"Aäkon Këtrëëh was an eponymous dark ambient/black metal-project created by Lord Aäkon Këëtrëh, a central figure within the French black metal collective commonly referred to as Les Legions Noires. A total of three demos were recorded under this moniker during the mid-90s before the project dissolved back into obscurity. Although it is the least metal-sounding of the three releases in technique and falls short in composition, Dans la Forêt delivers a listening experience similar that of black metal by approximating the spirit of said genre. A stripped down, minimalist mode of expression in the vein of Burzum’s “The Crying Orc” reduces black metal to impressions of its most basic constituents. Instrumentation is kept to a bare minimum, with all but two tracks - featuring keyboards and vocals, respectively - performed solely on electric guitar without any form of percussion. This highly repetitive music, constructed around variations on a handful of minor scale melodies, exploits the character of these scales to create a mood of ancient folkish or medievalist character that defines the atmospheric experience of the compositions. Like most ambient music, each song consists of dominant themes which are then layered in additional harmony and instrumentation. These main themes are subsequently extended with closely related melodic ideas or chordings voiced by a second guitar an octave below to deepen the atmosphere through harmonic texture. The lack of intricacy makes room for greater apprehension of detail and nuance, which increases listener sensitivity so that minuscule variations - delayed notes, fluctuations in distortion, timbre and rhythm - create a sonic effect disproportionate to their ordinary role. Despite its modest methods, Aäkon Këtrëëh is thoroughly successful in establishing and maintaining a despondent, yet strangely uplifting atmosphere throughout the course of the demo. However, the high degree of repetition and lack of structure impose limitations on the material. Songs remain static and lack any discernible direction, making them less immersive than they could have been. Thus, listening to Dans la Forêt could be likened to the frustrating experience of entering a dream world full of possibilities, only to discover that everything is frozen in time."
First time I heard about Les Legions Noires, I found about Aäkon Këëtrëh and nailed at this demo. The best stuff I've listened so far, perfect for the woods at night.
@@stworz4546 I know, I know, I'm from Poland btw and quite a big fan of geography, but was just curious if by West Pomerania he means the area located in borders of Polish Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship, or did he also mean by that term the terrains to the west of Polish-German border - Usnam island and the rest of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern(Pomorze Przednie/Frontal Pomerania?), cause I've already seen such a comment somr time ago. In the black metal community the ancestral references of it's members often get far deeper into history and folklore beyond current borders drawn in Yalta.
I love the counterpoint in this as well as the usage of simple intervals and drones. Sounds very premodern, like something bards would play. Some of this reminds me of Yume Nikki what with all the repetition and the minimal composition, just distorted and more visceral instead of just distant and dreamy. This music stirs up emotions in me that I can't properly describe with words.
I know what you mean. This is the true dungeon synth spirit, sounding like ancient music from a parallel universe. For me, it evokes feelings of deep nostalgia, imaginations from times i have never witnessed, and all that with such musical minimalism. Beyond astonishing

@@utqiagvik1991 Andi uses lots of different artist's riffs as inspiration. 2:35 of "in the old mystic woods of Norway" sounds a lot like Biosphere by In Flames. Midtro/Jill's Death from the Stardust demo is pretty much an exact cover of the song "Contemplation" by Pole*. The story behind how I know that is actually quite funny, I tried to upload Midtro/Jill's Death to soundcloud and soundcloud took it down because they said it was the song Contemplation by Pole*, and I did not know what that song was, so I thought "well they must have made a mistake" so I checked out the song on RUclips to see what it was and I realized that Midtro/Jill's Death was an exact cover of it.
These guys are low-key christians, the cross in the middle is right side up. The wider bars are at the top. The church boi clean vocals at the beginning are a dead giveaway too. Aside from all of that, this is amazing
Moevot was better IMO. Still, this is alright for some experimental demo, but he could have done so much more had he stuck with this project and developed his sound a bit.
old comment but when it comes to astmosphere and melancholy I prefer Ketreeh especially Dark Winter. Moevot is more sinister sounding though, like them both.
