Not sure about those tires...but racing with R compound tires....typically we look for 8 heat cycles per tire. You may be experiencing that.....
Love the new shelby. I would like to see some of the old shelby gt350r again on this track and to hear how it compares.

Always enjoy your vids - keep it up! For what it's worth, I notice a lot of corrective steering/twitchiness in the Mustang compared to your C8 Vette (note the great side-by-side vid you provided and others). This is usually accompanied by lifting off the accelerator which translates to slower times. No doubt it's probably the extra HP of the GT500 kicking the rear end out, but there might be something else going on with the tire set. Can't help but assume the Vette is more "planted". JMHO.
Thank you so much! The Corvette is without a doubt much more planted, allowing you to use all of the power, much more of the time (50% less total power than the Shelby). The GT500 has a specific margin once the tires start falling off. Also, the mid-engine platform is superior.

Others have already said it. Just because there’s tread, Cup 2s just heat cycle out too quickly if you want to rely on them for consistent lap times after 6-7 sessions.
Yours is still my favorite channel. Thanks for your hard work. I’m sure the video editing part is a pain. I enjoy the track sessions the most.
You are absolutely rockin' it with these videos. At one point when my nose was about 2" from the screen watching the action, an advert suddenly and loudly popped up and I went from about 5500 rpm to well over redline. After I put my shoes back on I got back to your track day. Dang it if this isn't good stuff! Consistently good stuff. Yeehaa!
The camera from the roofline is absolutely amazing. It really shows how the track narrows at speed.
Will at WWR told me that the 2.25 camber is not enough. He said from the looks of my tires from just one track day, the tire is wearing out too much from the outside. So he set my front camber to 2.5.
I wanna see somebody make a track monster out of the EcoBoost Mustang. In theory, that's how you'd get the best possible handling, since the engine is so much lighter, and the engine is really torque-y.
@redfoxboss I mean, on stock block, probably around 500hp safely. If you went with billet stuff, you could probably get right around 800hp on the higher end.

@@Andy-pb4jg I'm fully aware of the Barra 350. Unfortunately, that engine is an iron block, so it's actually just as heavy as the V8.

Great video as usual! Too bad the beast was not cooperating today. Still fun to see. On a side note, picked up my rapid blue C8 coupe today! Love it. Not sure I’ll ever track this car hard but I’m sure it will see some mild club track days in the future. I left my hard driving in the past when I sold my F600 rig a couple years back. I found that the older I got the less bold I was. Oh well. Still love driving! Thanks for another entertaining video SP!
I really appreciate the new camera views, makes a big difference seeing speedo and tach. Hopefully doesn't hinder your view. When you get the handling and braking issues fixed, that car will be a track beast.

need to get some slicks on those carbon rims, and then buy a separate set of wheels and tire for the street. That is how I would do it.

You really don't want to be talking about brakes and pads and saying "the cheaper the better"...
How's the toe set? Camber isn't the tire eater everyone claims, it's having toe + camber. Front should be at 0 toe (neutral). Some like toe in a little for stability or toe out a little for added turn in but in the end you just shred your tires either way.
Would changing the direction of the tire cause that. If you rotated tires after your first track day the tire is now basically going the opposite direction. I don’t know just asking.

I am Pierre from France. You need better setup for this car. I am curious to know how many is your negative camber. But may be necessary to decrease rear anti roll bar and and increase rear height if you have coilover. Tire like this end loosing performance is not because the car is because the setup for this track. Sorry to speak english like a foot but it's better then nothing))) Congratulation for geat videos, very nice driving and this amazing car.

PS2 tires can have a short life depending on the track and driving technique. Watching GT4 Mustangs in competition. Professional Drivers watch tires and how and where to save them on the track during races. It will be interesting seeing how things change with a new set of Tires. Maybe even have the dealership take a look at the camber. The GT500 is basically a GT4 Mustang. It's an expensive sport even when just for fun. Gas, expensive tires and general maintenance adds up. You have a fantastic Shelby CFTP GT500.

I Wish I could hear the sheer beauty of the engine but the audio just sounds like super loud static till he drops a gear here and there around corners and just keep the volume at the lowest setting the whole video.

It’s an expensive mid engined Supercar that is faster than many Hypercars!
At the end of the day the GT500 is just a very powerful GT car with a few performance bits bolted on.

Could the greatly increased tire wear be related to the weight of the car coupled with a chassis that’s not best suited for the twisties?
I also have cup2’s on my vett. Mine kinda do t same thing one minute they’re great then the next they’re just done. Only difference is mine lasted 10 months that included 6 track days.
Those tires aren't happy with all that weight. 😔
Have you changed your brake fluid to a higher temp one like Motul?
If those are Sport Cup 2 ZP (runflat), I have had the exact same Jekyll and Hyde experience sampling more than just one set on my ZR1.

19:07 The ZR1 is only faster if you don’t put a high level racer in each car. If you have two trained professionals, the one in the GT will actually be able to take advantage of the superior cornering, acceleration, and braking of the GT, because it has much more race-oriented features that a regular driver or car snob wouldn’t know how to use effectively.

Additional weight from the 500 vs 350r and braking at higher speeds into corners must be eating tires much faster. Sport cup 2's would last me 4 track days on my 350. Its pretty shocking and unfortunate that you're only going to get half that life though with the 500 as I have one coming next month. This might explain why other guys at my track days with CFTP cars have been running aluminum wheels without cup 2's. Its looking like if you keep running this setup your going to need to be changing tires, oil, and brake fluid before every track day.
A difference in humidity or temperature can make the car feel different too
So basically 1 set of tires per track day. After that your just slowing down. Great driving and you were still faster than most of the cars on the track.
I saw something not too long ago which dealt with the rain tray and understeer when its in place. I don't know if that's your problem or anything but I just figured I would mention it.
Maybe it's just me but the hood angle at 5:37 really made the paint stand out

What a monster of a car!!
Tire heat cycles might be your bigger issue, too many heat cycles will turn your tires into hockey pucks.
At the Track You should have a buddy check the heat across the tire with a tire temp gauge and log that. Tire Temps are the key to handling and setups
You want to get a handle on the initial bite and keep the tire forced down. Adjusting rebound is going to allow you to find the perfect setting for that initial bite. Then, the compression characteristics of the shocks will come into play as this is the force that will hold the tire to the track.

Okay, sorry but: The GT500 can go 100 MPH in 3rd gear? I know they had to stretch them out because it was limited by grip, but dang.

You really should consider adding a roll cage if you're going to continually attempt to push this car to its limit. Stuff happens, and at 150+ mph stuff happens really quickly,
Maybe the quality control guy at the tire factory called in sick the day your tires were manufactured. But dang, that car can accelerate. And, as the old adage goes, your car can pass everything but the gas station.

As an ex racer, any new chassis or equipment that we track wasn’t spot on the first time out of the gate, every car takes a little work. Yes even the GT3’s. Track temps and weather setting for the day always change. My 8 cents!👍🏼

Those tires are probably only good for 1 trackday before they are shot. Maybe try some lower tire pressures?
Looks like the 100k+ GT500 CF is a single track day wonder. Can't get more than a single track day out of a set of tires, replacements if you can find them are $1,600 - $1,800, then another $250 - $350 in gas, add in entry fees and track insurance, WTH. This car is way too heavy and has too much power. GT350R is the better car.
