In the beginning Kreisler was to shy to say that he composed the pieces , so he wrote for instance " Pugnani-arranged by Kreisler ". After the pieces became established and very popular he changed the title saying "Kreisler in style of Pugnani "
He does a beautiful recording with it. Young Menuhin does a greek tragedy with this piece. All the pain, despair of life for humanity he put in that recording.

It probably has much more to do with the recording set up than the interpretation.
The piano part is very much just supportive with simple chordal accompaniment.
