Better than I thought the video would be. I chuckled at the "while we have it apart.." additional mods. Earl made the shop a bit of extra coin that day. APR makes a nice DP, but I do think it'd be nicer if it was designed to take advantage of the OE bracket like IE does with their DP. GTI with a tune and DP is a whole new car. Dang all the OE parts for the other mods were removed to install the clutch, shame you did have them swap those out.
Cool I bought my first VW this week a mk7.5 GTI SE with DSG I need to get 600 miles on it within next view weeks because I'm getting APR stage 2 with the R turbo upgrade in a couple weeks. I'm trying to find out the widest tires I can put on the car to put the power to the ground. Could you tell me or link me with the size of wheels and tires? Any information on suspensions for road courses? I'm leaning toward putting stop tech brakes on the car. I think 18×8.5 wheels with 245 40 r18 are the widest I can use, but I'm not sure. Thanks
@@stangtrax You'll fit 245's no problem but you need a high positive offset wheel to fit if you lower a lot or you'll rub. I'm gonna be running 225 toyo r1r tires to compensate for the width and power on my custom ko4 mk5
Good to see GRD here. Took my Tiguan there for the full APR stage 2 and a pile of repairs it kept needing. Next up is my new 2019 GTI that replaced the Tiguan :)
Yes you could go crazy, stage 4 500hp supercar fast blah blah.. We see people doing it all the time. But those videos are about the craziness and being over the top. This is about the love for cars. An unconditional love. Awesome video guys, thanks!
I like that Earl said to fix that leaking main seal now, while it was wide open and visible. Imagine having to do this all over to install the down pipe, yuk. With that tune driving on winter streets will be a new experience. Have fun in their garage series.
Great video! I just got a 15 mk7 and on the fence about a tune. Apr stage 1 is close to 800$ installed near me. I'm in NJ. Is it a big difference? How's your fuel mileage? And with the downpipe is it loud inside the car with done? I appreciate any answered questions!
Jason, I have a '17 GTI that the turbo just detonated on at 47,000 miles so there's certainly later model years that are susceptible to blow. That said, VW is going to be replacing it under the drivetrain warranty so there's really no crying over spilled milk. I'm now considering APR stage 1 now, as it's going to be working with a fresh turbo. Loved the video, looking forward to seeing what's next for yours!
Yes, I fully expect at some point that it will blow. Question for you. When your's blew, was there any collateral damage or was it just a matter of replacing the turbo?
I have early model(2015) 2 door with dsg and stage 1 APR. Been tuned since 2-3k miles(bought it new traded in a gas guzzler 2011 BMW x5 xdrive 50i) not a single issue yet. Love the duality of the car it can be a beast and a fuel sipper if you want(my personal best 45mpg). I heard dog bone helps with wheel spin and puts down power better but you get a lot of vibration at idle. Can you attest to that? Thanks.
Great video Jason, I don’t have GTI but I do have a a 2016 Jetta Sport with a 1.8tsi engine and I have a stage 1 APR tune on it and I love it. I have 17yr old son so I haven’t done stage 2 yet. I also have a automatic transmission and even with that it flies. Have fun with it.
I was really confused with the upgrade selection at the beginning of the vid. It made sense when you said you were going stage 2. Its kind of like they knew ahead of time otherwise upgrading the clutch for stage with stage 1 mods would have been odd.
I really appreciate this video a lot because of the APR rep explaining stuff. They did not do a before and after dyno? I know dynos can be misleading, too. I just got a new mk7.5 and my first mod was weather tec mats, lol. I'm not doing stage 1 I'm getting a stage 2 with is38 turbo in a few weeks.
Your music editor needs a volume control. Thhe msic blares over the speaking, and destroys the contect of the show. . It is always way to loud for the rest of othe video Just turn it down, give us a break..
hey jason had a question, how much did this all cost at GRD? the stage 2 tune, with downpipe (which one did you use again), and the transmission setup and the dogbone mount? thanks!
Straight to Stage 2! I went cosmetics first & saving for the performance part, your going to love the power & I hope the burnout at the end was when u went over the 500 mark lol
I have 1.4 tsi jetta 6 2012. I would like to swap it out for a 2.0 tsi dsg. With some suspension ad brake mods. I'm based is in South Africa. I use this car as a daily driver.
@@tk-uq3kd Those bolts are one time use/torque yield. If you don't replace with new ones, they will back out.. causing axle damage. You cannot re-torque the same bolts, they will not hold the torque setting. Better change them before you end up with a 2k axle repair bill like I did.
Just bought an R and am highly contemplating stage 2, just concerned about warranty and also emissions lol, did they mention anything about passing emissions to you??
Question for everyone: Where do you go to drive your car to push the limits? I want to do road courses, so if anyone out there does please share a link or a VW club that does track days I can join. Thanks and be safe.
really seems like a bad idea to stream the tune into the ECU rather than downloading a file and loading up offline. hopefully it's doing checksums along the way
yeah holy crap talk about upselling! i ended up getting something similar for stage 1, but yeah they just keep on adding parts to sell to this guy! talk about upselling to stage 2. stage 2 = downpipe plus tune. they literally just skipped stage 1 on my man

Oh yeah just throw that down pipe in there, its not too much more expensive, you know, costs more than your actual tune. I think they are trying to say the average person shouldn't be trying to change out there clutch. Which I would have to agree with after watching what they had to do for the install.
goes in for a stage 1 tune but comes out with a dog boune mount, stage 2 tune and APR downpipe! :O WHOA
Jason's face when he sees a new shiny part installed in his GTI is priceless 😂
My GLI was there getting work done the same day you were. Pretty cool people there and Adrian helped me out a lot as well

Night and day difference after the tune yes?!

whats better tesla or golf gti?
Where is this company located?

Great video, but I'm having a bit of an existential crisis: Isn't the Golf GTI FWD? Why is it spinning the rear wheels?? Am I missing something? 😱
The front tires spun up and created the smoke, the video cut to the outside camera as the rear wheels passed the smoke from the front tires ;)

He was talking about APR
I see why APR charge so much to tune cars.

of course, they don't support at home tuning. That's how they make money!

that’s lot of money and effort doing the tuning... If that’s my money, I will go A35 or Golf R directly😂
$750 tune vs $10-14k more for the R.....
