I was so wrong about this Calder race, Macklin has arrived! What are YOUR thoughts on Mack's rookie season so far? Where would YOU put him in your Calder rankings? Let me know! #GravGang
Makes you wonder what Celebrini point total would look like if one he didn’t get injured and he wasn’t stapled to Goodrow for the first part of the season. He’s the clear Calder favorite right now.

Honestly, the thing that really has shocked me this year is his physicality. At only 18, 6'0", and under 200 lbs, I expected a rookie season that looked more like McDavid with him trying to be slippery and just avoid the physical play as much as possible. Instead, I see him using a high IQ to take hits safely instead of outright avoiding them, and while he isn't laying a ton of big hits, I'm seeing him absolutely _body_ NHL veterans along the boards. He's just SO much stronger than I ever imagined he could be at 18, especially as a smaller center. Like I said, it's not that he's just manhandling anyone, but he's using his intelligence to augment solid enough strength to outright win battles where any other 18 year old would be expected to just get out-muscled.
I think the best part is how much fun it looks like he's having. Looking at Bedard and michkov, when they aren't putting pucks in the net, it looks like the stress is wearing on them
Idk if this a hot take or not but I’m going to predict that Celebrini ends up a better player than Bedard. He’s so well rounded especially for his age.
I think this is a fun thought it's going to be fun to see who is going to be the best player over the yrs michkov celebrini or Bedard It's the McDavid McKinnon eichel thing. While it's appeared clear 3 yrs in McKinnon may actually end up being the winner of the 3. It all depends how they age - how injuries play into it in the next 5 -8 yrs
Celebrini is literally the captain of the Sharks at 18 years old. Mack is the best player on the ice on a nightly basis for SJ. He leads by example and plays his tail off every shift. He has already earned the respect of everyone in the organization in just 28 games and is starting to demand more from his teammates. This kid has got the skill, IQ, compete, leadership and the drive to keep getting better. He also doesn't back down when opposing teams take runs at him and isn't afraid to get into battles along the boards. He is definitely winning the Calder if he stays healthy! The future is bright in San Jose, the hard part as a Sharks fan is waiting another 3-4 years for the rest of the baby sharks to arrive! One other note to consider on why Celebrini is playing so well early in his rookie season is Mack grew up around professional sports. He got to see first hand at a young age what it takes behind the scenes to be an elite professional athlete and how to win championships since his father was a trainer for the Vancouver Canucks and is now with the Golden State Warriors. He as also been a training machine his entire life and wants to be the BEST player period, once again due to his father instilling that compete in him as a kid. He is extremely critical of himself and his play, especially when he makes mistakes that hurt the team and he flat out HATES losing. Love this kid. He is a joy to watch and I'm so happy the Sharks got him!
4:00 "Out of those 28, 13 of them have been one-goal losses." If you exclude empty net goals that number jumps even more. Six of their losses by more than one goal were one goal plus empty netter(s) bringing it up to 19 of 28.
Until Celebrini came along, Eklund was not only probably the only good draft pick they'd had in at least 10 years, I foresaw him outshining the 6 guys drafted ahead of him in a pretty weak draft year. Only time can tell, since the 2021 draft year only mostly started playing last year, but so far I think that prediction is ringing true. He's strong, he's smart, and his shot is fantastic. Last year on a team that was literally losing on purpose, he put up more points than any of the players drafted ahead of him, and even if Beniers had a better rookie season, that was on a team that went to the playoffs that year, not a team that finished absolutely dead last, and last year Beniers was well behind Eklund on points. So right now I'm standing by what I said when they announced Eklund as their pick in 2021--he was the best pick of the draft, and he somehow went 7th overall.
I was telling my brother and father during my own scouting that I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever if he were better than Bedard due to his complete game, powerful skating and size. Time will tell but Celebrini already looks like a complete, true #1 center at 18. He's a treat to watch. Bedard probably has a little more natural skill and a laser of a shot. I can see him scoring more goals and perhaps more points but he'll never be as good a two-way center imo. The Sharks are rebuilding very well too. Hopefully they both get the support they need in the coming seasons.
I think it's a win/win for Mack and the Sharks. He's not under the pressure he would be at the Habs or Chicago. San Jose absolutely loves him, and they just appreciate his presence on the ice. The Tank is really an amazing place rn, win or lose.
Bedard landed on the worst team ever and was told you're the guy and pretty much the only guy, so go win us some games. That was not fair to him. No other 18 year old ever had to deal with that to my recollection.

There have been multiple times where a reporter has asked him about how well he did in a game and his response, basically, was, "Yea... would have been nicer to win." That shows a maturity well beyond his years. I also like the fact that he seems uncomfortable talking about himself. He has been an intermission guest on the Sharks TV broadcasts and when asked about his play, he says very little. It isn't from him being uncomfortable talking to the media. He will rattle on and on about his teammates, just won't talk much about himself. Very solid D play, an offensive juggernaut in the making, unselfish, and a team guy who loves to play the game... Yea... I'm more than happy to be wrong about the pick.
Yikes, Celebrini was the 1OA clearly, it would have been idiotic to pass on that for any of the D last year. Especially since Celebrini was projecting as a strong defensive center, potentially selke level.

I just hope that if the Sharks rise again they don't squander their opportunity. They were so dominant for so long right after the lockout. Once they got Joe Thornton in that trade they just remained dominant for many years to come and continue to build more of a great team. The Sharks should have won multiple Stanley cups. They were that much of a powerhouse, but they never won a single one. 2015 ironically was a year that they missed the playoffs and then in 2016 I guess maybe because there weren't really any expectations for them since they missed the playoffs the year before, that's when the sharks have their best season and made it all the way to the Stanley cup final which I sadly was expecting him to lose to the penguins anyways, however I do have to point out that the Sharks did still play pretty well by bringing it to six games in the first place. I knew it was just a matter of time before the Sharks would drop down to the bottom because all those amazing players that made them so dominant for so long were all getting old. Several of them have retired. I even went to the Patrick Marleau retirement ceremony, but sadly due to budgeting I couldn't go to the Joe Thornton one. The sharks are by far the most frustrating team to be a fan of in the bay area. They were the only team that remained so dominant for so long but they never want to Stanley cup. At least when the raiders were still around we all knew they were going to suck so it was a pleasant surprise when they actually played pretty well on rare occasion. The A's were frustrating because of how cheap the ownership was but somehow they would find a way to make it to the playoffs on occasion anyway. But the fact is the Sharks just would always be so good but never when the championship. I think they're the biggest choke artists in the Bay Area and one of the biggest in all of sports. In fact it's a lot less frustrating to be a fan of the Sharks now because we know they suck. It looks like they're improving this year and we'll see how that turns out at the end of the year and hopefully they build up a much better roster but this time when they do can they just stop choking in the playoffs
As someone who follows SJ, it’s clear to me that Celebrini is already the best player on the team. Yes, SJ is bottom 3 in the league right now, but for an 18 year old to already be any NHL team’s MVP is crazy. By the time he’s 21 years old and some of the other young talent develops around him, the Sharks will become a very difficult team to beat. I think SJ will probably struggle record wise this year and next, but especially if San Jose wins next year’s Gavin McKenna sweeps, they will be scary-good.
I literally thought you were delusional with how you talked about him before I'm a sharks fan so even if I was biased I watch alot of him and I knew during training camp that he would be dominating

@mcj44 it's definitely a argument lol macklin looks unreal point per game makes alot of highlight hard working plays Bedard has hall tevuo bert macklin has garland and toffoli pretty similar line mates Bedard is 7 points under point per game ill tell u this the Bedard being as good as mcdavid convo is already done
@@bmantheawsome77 Bedard was also nearly PPG and actually sustained that and the Hawks are not nearly as good offensively as the sharks. Celebrini has much more than Toffoli and…garland? The canuck? Anyway, Celebrini has Toffoli, Eklund, Zetterlund, Granlund who are all top 6 forwards and Smith who’s another top prospect and Walman to quarterback the powerplay. Bedard has Teravainen who’s been inconsistent, Bertuzzi who hasn’t been great, and that’s about it. Not to mention last year having Kurashev and whoever else while having similar production. Did I mention that Bedard was and still is a generational prospect while Cele was just a “future franchise cornerstone” (still great, but not Bedard level)
@mcj44 Bedard has seth Jones to quarter back his power play and he has hall too and kurishev played well last year and soon it will be korchinski a offensive dman I'd say the have about the same help I never said it was a definite thing I'm saying it's a conversation

@mcj44 i think he's better than Aho but there was a healine from San Jose that read "Celebrini vs mcdavid is the new crosby vs mcdavid" i know there was some Bedard glazing last year but people actually see that celebrini leads the league in takeaways and use that to say he's generational when he isnt and its just acceptable to do this year
@@odyssey9334 Yeah he’ll be better than Aho don’t get me wrong, just the closest comparable rn. People think he’s gonna have a better career than Bedard because “grit” which is the dumbest thing of all time lol
Lol comparing Mac to Aho is hilarious. Celebrini is like 1-2 years away from being a better play than Aho if not sooner. I dont think people really watch Celebrini play they just see highlights. He is gonna make a lot of people eat their words in the future. He is gonna be closer to the crosby, Mcdavid, mackinnon level than people wanna admit. And yes he can definitely have a better career than bedard. I wouldn’t say cus of grit but all around game. The only thing Bedard has over Mac is higher end offense but Mac is showing he’s not far behind in that category. I would say they’re skating is pretty even Mac is a very underrated skater and if you disagree it tells me your not really watching him. Mac has him beat in just about every other category
@@nappysjsharksfan I’d actually argue Celebrini is a better skater. Bedards got better hands, better shot, arguably better playmaking, higher iq though. Well Celebrini is : 1. Better offensively 2. Better defensively 3. More compete 4. He's younger by 2 full Seasons 5. Better at puck Battles Habs fan are delusional thinking Hutson could Win over Celebrini ...against Michkov it would be more fair for Hutson but against Mack its not even close
These takes about Celebrini are so reactionary. Remember how last season Bedard was the golden boy and now he is washed? Its been not even 30 games for Celebrini and once he gets figured out by the rest of the league, or is on a worse line his production will drop. Remember Barzal and his (huge) 85 point rookie season and then he slumped? EDIT: I will add this, Celebrini is a good player but temper your takes because if he goes on a point slump you'll be crowning someone else as the new golden boy.
On a worse line? You haven't watched the sharks this season then, he has made every line he is on good. Right now Toffoli and Granlund are on a line without Celebrini and aren't putting up many points.
He compete way too Much to be in a slump ... Not like bedard or Michkov ... Celebrini is more complete, the Crosby type player That you want to build your team around to have a competitive team ... Build your team around Michkov and bedard Make juste your team better offensively
@@gravelkeven Are you saying that a complete player cant get into a slump? You sound ridiculous. Youre judging him based on less than 30 games, and then judging bedard on a slump he had in Nov.

he has a limited game imo he will like Bedard never LEAD a team to the cup he is more like a good player than needs full support to have success. It's not a knock I mean the McKinnon's/Crosby's/Gretzky's/Lemieux's only come around about once every ten years. When I look back at my team, the Habs even Lafleur was not a superstar his game was very limited he had zero toughness could not win battles not good defensively but with good support he flourished. This is why rebuilds are so tough one two guys won't cut it luckily for SanJose they also got a really good defenseman that give another year or 2 will be a stud. Joe Thornton couldn't win any cups in SanJose and i see much the same they might get back to having a good team but not good enough to see any cups.
So you're saying Lafleur could not do it because he "could not win battles not good defensively" and it's very, very clear that Celebrini can do both of those things. His offensive capabilities are actually probably the lower ceiling. I mean, it's always a team sport. McKinnon isn't doing much without Makar and Rantanan. Crosby has always had Letang and Malkin. Even Gretzky never won a cup without Mark Messier and Jari Kurri. Of course Celebrini is going to need others around him. Your whole comment is absurd. "He's never going to be that good, because he'll always need other players just like every single other player that ever played the game."
What do you mean by a limited game? He's extremely well-rounded, great both offensively and defensively, makes a bunch of great setups, has a great shot, and he gets involved physically as well.

As a Sharks Employee, on behalf of the org I accept your apology. Seeing his work everyday is enthralling
Hutson if Laine can keep scoring on pp, he's a point per game since last 13 games. before had no finishers and not on first wave.
I literally thought you were delusional with how you talked about him before I'm a sharks fan so even if I was biased I watch alot of him and I knew during training camp that he would be dominating
Great analysis, thank you! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Nope Nope Nope, Dustin Wolf for the Calder he’s the greatest hockey player of all time. That’s my non-biased opinion from a Flames fan
I really dont know what it would takes for a goalie to Win it
Lane Hutson is going to win the calder.
Hutson is my favorite so far
Thanks!
Sooo macklin over Bedard now orrrrr
Absolutely
Not even close. Why is this even an argument? It’s so dumb.
Celibrini is as advertised and better. With that said faber was robbed. My wild r becoming a mess quickly. And i really wanna hear ur thoughts on matt boldy specifically. Dude has disappeared again for a long stretch and im going insane
That Lil Russian Kid is Looking Fantastic, it will be a tight Calder race this year.
ahahhaha the russian is sloppy and doesnt drive play he aint winning it lol
He's been benched three times lol
Ducks got robbed
Don’t sleep on habs d man Hutson.
Calder winner, mark my word
Next Nate dog
I like Celebrini, but way too early to call him "generational."
Wait until you see Demidov next year.
Too bad he’s on the wrong team
Dude i dont mind Celebrini as a player hes been fantastic but the glazing needs to stop so many people are saying Celebrini > Bedard like they are saying something unique nd revolutionary. You arent little bro you and all the rest of instagram hockey scouts have that opinion. Celebrini isnt generational and he isnt as good as crosby
Finally someone who isn’t a casual. I loved Celebrini as a prospect and he’s looked great but this is like comparing Aho to McDavid.
If you read my second comment, I said “Celebrini will be better than Aho for sure.” Besides, a ~90 point two way top 25 player in the NHL is an incredible floor to have lmao.
In Michkov We TRust
We could’ve had something special if he went to Chicago. Sad he gets stuck on the west coast
Yes for sure I agree re what you've said about Celebrini......except for the hyperbolic pieces that everyone seems to shower on forwards versus D-men. Now. If you can possibly put the "forwards" bias away, compare him to Lane Hutson. I'm just really interested to see how you would compare the two without showering Mac C with all of that shiny new toy he's an offensive player!!!🤪🤪🤪 hyperbole.
Hutson Is one of the best Skaters I have ever seen.
He's almost two full years younger and averaging a point per game lol. Hush
Well Celebrini is :
1. Better offensively
2. Better defensively
3. More compete
4. He's younger by 2 full Seasons
5. Better at puck Battles
Habs fan are delusional thinking Hutson could Win over Celebrini ...against Michkov it would be more fair for Hutson but against Mack its not even close
@@gravelkeventhis 1000% ^^^
@@gravelkeven yup totally agree
These takes about Celebrini are so reactionary. Remember how last season Bedard was the golden boy and now he is washed? Its been not even 30 games for Celebrini and once he gets figured out by the rest of the league, or is on a worse line his production will drop. Remember Barzal and his (huge) 85 point rookie season and then he slumped?
EDIT: I will add this, Celebrini is a good player but temper your takes because if he goes on a point slump you'll be crowning someone else as the new golden boy.
lol
@@gravelkeven Offense is astronomically more important than defence for forwards.
Smith is still total ass and taking him over Michkov will always be SJs biggest draft blunder in history. Even Celebrini cant help Smiths bad skating and dumb decision making
Hopefully smith develops. I agree but really too early to tell. Definitely should've took Michkov.
Imagining hating on Mike Grier and Will Smith lmao get a life. 99% chance Griers a better gm than whatever team you cheer for has, and Smith is 19 looking better every game grow up you absolute Bozo
@@HitmanHockeyCards michkov didn't want to play anywhere but Philly. It would have been stupid to draft him.
@@ryanbowlby859 that is 100% a lie
@@HitmanHockeyCards yeah 7 teams passed on him for absolutely no reason at all 🙄
he has a limited game imo he will like Bedard never LEAD a team to the cup he is more like a good player than needs full support to have success.
@@jonmendelson1104 he's talking outta his ass, he probably hasn't watched a single Sharks game lol. macklin clearly is great defensively and has been on different lines for the entire season while making everyone around him better.
Tell me you don't know hockey without telling me you don't know hockey.
How does he have a limited game??? Doesn’t even make sense at all. You clearly dont watch the sharks
