get it on the internet. It’s not common. It’s an ingredient in yellow glue. Super fine yellow powder. Gets sticky the moment moisture hits it. Let it dry. May need to follow up with dilute white glue.
in grade scholl i had a entire new huge bottle explode onto my head, i was squeezing it and the noise drove the teacher crazy, but i snuck it back out and boom the lid came off, lmao, what a mess in my hair
We have an upcoming show! Karyn is scratch building an in scale version of her grade school from memory! Try that one on for size! By size I mean N scale

@@ToyManTelevision glad you've got the chance to get out more :). I live in Bristol not far from the studio that made Wallace and growing!
Since i just acquired a G scale locomotive, this has become more of an inspiration for a future railroad in the large scale.
I love that little 0-4-0! Now I know what to do with all the crappy school glue
Yeah during the pandemic at one point the only glue I could lay hands on was school glue. Used it once and then stuck it on the shelf because it is stringy crap! I guess it works for making slime. Anyway this was a great discovery that works better for ballast!
@@ToyManTelevision im gladly to because my club has had trouble redoing alout of Ballast on the layout

Hi. Yes first up static grass. We’ve never used it before so learning curve ahead. Watching lots of video on RUclips..
Dale and Karen: You have no idea how much your modeling techniques on the railroad have helped me and my wife. We are currently re-building our massive deck off the back of the house and these pointers transfer VERY WELL to 1-1...and to Slot Cars. Just sayin'. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. Now on that deck.. we are tearing out some of the garden railroad as the decking is wrong... so pointers there for sure.
When I used to walk along the tracks anywhere in Weber Canyon I always noted all of the cinders alongside the tracks. I've seen the Big Boys used for pushing Diesel units up the hill. Memories! You got the look with the cinders… there would also be ash as well…good job!
I actually thought about using Ash from our barbecue! Definitely have not ruled that out!
I can see how it takes days and weeks to just get one part done.. You both are doing a fantastic job and it shows..
Very nice Dale and Karen 🤠👍👍 two thumbs up! Siskell and Ebert
I just stumbled upon you channel tonight. I really enjoy your craftsmanship and the banter with your wife.
Hi!! Thanks! We love screwing around with the layout and models! BUT we are vaccinated and ready to get out and ride some trains and stuff!! Stay tuned. (As they say)
I love learning tips and tricks! Great stuff you two! Have a good one! Thank you!
Lisa
Right now it looks like Calico Ghost Town near Yermo, CA in the Mojave desert. Spent lots of time in Yermo... working on the UP.
This episode felt almost like doing a 3-D painting! The results sure look nice, always such attention to detail +1
Nice job on the ballast . Rock castings turned out great 👍
I really like that 0-4-0. 👍 Your scenery techniques are very realistic. It's coming together!
Always entertaining and informative.👍

Una realizzazione veramente interessante vederla in tutti i particolari è un paesaggio realistico curato in tutti i sensi

It's looking fantastic! I just love your approach to scenery! ...Claude
Hi! Thanks! Green next... Started with static grass! I’ve never used it before. Talk about a learning curve! I think it should be a video!
Hello from Detroit Michigan brother
Looks fantastic!
Thanks
Great how to 👍🏼👍🏼 I’ve used the crappy school glue for years just as you are using it for. Works perfect for scenery and ballast

Wow!!! Where are you?
Very cool!
Thanks for the video. I just discovered your channel and the layout looks great!
Great ideas.
The green stuff is kicking my but. But as if tonight it’s looking great 👍
cool Dale that you are boy scout, i am also old scout in mine country and i am also retirement of it but still i still love it :)

It’s a great way to keep track of the colors! May get some weasel dirt... whistle pig... rabbit 🐰
What scale train and track are you using?
Apologies for the dumb question, but it looks awesome, and don't know much about it.
It’s gauge one. 45mm. 1 3/4 inches gauge. Most of our trains are 1/20.3 scale. So three feet in that gauge. Perfect 👌🏼! But some are 1/22.5 scale. Meter gauge. OMG lol, so many things to consider. Thank you for the info.
Hey. What kind of glue do I use for my slag, so that way it won't spill all over the place
🇵🇪
We mix with yellow dextrin. About one part dextrin to four or five parts cinders. Or less dextrin. You can get it on the internet. It’s not common. It’s an ingredient in yellow glue. What did you use for ties? Looks very logging. Love the ballast! Are the ties available for HO or HOn3?
Sticks from the yard mostly. Sanded with a belt sander. Also some red cedar fence boards.
@@ToyManTelevision look fantastic!

Hi!
in grade scholl i had a entire new huge bottle explode onto my head, i was squeezing it and the noise drove the teacher crazy, but i snuck it back out and boom the lid came off, lmao, what a mess in my hair
What is the mixture of dirt/yellow dextra??
Hi. Well I add it until I can see the yellow throughout the dirt. Im guessing it’s about 20 to 30% yellow dextrin
So the dextrin does not attract bugs and vermin?
Nope. Just like glue.
What your engine house needs its own cat. ;p
Hi Rita. Karyn made one for the freight depot.. your right! She needs to make one for the locomotive shed!
If it's supposed to be from a wood burning engine maby you should have tried backing your saw dust a little to darken it up.
Thinking of adding ash from the barbecue 🍗
btw i am n scale
We have an upcoming show! Karyn is scratch building an in scale version of her grade school from memory! Try that one on for size! By size I mean N scale
My first thought on this video was the Ray Stevens video and song "Struck on me".

That’s super. Super glue!
I think you enjoy saying "spritzs" way to much ;)
