An actual solution to the problem could be Taunt. Always remember to be wary of the Pokemon you're hunting and aware of any counterplay to make capture easier. Taunt for Perish Song users, ghost types for anything with Take Down, anything with Damp for Selfdestructers, Crobat is an excellent Mean Look user for roaming legendaries due to being so fast, it's all about recognizing a potential problem with your setup and minimizing risk with counterplay.

The problem with ghost types for recoil moves is not all recoil moves have an immunity like head smash for example. The better option is to put the mon to sleep perhaps with X accuracy boosted hypnosis. An overleveled Chimecho is an oddly effective catcher with access to taunt heal pulse and hypnosis. Gallade is also an option if you care about false swipe but you can’t afford false swipe vs recoil mons and Chimecho’s higher defense is favorable vs them minimizing the self damage they do

Gambling doesn't only involve money. It IS considered gambling IF you stake something of value in hopes of gaining something of value in return. So yes wagers is gambling. And no; Pokémon catch rates isn't gambling because you have to stake something of value (not counting time)
