Dw is really expensive comparing even Tama or pearl. Dont bother. Mapex got greeeat sounding snares for a good price. You could check them out (i got one mapex MPX, very cheap and good).
but nothing really pops out as something unique which is something I, and likely many other people value heavily when it comes to an album. sounding like a genre is one thing, but adding your own twist to making the music more definable as your own is a huge step in musicianship I don't see too often with the genre. when something is played, I like to be able to know right away which artist/band it is because of how unique it is. something like the guitarist Plini, or Sithu Aye are two decent examples of that.
GetTheJojDone I agree 100% I could never get into this band because they aren't anything that pops out. Just goes down with Memphis may fire and devil wears prada, bless the fall.. etc. They are all the same to me. Want to hear an amazing band? Listen to "Invent, Animate" they are fucking beautiful
GetTheJojDone Yeah but at the time Empire and Deciever came out that wasn't considered generic, I don't think those 2 even were at all. If you must I guess there album Life Cycles, you could consider a bit generic, but I still love that record. And there new album has a bunch of different types of songs.
"Ah man he should be in a big band." Well...Matt is on Chainsmokers. Very big music project but not really "technical", but he is travelling worldwide and making good money. Sometimes a "not so big band" its what moves Luke on music more than famous pop stuff. Craig Reynolds could be in somethimg "bigger" that Stray from the Path, but... That music talks so much on heart and feeling. Hard to know those things.
Luke, this was absolutely incredible! & Meinl please post more of Luke Holland. Don't listen to all of those stupid assholes because they could never do half the shit you do in their lifetime. Bunch of no life pricks with nothing else to do but hate on others work... You're the most kickass talented drummer I know of.
its funny to hear these people saying Luke is sloppy when he is the one endorsed ny DW and Meinl cymbals so if you are going to be negative might as well not comment just being honest...
he's like 20 and covered TesseracT, Periphery, and AAL songs. what the fuck is he doing in a metalcore band? he's not bad, but the amount of skill he's limited to show in this trash genre is very limited.
I guess he just likes to play it. The vocalist and drummer of this band are both the powerhouses. But this guy may as well just join a progressive metal band, it will suit his style more
Yeah but dont forget in his earlier days he covered loads of August Burns Red & Texas In July stuff too. Oh can I even add Memphis May Fire too. So its not like he's downgrading or something, he grew up with the genre basically
While I respect Luke and his choice to join The Word Alive, it just sucks that someone who can hang with the likes of Matt Halpern and Jay Postones wastes their talent on generic metal-core, post-hardcore whatever you want to call it.
T. Bone Thats kinda true I guess but doesn't it serve the purpose of having that explosive heavy sound being constant? I'm not a fan of metal(core) drumming but it has its purpose even in alternative music styles. What would you suggest to replace it with?
I don' t know why you should hate it. It's not the de-facto texture, but it IS useful. It can sound monotonous is (1) it's used CONSTANTLY through a song or even a album or band, and/or (2) if the cymbal being used is nothing but shrill, unpleasant tones. I use a larger, almost paper-thin Dream 20" Vintage Bliss Crash/Ride, and it sounds amazing for wash-riding. Buttery-smooth and translucent without sounding weak.
Cameron Alidor when ever i stray away from the Zildjian z series shit starts breaking to fast i like the sound of those vintage crashes but i like to really hit my symbols hard as fuck how do these bad boys stand up to power hitters
Two mistakes Luke made within the last couples years.. 1) Playing in a band that's so far beneath his talent, and 2) The forearm "bad bruise" tattoo. I thought he was in a motorcycle accident when I first saw it.
Sooooooooo many irrelevant negative comments when people should just be enjoying how much of a solid clean performance this was by Luke...
Been watching this cat for a while. Glad to see that he is moving on to bigger and better things
0:31 the croud makes me so happy, the band is lucky to have one like this
Please Meinl more Luke videos!
Classic. What a jam. Luke destroys it.
Love the way you attack the drums! Beast!
snare... how i love your sound.
It's a dw edge snare. Only cost around $1200...
Dw is really expensive comparing even Tama or pearl. Dont bother. Mapex got greeeat sounding snares for a good price. You could check them out (i got one mapex MPX, very cheap and good).
this guy knows the thing!!!!
its too bad the band is rather generic for the genre, such a good drummer
Have you listened to the new album, a lot of variety on there? They're a metalcore band, of course they're going to sound like the genre.

TheOnlyBrently yeah sorry dude but it's just my opinion. Just find them to be boring now a days
GetTheJojDone

Hopefully he gets into a band that matches his talents
he is playing with Jason Richardson now since 2016, just in case you didn't know
He's pretty much a god now lol
Now, that's a fuckin' crowd. Everyone is moving.
Needs more breakdowns.

He's a badass!!!!
The Mb20 Ride is the perfect cymbal in my point of view
0:31 that bell... made me the song
Oh fuck yeah 🤘
Marra Estilo batera muito diferente. Tira onda :D
Love it
Moré luke vídeos c:
its funny to hear these people saying Luke is sloppy when he is the one endorsed ny DW and Meinl cymbals so if you are going to be negative might as well not comment just being honest...
There wasnt even a single mistake in this vid, haters
i know lol
More luke pkay throughs
Someone give me a tutorial of that trick with the hand he hits the snare at 1:49
I would just tell you. Right after he did the fill, Snare + Hi-hat + China. Hope I'm not late :)
Qual é a banda?
what crash is that? meinl byzance brilliant medium thin... size....
It says at the start of the video
Eelco Numan
19"
how the hell do you mute choke a cymbal like at 1:09??
+Brandon Chambers Idk man, but he just showed us haha
+Brandon Chambers in between two knuckles
He pushes it upwards so it can "tilt" anymore. If you get what I mean :'D
You grab it
Then let go
those hats
Have you seen the guy standing next to Luke?, His face is like "pretty shitty I can do better" 😂😂😂😂
Luis Gabriel Perea I’m pretty sure that’s Matt Horn ... their drummer now 😂
Mmm. Crunchy cymbals you got there.
Hola alguien sabe como se llama esta cancion
Eider Mendez 2012 de The word alive
Si lo pone en el titulo
el primer minuto D: Daniel Garcia Eduardo Navas
slick as fuck
he's like 20 and covered TesseracT, Periphery, and AAL songs. what the fuck is he doing in a metalcore band? he's not bad, but the amount of skill he's limited to show in this trash genre is very limited.
he wrote the drum track for this bands latest record and you can tell thought went into it. their older songs are fun to play and he enjoys them.
I guess he just likes to play it. The vocalist and drummer of this band are both the powerhouses. But this guy may as well just join a progressive metal band, it will suit his style more

If you listen to TWA most recent album there is actually quite a lot of good drum work
I mean, he becomes better at his double bass skills, when playing all the TWA stuff
Timothy Molloy on background?
That's his drum tech if I'm not mistaken. They look very similar though haha
Does anyone think it’s weird Matt Horn is watching Luke drum after he recording an album and then Luke joined lol.
i think if luke plays for bring me the horizon it will be sick.
What name the song?
2012
1:49
He must have a cold head...
i still dont get wearing a beanie in 90 degree weather.
+Winter Gibbs It's to keep his hair out of his face/eyes, makes sense when you think about it
+Winter Gibbs i always wear a beanie when i drum, due to hair but yeah thats prolly it
+Winter Gibbs Look cool?
+Winter Gibbs yeah makes sense to me, keep the hair out of the face and if he's wearing in ear monitors could be to hold them in better too.
for the look
It's all cymbals
the guitarists doing their little spins and jump split kick things look especially silly when all you can hear is the drums
While I respect Luke and his choice to join The Word Alive, it just sucks that someone who can hang with the likes of Matt Halpern and Jay Postones wastes their talent on generic metal-core, post-hardcore whatever you want to call it.
Like is not even to close to their level though, his footwork is waaay too sloppy.
Luke playing for this band is like Morgan Freeman hosting a Game Grumps video. Talk about downgraded lol.
Dude is sick I just wish he played with more power behind his sticks
Love this band. But Luke could find better...
Fucking hell. That band is some of the worst shit i have ever heard.
first hihi
terkadang kurang tepat jatuhnya.. (y)
I hate cymbal washing so much..
why?
It's overused and un-imaginative.
T. Bone Thats kinda true I guess but doesn't it serve the purpose of having that explosive heavy sound being constant? I'm not a fan of metal(core) drumming but it has its purpose even in alternative music styles. What would you suggest to replace it with?
