Mine are due in today although I’ll admit I had to think a couple times before purchasing. I recently completed the 2 day off-road training course at BMW in Greer, SC where you train on their bike. There were a lot of drops in the class, particularly in gravel and no one ever had an issue with the cylinder head.
That being said, I’m sure Murphy’s Law would apply to me when I drop mine. 😂

I put these on mine after I installed the crash bar reinforcements. Should've come from the factory like this.

I just got the reinforcement bars my self. I agree, they make the crash bars complete!

@@BikesCameraAdventure one thing I worry about is adding the crash bar reinforcement. Without it the crash bar will give to absorb a hard impact. Adding the crash bar reinforcement will send that force to the frame, possibly bending the frame. Cheaper to straighten or replace a bent crash bar.

dont forget to mention that you need to tighten the bolts of the altrider cylinder guards to 9 NM (as per the instructions)

The extra crash bar bracket seemed like a more pressing need for me. The crash bar bends if you drop it and it will hit the engine heads.

I've since added those extra support bars. Yes, mine had slight bends and made the install of them a little tricky.

Notice any additional reflected engine noise from the guards? Thinking about a set for my GSA. They look great! Much more finished appearance than the Ricochet version, although AltRider is clearly proud of them based on the price!

I can’t say I’ve noticed a sound difference. Although I have a louder aftermarket pipe (from previous owner, I would of kept it stock). I also plug ear buds into my Cardo. But, I’m impressed with the engineering & design, like your stuff! I’ve filmed my XT mount and new security pin/plate from you guys and will be editing that soon. Very nice stuff!

Nice video, you have a wonderful on camera presents. Major flaw, the bolts are Allen. There are no Allen's on the GS/A all Torq's. Should have been a T-27. Look how shitty that metal forming and pressing is. I'm sure it will work fine, but No, thanks.

Many thanks for the kind words! Yeah, allen bolts strip quickly. I was also hoping for better fitment after what I paid for them. But, it all worked out and I've tested them a few times since, lol.

Just a useless item that will cause your GS to overheat faster and bends into your cylinder heads as the bike is too heavy for these plates made just to make a profit, do not buy these unless you have no clue how to ride offroad.

That's an interesting take. I've not had any overheating problems in the last year that they've been installed and I ride in over 100 F weather all summer in CA. I've also tested these twice in two different drops with smaller rocks around that would of went right in the middle of OEM bars and would of made contact with my magnesium cylinder covers. I'm sure OEM covers can take a beating, but I'm not trying to find out what it takes to crack them. Not to mention one cylinder head cover is $956. Also, A lot of people have "no clue how to ride offroad". That's how everyone starts! It's great they are getting out there to practice and have fun.
You must be fun at parties...

Oh my, that is kind of harsh. Guess you haven’t seen the BDR films. Those folks are pretty good riders yet they seem to fall, sometimes hard. Check out the MOTOTREK videos that feature Dusty Wessels. He seems to be an excellent off road rider and he has similar cylinder head protectors on his GS. He must think they are important- just saying. Good thing companies make products like this for us mere mortals just trying to learn and have fun.
