It's wild that LZ has songs of this quality that never even made it on a live set. Drums arrangement is so cool on this one, and there's so few live covers on RUclips.
@@burnt-rice6174 that’s with everything. I’m not a drummer I’m just a guitarist but I know it’s hard Just to keep that funky Purdie shuffle going in the pocket that deep and accept the way Bonham does takes dedication.
As a percussionist, my fav all time Zep song. As a musician, I like what they did with it. As a fan of DMB for 30 yrs, I thought they were capable of better. Grateful for what DMB provides!!!
So Dave kept a core of misicians for over three decades. He has obviously taking care of those guys. Made them feel important to the project. Why would Ford, Chrysler and Dodge not follow suit? It seems like a good marriage to me!!! It's been working for almost 40 years now!
I would never spend a dime to see a Led Zeppelin tribute band, but I would definitely pay good money to see the Dave Matthews band cover this song live. He’s no Robert Plant, and there will never be another John Bonham, but props to them for putting it out there.
Not a very easy song vocally to start with out the gate...even for a trained artist who seemlessly vasilates between falsetto and natural vocal projection! Im adding this to my live performance setlist this year..always wanted to play it and now technology has afforded me a pathway ..you can still live the dream of your past by embracing the offers and oppurtunities of the present!
O.A.R. does a pretty tight cover, little more reggae/island vibe to it. Dave could tighten it up some but then again thats the end of a long summer tour and its still f'n Dave, i love people with the heavy ignorant critiques who aint been leavin it all out there on the stage for 30+ yrs but SORRY if he aint sounding like RP who btw RP hasnt sounded like THAT RP in 50 years and only sustained that voice for maybe 10 years, nowhere near someone like McCartney who actually took care of his body and voice so it took care of him and his fans for 50 years, so know wtf ur talkin about maybe just a little before throwin shade from moms basement while ur surely breakin delivery speed records and really contributing to society for UBeR and DD
I’m with you. Was actually expecting that to be the strong part and found Dave’s vocals to be the MVP (didn’t expect that). Carter is absolutely one of the top drummers, but perhaps this shows just how other worldly Bonham was. Perdie Shuffle just wasn’t shufflin’…
Always been my favorite from led! Brings me back to the 1st Love of my life an they right u never ever forget her even when u see her 35 yrs later at grocery store an wowwww what happen hahahBababaha
@IJPhiloponus yeah Carter did a basic version cuz that shuffle is intricate and really wouldn't translate anyway live so he kept it tight, didn't really pull of a samba feel too well so it was good but not great from his standpoint. Trust me I love that dude as much as anyone and I've copped just about every dmb song so I'm just being honest. The song has never really been done live by any big name artists which is interesting but they did well. Sounded good.
Dave doesn't cover anything if he can't do it justice and then some and this was no different. I was always wondering when they'd cover this as it's right up their alley with altering time signatures etc. If they're not going to play a fiddle in the band anymore they need more of this.
Haven't listened to them in years so it's weird to hear them with no Leroi or Boyd. Doesn't even sound like "DMB" This is more like Dave 'n Friends 2003-04
It's not an easy groove to master for a lot of drummers, but for someone of this guy's caliber he should be able to nail that particular groove. He may have changed it deliberately, but I wouldn't if I were the drummer. It's way too fun to play once you get it to want to change it.
the drummer is away from the level at least in this performance, not even close of the original song, you should work on it in order to really enjoy the moment. my humble opinion as a led zeppelin's rock fan.
Sorry, this is bad. You should not cover Zeppelin if you can't play the drum part. I generally like this drummer but he didn't even try to get it right. Sorry Dave Matthews fans. Bad, wrong and soulless.
One of the best songs ever written
yea it is ❤
A big surprise for everyone in the audience! Who could've predicted they would open Gorge 2022 with a Zeppelin tune?!
DMB has collected so many musicians they could play anything!😂
I'll bet could play Aretha, Patti LaBelle, and Etta without missing a beat.
I dont usually abide covers of my beloved Led Zeppelin, but this is masterful and beautiful ❤
All of Dave's covers are incredible. Zeppelin never actually played this song live since JB died shortly after it was released 😞
DMB being completely loyal to the original arrangement. Note for note. Brilliantly done, lads.
They are KILLIN' it !!!!!!!!
Dave doing Zeppelin!!!!!!!!! I am in HEAVEN!!!!
My all time favorite Zeppelin song, Damn I wish I could have been there. Cold chills regardless
Same!
He opened Pretoria a week ago with it. Nearly wet myself.
My favorite, Led Zeppelin song also

I got chills, tears of joy awesome and amazing
WELL NOW!!!
wasn't that a simply fabulous rendition of a fantastic Led Zeppelin tune?
But Bonham would roll over...
SOOOOOO COOL... DAVE DID THAT AMAZINGLY
Best cover of this great song
Well Done Dave 👌
Saw them perform this in Saratoga and it was a delight !
This is the best cover they have ever done.
Amazing
FERDA
I think their cover of Kashmir at the Gorge in 2013 was the best cover they've done.
NO!! Cortez the killer! Central Park.
@@vincentzazueta2353Cortez the Killer Gorge, DMB Caravan. The back and forth with Tim Reynolds and Warren Haynes was ridiculous.
I saw them do this last year in SPAC and then in New York. First time and last time in 2022. 🎉❤
Haven't heard anything in years from Dave but this is great.
Damn my favorite Zeppelin to open, that would have been it for me. Have to get back to the Gorge for them sometime
Wow! My fave zeppelin song! Love it
Carter Beauford is a MONSTER!!!
great song..... luved the original.... but lets admit it... Dave and the band kills' it here Amazing...
Wow!
Just-
Wow!
Ive been to a few shows was actually in my truck cause of ticket issues but i couldnt believe they opened with this. Simply awesome
Funny how this is such an amazing zeppelin song yet it was never played live. Now in 2023 we get to hear it on stage.

Because it’s an absurdly hard song to drum the actual track to, this drummer is doing pretty good but he’s not playing all of it.
@@BarrackObamna its not too hard with enough practice!

@@BarrackObamna learned how to play the song in like 3 to 4 months. Took me a long time but I perfected it 😄
This was the perfect DMB song to cover! A Latin-influenced Zep song!!
Awesome recording my friend and they rocked this song 🤙
Thanks. 😊
My favorite band covering my favorite song by my second favorite band. Fuck yeah.
Big surprise! The great Dave Mathews singing a great song of the great LED Zeppelin!!!! Fantastic!!!
He sings this pretty good
My old high school girlfriend would love this.
GREAT cover!!! ❤❤❤
I am always pleasantly surprised with the choices they make for the covers they pick…obviously, this is a home run
What a great perspective on a spectacular band
We played this every Friday night in Chapel Hill as the sorority gals passed by ❤😂
Damn, that was Dope! They did an amazing job. Thanks for the upload. This is up there with Trains version of Thank you.
What an amazing tour 2022 has been! Best tour since 2004!
Love it

Tim nailed that solo good!
Doesn't stray too far from the original which I like. The guitar solo was masterful.

the best led zep song.....this is a good choice.....
Nothing like the original.

You should hear his cover of Sledgehammer, he does a fantastic job!
I agree, I'd say it's their best cover. Dave's voice fits well with that song
Saw him last week at The Wharf, he played this! So awesome, I was ecstatic!!!
Easily my favorite Led Zeppelin song
This makes sense.
Nicely done! Don't think this song has ever been covered
Unless you count Jason bonham
And Pearl Jam, with Robert Plant

Dave holding that guitar and not playing it for most of the song felt like chekhov's gun just waiting to go off
It's a good cover. But where is the Purdy Shuffle?
Samba Whistle?
Yeah lol the drummer didn’t want to attempt the real song live, he might be able to do it, but he’s only playing like 1/2 of what Bonham was playing
Who's playing the drum's? Maybe Jason Bonhem should tour .. just a reminder thought

Wonder why, no purdie shuffle ? Carter one of the better drummers on the beat . Must of wanted his own spin .
Abviously the drummer can’t play the proper groove this is a basic beat he is playing. The rest of the band is doing great though
