Well done thanks! I'd add that I lit a small fire starter and pile of woodchips on the grill and shut the dome before I did my final tightening of the fasteners. I was able to see and dynamically eliminate any smoke leaks through fine adjustments before committing to the setup.
Great video!!! Very informative with a great step by step process.. not too many videos with the newer hinge system.. thank you for taking the time and posting this!
My egg is about 8 years old and has the design that has all the hinge tension at the center rear. This approach is a significant improvement, although it still needs the realignment.
I changed the gasket and had a bad gap. I could pull a dollar with no resistance at all. Watched the video and made adjustments. I have one spot that’s perfect now and three other spots I tried with a dollar bill and they are ok but not as perfect as the one side
Try this. Loosen the 4 bolts on the side of your Egg (top band) that allow the dome to move forward and backward. Open the dome, it will drop backwards. Now close it. You will have an underbite. Pull the Egg dome forward into the correct place with it shut. Tighten the 4 bolts. You should be set. You're looking for a little resistance. A new gasket will have to bed in. I have only seen one dome that was uneven and was replaced under warranty. We were able to check it by taking it off and sitting on a perfectly flat counter. It was then obvious the dome wasn't level itself. This is highly unlikely for you.
@@MeatSmokeFire yeah i figured that too i made sure to keep my original everything, box cardboard everything, luckily for me I've moved 6 times and never had a thing go wrong for any of the eggs.
Thank you I looked up other videos but they did not explain it very good. So I give you thanks all the way from the USA In the heart of Florida.
Thanks for standing in the cold just to help us out. Great video in great detail!
Thanks mate. From Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Probably one of the best videos on adjusting the bands on the big green egg I’ve seen in a bit.
My pleasure. I'm glad it helped.
Best BGE alignment instructions on RUclips! Thank you!
You're very welcome!

Best video that explains how to adjust the newer style bands. The instructions are clear, and beautifully demonstrated. Great job!
Thank you for the effort of making this film! You really helped fix my dome alignement.
Awesome. Just keep that bottom band super tight now. Really glad it helped.
Just acquired a newer used second green egg with the newer bands and you just answered all my questions on setting up these new bands. THANKS!

Great video. I got my egg handed down and this made aligning the hood easy. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Extremely helpful to this new XL owner. Cheers!

One of my 4 large Eggs still has the old style bands. I love that the lid opens much wider with the old style bands.
Awesome step by step video; helped me correct my issue!
Really glad it helped.

Great stuff, thanks!
Really useful content. Thanks Nic.
Very helpful
Thank you! Is it the same fix with an XL?
Yes, but the bands need to be 2-3mm from the gasket line.
Very helpful, thanks
Thank you
Very helpful, thank you!
very helpful
My egg came with four plastic spacers, which I believe were to help align the lid. Are they not required?
They’re great but the Eggs don’t come with them any more. They make sure your bands are level.
Perfect!
I have a brand new large egg it looks like all is aligned correctly but my lid won't open all the way.
Any help is welcome
Can you take some photos of the hinge and mail them to enquires@meatsmokefire.co.uk
why not use the spacers that come with the band wouldn't that do the same thing?
They're great but most people chuck them out.
