UPDATE - DON'T BUY the Oklahoma Joe custom fitted grill cover for this grill, it is junk as seen in the video for part 4.... Buy the Char-Broil grill cover as shown in the video #4 on my channel, it will last you many many years: Amazon Link To Purchase amzn.to/2SIJkMUAmazon Link to Weber (Quality IMO) Charcoal Chimney Starter: amzn.to/2UXGK7i
My buddy has this exact same grill he is just now entering year 3 and seems be holding up as well his cover he had to replace this year as well it is dry rotted. I did help him do a couple mods same as the smoke stack as well as a deflector to move more heat to center. Almost considered buying one myself but leaning more towards a vertical smoker. Thanks for the video
I'm about to purchase this grill. I've been curious about the smoke stack. It seems short, and you just confirmed that is cut in a little high. I like the way you're resolving that. I may try that after I break it in and give it a good seasoning. I'm curious about your smoke mod. You suspect it carries the smoke over with convection? What is it about that design that intrigued you enough to try it out?
I have the same grill but my burners rotted out at the point of contact in the rear for them along with the baffles mount. Looking for parts from them has become a chore to say the least. Looks like I have to customize it myself as they do not sell replacement parts for the mounts. I love the grill aspect but their replacement parts are lacking.
Greta video. How do you keep temperature regulated on this unit? I have this combo just bought it in 2021. Temps spike all over the place. Hard to control with the small cook chamber. I’m starting off with half load of lump charcoal, and then I add in wood chunks. (I tried small wood splits but gets way too hot). Anyway. Biggest issue I have is keeping temp around 250-260 and holding it for longer than 10 minutes. I’ll get it to 260ish but it drops within 10 minutes I’ll add a chunk it spikes to 290 and holds for a bit then drops quickly below the 250 mark. It’s a headache.
In the beginning I always load the chamber and start the stack and fire box vent at 1/2 way. Too hot? I cut off air, too cold I open fir more air and add fuel if that doesn’t work. It is a steady monitoring but we are talking hours and not 20 mins.
Yeah I'm wondering why on Earth it isn't designed that way. I mean, you've got a smoker right there, who wouldn't want to use it to smoke meat your ore cooking with propane heat?
Funny that you went with the Char-Broil cover instead. Given that Char-Broil owns and manufactures Oklahoma Joe since 1994, I would expect they were identical.

Thanks for the video. Did you ever figure out a solution to repair the supports for the grates?

My heat shield tents have rusted supports the same way on mine. How did you fix it? I cant find a product to buy.

Thanks for the video's. How do you keep it looking good ? Just by covering ?
Walking Bear h covering and coating in oil on the firebox. Makes all the difference.
What oil do you coat with?
Did you season your grill when it was new? I will try to clean and season every use.
No, I just used it
I have this grill and I love it but wondering if you have any trouble cleaning build up under the grill where it goes down to drain in to the tray?
It does build up alot.
Thanks for the video I’m going to buy a used one tomorrow
Have you used a rotisserie kit with this grill? Really interested in trying that and would love to see if you have any recommendations
Altamash Ahmed I have not. It would be interesting to see one work.
The cover causes moisture in the summer.
Thanks man!!
Justin Gonzales yeah man! Consider subscribing and get more videos.
I am thinking of cutting out the middle and connecting the 2 cook chambers. Anyone done that before?
johnny missfire I’ve seen that somewhere before. I think the closed the gas side back louvers too.
