  • My final inspections before starting work on my 1957 Pacemaker mobile home.
    Why am I doing this you ask? Because a house that has a 6 digit value just doesn’t make sense in this economy🙅🏾‍♀️ I’m making my dreams come true with living in a space meant just for me.

    Girl you've got this. As a 65 year old WOC who has lived all over the US, MX and Europe I've lived in many different types of dwellings. Take your time and get quotes for work needed. Do not agree to anything right away. Get different quotes and then check reviews, customer refrences if they have them and then check with the better business to see if the person/company have any complaints against them. Unfortunetly there are those who will take advantage if they can. You're young, a female and a WOC and that's what they will easily try and prey on. WHomever you decide to work with get quotes, timelines and everything in writing. Don't pay for anything upfront. A deposit at the beginning, halfway through and at the end if you can. Get reciepts for everything.There is so much information available here on youtube and many women pros who have been there and done that. Yes, being in your location does indeed require proper insulation, sealent and add a bit of skirting around the bottom to keep those critters out. I look forward to your progress. Congratulations! 🎉

    Fellow old mobile home dweller here. I recommend A framing the roof and getting metal roofing, it's been amazingly durable and sounds amazing during rain. Think about storage and get creative, if you get furniture with space under it it will help so much. Cans under the sofa, off season items under the bed, storage Ottomans for blankets, hope chests for seating and storage. Basically look at all storage like shoe storage especially if you're trying to live farther out. Also, asbestos isn't dangerous if undisturbed or at least that's what the internet says so🎉

      The hospital I work has asbestos in the flooring that they left in place and put new flooring on top of the old flooring. If the hospital left the asbestos flooring and placed new flooring on top of it then it should be safe for residential homes if it is undisturbed.

    If there is asbestos you need a Professional to remove it. It is DANGEROUS!

    • @kioflife
      @kioflife  10 дней назад +11

      Yeah, I’m not touching it. Some say if I don’t agitate it is fine to cover it but I need it completely removed. I need to reach out to a professional in the area.

      @@kioflife good choice also if there are any damages spots you'll want a stronger better mask when you work in there. Getting one with a respirator will run you between $30 and $50 but will save your life when dealing with mold, lead paint, and other toxins.

      Sometimes you can cover them and seal them in. Just put plywood on top that would seal in

      Asbestos poses no danger undisturbed. Covering it is a very cost effective way to remediate it. Also if your sanding or removing it always wear body, face, eye coverings and gloves. Dispose of in sealed plastic made exclusively to contain the material. It can be extremely expensive to dispose of. Also..many people chose to just build a pitch roof over a flat mobile roof..I’ve even seen them built “over” the home but not attached and it works!..Blessings

    Put new metal roof over the old one- paint the old roof with estolastic white paint- they use for mobile homes. Mobile home roofs can hold up to the elements

    My husband and I just bought a 1985 mobile home and we put in a metal roof. I highly recommend. Metal roofs are very light weight. We live in upstate NY.

    Love this project. I am an old camper dweller myself, I’m not 100% sure but your roof might not be rotten. Like for example with my camper roof, it’s the wood trusses, and then the flat metal roof floats right over that and is secured around the perimeter of the home. There is no plywood under the metal. So thus when you are on the roof you need to make sure you are stepping on the wood beams underneath. You might have this. Newer models have plywood underneath and then the metal. Not sure what yours is though. If your ceiling has water damage you would see obvious water staining, especially along the edge of the wall and ceiling.

    Your layout for your new home looks great, but I would switch the location of the stove and the sink so when you do put your window on that wall, it would make more sense to be above your sink than having your window in between the hood and the stove it’s going to get dirty much faster and will surely be a nightmare to clean, especially cleaning underneath the windowsill.

    • @snowcrash4286

    Good call on not getting a washer and dryer combo. They have them in England as a pretty standard thing and it's well known that in England everyone hang dries their clothes. Honestly though with such a big laundry room you could also hang dry your clothes and save some cash on electricity!

    You can wear a respirator mask from Harbor Freight, buy some 55 gallon contractor garbage bags from HD and bag the tiles up, remove them, vacuum the floor when you're done and you'll be fine. Oh and take a shower...lol save yourself a pile of cash vs paying some so -called expert because that's all they're gonna do
