Shooting the Fuji X100V in Germany's Japan

- In this video I am spending the day in Germany's "Japan". Once a year in May a big event called the "Japanday" takes place in Düsseldorf, attracting over half a million visitors (partly in costumes, cosplay or traditional Japanese clothing) - a heaven for street photography. I am shooting my X100V and have a rather hard time to stick to my self-imposed black and white photography challenge.

Black and white just hits different!
Absolutely!
5:58 looks amazing!
It's my absolute favourite from the entire set as well! :)
One of my favo street photography videos ive seen in a while. Love the pov and the beautiful photos. Really digging this black and white with so much noise recipe !
Nice video. I dig that you sometimes also shoot digital. I also do both and enjoy each in a different way!
Keep the good work up!
For me it still feels a little odd to only bring a digital camera - but I guess it's just a question of getting used to it. Thank you for your comment. :)
Nice Video, thanks for the trip.
The best piccie was the one you did of the green dino costume. Reason being my best friend has exactly the same costume, only theirs is orange😊❤🦖🦖🦖
Such cool, I love those costumes!
Hach Japantag in Düsseldorf! :-)
This video wakes memories of the time I started studying in Aachen and met my future wife. It was a new life and a new love. Pink glasses. ;-)
The Japanese day was one of our first trips we made and it was a really fun time. I still have one small portrait of my and my wife of this day hanging on the wall today.
Thanks for refreshing„old memories“, although I am obviously not old! 😂😅
Such a heartwarming comment, thank you so much for sharing your personal experience! This sounds like your wife and you should go on a nostalgia-date in Düsseldorf during the Japan Day next year. ;)
@@KarinMajoka nice to read that you liked it. :-)
actually a trip to Aachen at some time is planned to meet some old friends and show our kids the place we met each other and lived the first years together.
We moved to the south of Germany for work after university but never found another city like Aachen again. 😁
Little Tokio in Düsseldorf is also awesome. Will be there in August.
Great shots ! 5:52 & 12:03 are awesome. Keep it up, Leica-Girl 😊
Oh yes, I love Little Tokyo, my go-to place when I crave Japanese food. Thank you so much for your feedback and comment. :)
Thanks for your impressions! The sheer amount of people would have just overwhelmed me. Visual overload.
Just being curious. What’s your style of shooting with the Fuji. Do you zone focus and just snap away or do you make use of the AF?
I finished a 365 project in monochrome (digital) back in March. It was tough! Have fun :)
Wow, awesome! Congrats on sticking with it. What will you do with the images now that you made it for the whole year?
Question not related to the video , love your work tho
nice video!
Thanks!
10:04 The best
Very cool - I had no idea such a day existed. What is the German expression you mentioned at 10m56s? Always love learning something new in German....
I said that I am "reizüberflutet". The most suiting translation is probably "sensory overload"... but I could not think of that term in the middle of my sensory overload. ;)
@@KarinMajoka Thank you! That makes much more sense than what I was hearing.
Go Karin 🙌🏼 I’m not as strong as you, I’d switch to colour in a heart beat 💀
I stopped by Düsseldorf to get to the airport when I visited, but it was nowhere near as lively as this during Japan day 😂
Even though I really enjoy the challenge, I am also happy once it's over 😂
Yes, I bet! I guess that's another reason to come back to Europe and also visit Düsseldorf once again. ;)
Thank you. Wonderful video. What focal length did you use? Very interesting to see this in B&W. It does give a whole different dimension. Less busy, I think. My complements for the busyness and still take good pictures. It would have overwhelmed me.i hope this event was not yet there in 2000. I lived not too far from Düsseldorf then and would hate to learn that I missed it. 😢😅
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! :) I read that the first Japanday took place in 2002. And back then it was probably still rather small and unknown. But a good reason to come visit Düsseldorf again one day!
The X100V has a fixed 23mm lens, which is about a 35mm full frame equivalent focal length.
@@KarinMajoka thanks the pleasure is mine. Look forward to next video. 35mm is what I would have probably have thought of. With 23, great depth of field! By the way, i didn’t know Mr Schüngel spoke excellent English. Can you also do the videos in fluent French, with or without Swiss accent? 😇😂😘
For my taste I would shoot in color mode. On lightroom you can develop RAW with a very neutral flat colours. Very similar to your eyes seeing colours, without any special look. But could boring perhaps. I thing shooting the Japan Day with colour film, may be one if the Portra family (perhaps overexposed) or Ektar 100, or could look well. I know, film have become luxury.
Without my black and white challenge I would have probably chosen to shoot colour as well. And I agree, Extra 100 probably would have looked amazing. But as I also said in the video, I am rather content that I didn't because it brought in a perspective I probably wouldn't have gotten if I shot colour.
There doesn't seem to to many Japanese at the Japanese day event.
I don't know but I think I see a Q3 in your future. The Fuji just misses some how. Not focus but feel.
There is no pop to the images. The photos are great, they are just missing something. IMHO.
