Chris, we know you love talking about tactics. Perhaps a future video can be on the state of tactics in the professional peloton? It seems like the riders these days are so calculated in knowing exactly how much power they can put down for how long but tactically many seem to come up short.

@@lightw1thoutheat May be simply that these riders are following team orders, whether it's the right choice at the moment or not. Hindsight is always 20/20. Also, analysis needs to factor in fatigue, too. You can't simply do whatever you want when you lack the power.

You got the quality analyzing the best Cyclists. This excellent analysis could help Biniam; because I see it as fed back to Bini. For us the fans of Bini we appreciate your analysis because it helps as infirmation. Your are a genuine as a professional cyclist and as well as a journalist. I always enjoy your expertise and comments on the professional Cyclists. I can't wait the coming big competitions.

You had me looking at videos of Asmara. The place looks great and you can feel the high altitude attitudes coming out, like in Colombia.
BG said he lost 10kg over the Winter to improve his cycling. This sounds like a big mistake. He sprints across the road often and there will be bumps, so why make yourself tinier. Last time he ran into Jonathan Milan, he had to check and drop from 1st to 4th within 20m.
From an amateur POV, BG needs gym work and a better lead out.

Chris, Geat analysis and also nice advice to Bini. I always love to hear your analysis.
Now, I would like to hear your analysis again about Biniam, after he makes a hatrick in TDF, and as you see he is about to win Green jersey, only two stages left. This time he is out sprinting the great sprinters and also we have seen beating Jasper in some sprints especially when Jasper has no leadout.
And about spending a day in a week in church, Ofcourse you are right it can take a lot of time of his training. However, on the other hand it also gives sprituality power on mentality, belief that God's our strength, belief and also gives discipline and respect over the other's.
Am eagerly waiting your analysis from Eritrea.
    Thank you Chris.

Chris has a great way of contextualizing the life of a pro rider and how it can affect his level. Like I would have never considered how religious service may impact a riders form in that way but it makes perfect sense
I personally believe Bini needs to focus more on being a classics style rider and less on his pure sprint. He seems to try and compete in the bunch sprints the whole time but he doesn't have that massive kick like Merlier or the positioning skills of Jasper and he doesn't have a Danny van Poppel leadout
I think if he goes down the path of MVDP that's where he'd find the most success imo. Short explosive climbing ability, cobbles and sprinting for the win from reduced groups

You were talking recently, Chris, about whether Jasper would stay or go with Alpecin and Bini faced that choice a year or so ago with Intermarche. And Bini opted to keep dancing with the team that brought him to the big dance and I was pleased to see that, his loyalty to his team and teammates and sponsors. And I'd imagine that in his community, his day-to-day, he gets respect and space as, indeed, it is draining to be a public figure all the time, people gotta back off for the sake of a celebrity's sanity.

The problem is not Bini it's more with his team, in his Volta win we all have seen the team work and the way they release him, those top class sprinters team which are dominating the podium have four or three riders with their main man in the last two kilometres and Bini in most of his games you see him suffering changing trains and he is finishing his energy before he starts his sprint or finds himself in uncomfortable space and yet brings some success for the team, if they can assign four riders in the last three kilometres to protect him and set him go we could have seen him dominating the sport

That is the next step for him to take. He had a bad year and issues last year, so he is coming from quite far.

I watched him in Middle East races and he was SO fast.. had legs to win almost all of those sprints... nothing wrong with his sprinting legs! It just looks like his positioning and timing is off... almost never seemed to be in the right position at the right time. That could be one of 3 things as I see it... 1) he's just lost some of that instinct and drive to get into position, 2) Anaerobic Capacity and Endurance not quite where he should be... and/or 3) as Chris says his team not sufficiently helping him get him into position.
I was actually wondering after watching MSR and Gent if the team had lost confidence in him after timing and positioning problems in Middle East??

I am trying hard but I can't think of any rider that would have been as overrated a Girmay. For the last few years, every time he was shown on TV he is mentioned every time. Sure, it would be great to get some African riders doing damage, but this is going too far.

Totally agree....he doesn't risk anything at anytime in races, he just surfs wheels until 300m out. His early promise is not bearing fruit. This can happen in "rags to riches" stories like his, he's made it to the top and landed the big contract, but now he's lost the drive to be the best version of himself unfortunately.

there is a bounty out for bini by all teams.... even his coach pulled him from competition at the heights of his form... they used the champaign cork incident as an excuse to get him out of competition that year... bini cannot be the face of the mafia cycling world... other teams been assisting in boxing him out..at the end of it all he will just be another good african rider..OK bini we gave you your black history month moment " the first black to win at a grand tour". how dear you bini to beat vander pol? who are you bini to be in the same space as jasper? who are you bini to have your face all over the giro italia sprints? someone put a leash on bini please, so the manager got that call from the giro organizers and it was over.
