- Big Brother oftentimes casts archetypes, and one of the most apparent ones is the nerd. We don't see them every season, but when we do, they often stand out and can be easily identified as a nerd. Whether this is beneficial or detrimental to their game is up to them and their surrounding cast, but it would be foolish to say that the nerds of Big Brother haven't left a strong impact on the legacy of the show. So today, we'll be looking into the successes, the failures, and the overall history of "The Nerd" on Big Brother. And the geeks and evil geniuses. You get the point.

Fun Fact: Scottie from BB20 Confirmed on a YT Vid (dont got the link but its here somewhere), that he basically made up 80% of his persona to fit the nerd archetype because he knew he'd have a better chance of getting on with that archetype.

BB17 was the first season I watched feeds. Steve was a whole other level for the late night crew. He was eating shredded cheese out of a ramekin at 3 am.
Lmfaoooo that’s hilarious, I loved watching the segments on the show of Steve just doing odd stuff
And now a year later......we have Michael completely dominating the game in an arguably unprecedented way
One of the best to not win
Steve goes by Steven in his day to day life. He only went by Steve on the show to distance himself as much as possible from inevitable Ian comparisons. Steven and Ian have a similar ring to them. GOAT 👑

Ian is definitely the best nerd to ever be on the show and is definitely the most likable one.
Most likable for sure, to me he played a flawless game - besides the fact that he was a bit clueless, he didnt really make any mistakes. I was sad at the way he went out in BB22
Maybe if you don't call Eric a nerd..which I don't . Eric was kinda weird but ultimately not a nerd.
Most likeable? 10000%. Best player? Not at all. He was very in the dark strategically for most of the game and his number 1 ally in Dan wanted him out the entire ladder half of the game.
Steve is a much more boring winner but if you watched him on the feeds, he was actually very very good at the game. Much better strategically than ian.

@@dalaciaj I think they mean the "mom" archetype, which all of the women named fall into (regardless of their actual parenthood status). It would def be an interesting comparison bc, as you mentioned, the "oldest women" is rarely even old at all!
“The Nerd” is always who I find myself rooting for every season
Same, after watching Ian and Steve and being fans of them, I always find myself rooting for the nerd and being sad when they inevitably get taken out somewhat early on

Ian after Shane getting evicted in a blindside just being like: What, What, What. is iconic Danielle and Ian were surprised like to no ends
Enzo never gets the credit he deserves for coming up with one of the most genius and successful plans in BB history. People forget that Enzo created the brigade alliance, by essentially going up to the first HOH and telling him he was going to be in an alliance and who else would be in it, positioning himself with people of different skills and would likely form duos and making them use their duo to keep the alliance safe rather than have loyalty to their duo, so he could skate to the end without having to win anything and everyone in his alliance would also be a bigger target than him should they ever be put on the block together. Nobody, and I mean, nobody, sees the genius that was Enzo.
really all he needed was to pull out the final HOH and give a convincing jury speech and the 500k would've been his lmao

I have always rooted for the nerds (I can relate), Ian and Steve are two of my favorites of all time.

Two things about Ian: He's the only winner and possibly the only player to be on the Autism spectrum (although he's never been officially diagnosed). Regarding his strategic acumen, I would argue that he was far more strategic than Steve, although I can no longer prove it. There used to be a yt video of him, Dan, and Danielle on The Talk. On it, Ian laid out his entire strategic plan, and he had followed it almost to the letter. Don't know why the vid has been removed, but I can't find it now.
Oh I know exactly what you mean, I’ve seen the video you’re talking about! I wasn’t trying to say that Ian didn’t have a strategic game as you’re right, he came in with that plan and it worked. I was mostly saying that I feel towards the middle/end game, Steve was able to rely on his strategic acumen at times he was vulnerable, like at the final 5 when his relationship with Vanessa and how he presented himself to her made her feel less threatened by him and to instead blindside Austin, whereas Ian was able to basically win out all the way to the end from the final 9, with the only exception being at the final 4. I think Ian’s strategic game pre-jury was actually quite good, especially during the boogie blindside week, whereas I feel Steve’s strategic game picked up a lot around the beginning of the jury stage and soared from there. At the end of the day it really can just be apples and oranges though

Please make a video discussion about Ian's path to winning, similar to what you did with Steve. I think Ian is an interesting case in this game as he played quite a bizarre game
I normally don't count BB OTT as a "real" season, but for the purposes of this video I think we should definitely include Scott! Epitome of the nerd archetype ... kind of falls in with Ronnie. Tried to make big moves early and got vilified.
It was actually in the initial script this time! The audio in that section got corrupt (go figure because of course it’s the first time I was gonna count OTT) and I just never went back and re-recorded it. I also was gonna shoutout Shane as a bit of a geekier person as well

A big reoccurring trend I have noticed with many of the nerds who go on Big Brother is that they typically are not included within the main power structure of the house when the season begins, and if they are, they are often near the bottom of the alliance.
BB14 Ian: was frequently at the bottom of the quack pack when he didn't win safety
BB15 Andy (if you count him): was not apart of the Moving Company
BB16 Nicole: was not part of the Bomb Squad or the Detonators
BB16 Christine: was near the bottom in the hierarchy of the Detonators
BB17 Steve: was not included in the High Rollers
BB19 Cameron: was evicted night 1
BB19 Ramses and Megan: were outsiders whom Paul didn't trust
BB20 Scottie: he and Bayleigh were not original members of the FOUTTE alliance and were added to the alliance later so they could control the votes
BB21 Nicole: was not included in the gr8teful alliance
BB22 Ian: was not apart of the Committee alliance (even though there was another former winner that season who WAS included, somehow)
BB23 Sarah Beth: was typically at the bottom of the Royal Flush alliance
BB24 Michael: was not a member of the Pound alliance and was near the bottom of the Leftovers
BBC10 Kevin Jacobs: was not a member of the Savage Seven and had to start slow before he and Haleena could really go "evil genius" mode.
Hmm... it seems that if you are going to go on Big Brother as the nerd archetype, you better be ready to start playing the game from the bottom of the house.
Dan did everything he could’ve done and should’ve won, Vanessa made one mistake and lost. 🤷🏾♂️
Vanessa and Steve equally deserved to win depending on who won the hoh. For Dan, he just didn't do enough jury management, + Ian also didn't really make a mistake. Imo at least.
Do you reckon Hannah from BB23 can be considered a pseduo Nerd of sorts? Like apparanetly she has one of the highest IQ's ever out of every HG that's ever played and I think her relationship with Tiffany is shades of a Vanessa and Steve relationship. Like she def does'nt fit into the nerd acertype when you have SB around but she has an unassuming stance, can be awkward at times especailly when she's around DerekX and she's a young super fan too I think age of Ian when he won. Like there's def some similarties you can make with Hannah and Ian/Steve.
I definitely see what you're saying. I might put her in her own archetype to be honest, because she has her sprinkles of nerdiness while also showcasing other traits, but that was a good analysis you just provided so thank you

Yeah, Andy wasn't particularly nerdy. As Ethan pointed out he was BY FAR the most INTELLIGENT person in the house, but just like BB10 Brian he didn't have any really "nerdy" qualities.

I would 100% be a nerd IMO, I’m a super fan of the show, a gamer, and very awkward when meeting new people, but I think once people got to know me and I made good bonds with people, I could go very far and maybe win the game

I think William from S5 might be considered nerdy? Idk? He was more likely casted for the gay archetype but Gary also already fit into it so he could’ve been the nerd.
For season 4 I'd say Joel AND Mitch. Mitch literally has a successful science-based RUclips channel, even if he was cast as the token gay of the season.

I pick Steve to win the big brother 17 on the first episode! Mainly because of his personality and comparisons to Ian! My mom didn’t get it at first because she was like he laying low but maybe to low and will get pick off after Austin Twins get rid of James, Becky and Meg! My mom saw Steve win coming after his final six hoh win! After Steve won I always tell my mom I pick Steve to win the first episode! She like I get it! Every season I’m like is their going to be another Steve pick! Sadly since Steve I have done horrible at picking the winning since!

I don't consider Eric a nerd so much. I thought he was socially awkward but..I dunno. I also don't consider Matt a nerd which is funny he's compared to Eric...and well..Eric was a lot better at BB. Matt would have done good had he not used that diamond veto to get Kathy out. I guess Eric was weird when he was caught in a lie...it was so hilarious watching Dick freak out on him and he didn't know what to do.

You should do a video explaining Paul's game on BB18 and BB19. I remember when I watched 18 I thought that Paul took the wrong person and cost himself 500,000 but on BB19 he had a better game than Josh and the Jury was simply bitter.

@@sophiam4165 BTW I've seen that video before. It's kind of funny how we've both looked at this specific subject. What could he have done? Would he admit to his deception or would he simply not make a bunch of deals? At the end of the day it's a game and Paul made deals so that people wouldn't go after him. Had he not done so he could have been taken out early on in 19 (18 I blame him for taking Nicole over James).

Matt & Eric will always be my favorite nerd archetypes. The rest hard pass.
I think you missed out on one more from BB19. While Josh isn’t your stereotypical nerd, he definitely has the brains and strategic prowess to make him stand out as a target. Maybe he is more of a Hermione Granger type like Nicole.

You should do a video on the performance of the Oldest house guests each season and how well they do. If tiffany wins BB23 she might be the most successful ~old houseguests of all time
I guess Brendon was too hot to be a nerd and same with Rachel...too big of boobs lol. The truth is nerd is usually reserved for people who are socially awkward. And Brendon definitely wasn't socially awkward but neither was Matt...Matt was totally not a nerd. Eric wasn't either except he was weird acting once he got caught in a lie.
