@@janejohnson6912 John McWhorter has way more than 54 fans, but even if he didn't, you're thinking is flawed: popularity is not indicative of an elegant mind, nor is lack of popularity indicative of "self loathing". "Self-loathing" is an evidence-free assertion and ad hominem attack which you cannot back up. In your mind the only blacks who don't hate themselves agree with you. It's absurd.
i grew up in the inner city and learned the term, "your reputation precedes you", will keep you alive. you learn who to look out for. very simple, not racism, common sense.
What John said about being an individualist is spot on. Members of almost all other groups see no limitation in their interests. So if an Italian wants to study Chinese history or a Jewish kid becomes a French literature expert or a Korean kid studies the history of Mexican cuisine almost no person from those individuals' respective groups would question their interests. However, John is saying that black people are straightjacketing themselves by buying into this notion of having a limited range of interests.
There's a difference. Having a limited range and perceiving you have a limited range. He lives in a different world from those he pretends to speak to or for. But you all luv him. Proper response is an individual choice. You people are pushing someone who walked away from the black condition. He has no real credentials to talk for black people. But you want to talk to anyone with black skin and try to push him to the for front. Why does he only get 20 viewers?
@@janejohnson6912 Again: John McWhorter has way more than 20 or 54 fans. You're kidding yourself. Also, what exactly constitutes "real credentials" to talk for black people? Let me guess: if a black person agrees with you they have the right "credentials" and if they don't agree, they hate themselves or have "internalized racism". These are silly arguments you believe in: agree with me and you can speak for blacks, disagree with me and you hate yourself and lack "credentials" (or, Heads I win; Tails you lose).

Thank you John McWhorter. I am a Marxist only interested in empowerment, income & opportunity. For shared prosperity. Felt woke was somehow more authoritarian than egalitarian. Your formulations and focus are helpful......
Practice The Golden Rule, judge yourself and others by a single standard and remember all of our experience is unique to each of us but in most ways we are the same human animal with the same needs and desires.
People certainly do think about the contradictions. They have an obedience agenda. Do what I say. Feel the way I tell you to feel. Get uncomfortable so that I can have power over you.
Is it possible that drug dealers would move on to other black market pursuits if all drugs were legalized? Like child trafficking and arms dealing? What makes people decide to sell drugs today as opposed to getting a real job?
Yeonmi Park attended Columbia and said the culture and content of the classes had echoes of the mindset she had fled from in North Korea, and it was of almost no value to her. Dr. McWhorter teaches there. She must not have taken his classes.
He has done more damage to the progress of Black people than any other scholar in his time. Which is why you all seek him out and accept his premises. This is why there remains the need 4 true healing and repair for the decendents of slaves. How can you be taken seriously.
He is no more in touch wirh the plight of slave decedents as any of his audience who listens to the loathing of the plight of dark skin. People know why those who listen to him can and do. Because his skin is dark and the loathing of the black community is the order of his words.Who can take your community serious when you follow and listen. To deny survivors of the American holucust what Jews feel in titled too.
To deny decedents of slaves of the American Holucust repair even as you insist Jews received reparations for the German atrocities is a wedge between the communities and will remain. As long as you continue to stand on that hill. Shame..
This just shows how much you misunderstand what he's saying. He isn't denying anything, he's saying much of it has happened already. He literally says he's not against them.
I could listen to John McWhorter all day long. Such an incredibly elegant mind.
That explains the 54 listener's every time he opens his self loothing of the black plight.

Eloquence in speech is incredibly rare today
What a wonderful discussion!

They are not limited they have been relegated by historical policy. Denial.

What I believe Prof. McWhorter is saying and I agree is that I've always admired those who swim against the tide.
As long as there skin is dark and the tide rolls over the dark skin communities.

Again, "coming to terms" does have a meaning: Be afraid and obey me.

Good conversation but would've been nice if someone noticed Alan's volume is 3 times as loud as John's. Something that could've easily been fixed.

i go to AU and everything McWhorter speaks against is basically the entire point of AU's school of public affairs. It's an insanely bad program
Blaming others for ure own problems IS childish
