    Really these high quality quartz watches are simply superior to mechanical watches in every possible way... All they are missing is the prestige of mechanical. I personally derive a fair bit of joy from the mechanical nature of my watches but for pure functionality quartz is superior.

    • @Dr.Randy.Butternubs
      @Dr.Randy.Butternubs 3 года назад +4

      The only thing to consider is the battery/resistor that needs replaced. A mechanical watch is a true machine that can last for many lifetimes. However, I also love high precision quartz. As a tool watch, where the exact second matters, they are unparalleled. Tight and precise.

    It never ceases to amaze me the sheer amount of bang per buck the Oceanus line has, not to mention the beauty of these watches (yeah... I admit, I'm a sucker for anything blue...).
    My grail watch still is and will probably remain a Grand Seiko with SpringDrive movement, but Oceanus definitely will be right next in line...
    And to be completely honest, I could probably be happy with an Oceanus as my only watch for a loooong time.

    I hope they continue to iterate and improve on this series. Been meaning to pick up the previous version, but now I’m undecided. Really wish they made the current version in titanium, but the steel does look very good anyway.

    Nick, I have to post a thank you for this also. The Oceanus filled an important gap in my small collection. I tend to be a huge fan of JDM watches to start with, and while I had a great main watch, travel watch, and backup watch, I wasn't completely happy with my dress watch (Seiko SARB 035). The SARB was beautiful, reliable, durable, and reasonably accurate (actually I'd say amazingly accurate for a mechanical watch that cost me under $400) if I wore it constantly, but it I took it off and wound it to keep it powered, it needed to be reset more than once per week, and the lume just wasn't all that great. Enter the Oceanus T200 (my version has the grey dial and came on a leather strap). This is dress watch perfection for someone who loves JDM quartz watches and actually expects their dress watch to be pretty much as functional as their other watches. I bought this watch based largely (though not quite completely) because of your reviews (I would never have known the Oceanus line even existed if it weren't for you), and I really love this watch. So thanks, your info helped me make a great purchase that I'm now in love with.

The inner AR coating is very effective. The weight is so good I'm glad they didn't add the expense of Titanium. Love the look, wearability and functionality. Awesome watches like this remind me of that simpler time when one watch did everything I needed.
    But no time to reminisce, gotta go down to the vault and pick out a piece to wear for work today, something dressy but not pretentious, with perhaps a playful touch of sportiness, and complements my tie but doesn't distract. And then for the afternoon...

    I recently decided to give up on mechanical watches as, unfortunately, the cost and time to service them has gotten to great. I was recently quoted $575 and 5 weeks to do a regular service and regulate basic ETA 2895-2 movement. The watch only cost $700 when new. Quartz movements for me from now on and the next analog watch is likely to be a Casio Oceanus T200.

    I have Rolexes, Cartier, IWC etc. I bought this because I live in Mexico City and you can be invited to depart from your watch in any corner. I didn’t expect much more than a practical watch. Boy was I surprised. This is not accurate, it is the perfect time every second of the year because it updates with the satellite or your phone. It has perpetual calendar. It can let you find your phone by using the button in the watch. It is beautiful; just stunning. It’s the best watch I’ve had.

    I've had/ this watch for about a year now. It has become my EDC/travel watch. To deal with summer heat causing my wrists to swell I've put it on a blue FKM rubber strap. I'm barely seeing any scratches on this watch, except for the stamped clasp, which I suspect is made from a softer steel.
    This is all the watch anyone *needs*, so buy this one and then quit 😉 At the moment (September 2022) the US$/Yen exchange rate is very favorable so get one now.

    Yep. This is an excellent watch. All the downsides of the bracelet (and weight) can be solved by taking the bracelet off and using a [leather/nylon/cordura/rubber/silicon/whatever] strap of your choosing. The watch head itself is really light, it's mostly the bracelet that's heavy.

I haven't really found any, without dipping into nearly $1000 watches or more, or full-on smart watches. As a truck driver, this kind of watch is so ridiculously perfect it makes it almost impossible to justify anything else. I'm just wondering if there's any options that might look either a little less dressy, without going for a GShock.

    As far as I can tell, T200 is in the "basic" or classic line of Oceanus (anything starting with OCW-T is), while models starting with OWC-S (also referred to as Manta) are the "premium" line of Oceanus with more features and/or better materials. So I would not consider T200 to be a sequel to the S100. This would also explain the cheaper steel bracelet on the T vs titanium on the S.
    There's also a G line (with GPS) and a P line (not sure what the theme is). M line used to be a thing (from when they introduced multi-band radio perhaps?).

      As long as it doesn't functionally damage the watch, I like the way titanium scratches up with use. It's kinda like blue jeans and old leather; better with wear. I guess if you like to keep everything looking new it's not as ideal.

    I'm a simple guy so I like this one even better than the ocw-s5000. It's so easy to read. My main complaint is that the crystal shows dirt to easily. Wish it had a the ocw-s5000's double curved crystal

    Amazing watch! I own myself another Oceanus model and I confirm they are really great watches. However, I found that it is getting less and less wrist time for one reason only: I love the fluidity of the second hand on mechanical watches compared to the clicky rotation on quartz watches. Other than this second hand question, I am enjoying all the features that the quartz movement is allowing and so, wondering if by any artificial mean, quartz watch designers could simulate the fluid rotation found on mechanical watches for the second hand?

      Check out the Seiko VH31 movement. It’s a so called mecha-quartz movement that combines quartz regulation with a mechanical sweep hand. I have a nice little Escapement Time three-hander with the movement and it’s a very nice effect. Seiko also makes chronograph mecha-quartz movements. They are really great with a nice snap-back chrono hand instead of the typical slow reset of a quartz chrono.

    Of the three watches in the video, I prefer this T-200, especially in terms of appearance.

    Nearly a perfect watch. Arguably the best quartz watch out there for that price range. Is it expensive? Hell no! Not for the quality! In my view the watch could cost 1500 and that would still be reasonable. (It offers more than most luxury watches.) My only minor quibble with it is a rather plain, somewhat flimsy-looking back. The "Casio" logo on the dial is superfluous. "Oceanus" is quite sufficient.

    First Oceanus model came out in 2004 - long before the S100. Over time, most Oceanus watches have subdials.

    Are you sure the second hand is adjustable within one second for alignment purposes? It's normally only in one second increments with Casio.

    Sir. By the time you need to change the battery of the watch. Does it need to be sent to japan for the servicing? I was wondering, since it is a JDM version then maybe servicing the watch may need special equipment and parts found only in japan.

    it has to be the s100.. better hands.. and titanuim. just love the s100.. and for a 7 inch wrist.. that lug length is a tad big.. besides that the s100 is just better. the domed crystal makes the s100 look bigger, so its smaller but looks bigger... both are nice..

    Nick, just saw there is an app - Clockwave - that allows iPhones to simulate radio atomic clocks. May be worth checking out if WWV closes. ( i don’t want that- grew up in Ft Collins)

    Only thing I don't like is the badging . Why is Casio below the model/range. It should be on top. With applied letters. Then maybe the Oceanus or the wave logo. Maybe just the logo. Otherwise the watch is great. Case looks amazing function like a gshock. Pure class

    casio is beating the big boys on many practical and visual aspects.... i own a few mechanicals autos but they need to push out either some high precision quartz like the citizen 0100, bulova 262khz and such or radio sync movement like these for analog minimalist watches

    does the date adjust at the end of months with 30 days? it seems like it should with the Bluetooth sync.

    • @sinjon
      @sinjon 3 года назад +1

      Yes it does. Better than that, the atomic clock signal keeps the date updated. It’s literally a set it(just your time zone really) and forget it watch.

    • @catpat862
      @catpat862 3 года назад +1

      The perpetual calendar complication is built into the quartz module, the date will adjust correctly even without bluetooth and Radio atomic clock signal.
