A month ago I rescued a ginger kitten, around 3-4 weeks old. (my dog found him on our front porch all alone, in the cold, the kitten was snuggling up with my dog, Bella, he seemed lost) He was the sweetest most loving little kitten I had ever met, would never leave our sight and loved to cuddle up in my hair. We didn’t even need to litter train him, he would naturally, only poop/pee in the cardboard litter box we set up for him. Sadly we couldn’t keep him for long since half of my family is allergic (severely) to cats :( but we found a loving family who was ready to adopt him and he’s really happy in his present home :)

when I first finally graduated my first fosters to a more "normal" litter, I was SO glad I remembered not to get clumping because immediately one of them began eating it. I panicked and solved it by digging a poopie from the trash to toss in there and put a smell that made him understand what it was for XD
It worked but it wasn't pleasant by any means. They had only been on yesterday's news before that (and also been going into cardboard trays, but they got too big for them) so I guess he just got a bit confused at first. I'm glad it only had to be done once

Here's how I trained my 9 kittens to use the litter box. Momma cat brought them home at around 3 weeks. We keep a litter box in the workshop for outside cats. Maybe a week or 2 after the kittens moved in to the workshop they discovered the litter box and started using it. The litter box is a little tall and good size, the kittens had to literally climb in it to use it, I made a step for them when I saw them using it. Not saying this woman's tips aren't good, but if you put a cat or kitten in a room and show them the litter box, most of them will naturally use it. In my case, I hadn't even shown them the litter box. Momma cat was originally a stray or abandoned, she will be getting spayed, but remain outside because I have 3 inside cats.

Mine is 11 weeks and won't use it. I've put him in multiple times, helped him dig etc. We did just get him yesterday but he Seems slow as he is underweight for his age and kept in a small breeder box until now. The breeders did not litter train. He peed in the bed last night. I'm hoping some of these tips work but I'm very worried.

I just found a kitten on the freeway a few days ago. He's been to the vet, had a clean bill of health, so on and so forth, but he's 9 weeks old and didn't have a bowel movement until today.
And even though I set out a litter box for him, he's been urinating on piles of clothes that he finds on my floor (I've since stopped leaving piles of clothes on the floor), and today for his first bowel movement in three days he decided to go on the couch cover.
The couch cover can be washed, that's not a problem, and I'm grateful he's having movements because that's what's important. But I'm so grateful for this video because it explains everything concisely and thoroughly without dragging on and on.
Thank you so much, you do wonderful work, and I'm very very grateful for your help.

Jenna Poole I'm getting a 9 week old kitten tomorrow, though you probably won't respond early I still want to ask. Do you think my kitten will already be litter trained and all I have to do is put her in the litter box? I'm not sure, my first cat was 1 year old and was already trained.

When I was young, we had a bunch of Kittens outside ( Stray, the mother was so damn sweet and lovable, she gave birth around our house and trusted us with the Kittens completely ) . We would sometimes take them inside, I don't know how old they were, but apart from one that just refused to move and peed as soon as I picked him up, they weren't hard to train. I just watched and when they started scratching at the floor, scoop them up and place them in the box, before scooping some of the litter with my finger ( It was clean ) . I miss them, we gave them all away once they were old enough.

Thank you for the informative video! I know this was posted a year ago, but its never too late to say thank you.
I'm writing this Oct 29th-18 (for the people who will see this months or years from now), and today my dad and I found some wild kittens living in our open garage. There are two stray cats that live around us, and we assume they're the parents. My dad and I didn't get close to the kittens, not wanting to alarm them or make the parents upset, but from what we saw, there is at least two kittens. They look around 3-4 weeks old, eyes open and ears up. We were unsure of what to do with them, we want whats best for their survival.
What we're planning is to keep a distant eye on them, make sure they are doing well, but if something happens, we could gather them up and take them to the vet or something. But as of the standing now, we assume the mommy cat will take good care of them.
I watched this video just in case if we need to take them in.
If anyone reading this has some suggestions in what we can do for them, please let me know! I wanna make these little kittens feel safe and welcome around our house and whatever seems the best for them, please inform me!
(P.S. We feed the parents normal cat food and give them water, the kittens are in a box in the open garage, but I live in a fairly cold, very rainy place. They have shelter, but if there is anything we could do, knowing would be nice.)

I just recused two kittens a couple of weeks ago they are around 4 months old. Today I just rescued a kitten from under my pop pops shed that just appeared it is around 4 months old too. A couple of weeks ago there a was cat on the road that had passed and it looked like the kitten that I found and I think it is his/her mom. It took me a couple of days with a couple of cans of tuna because that is what I had on me then the kitten came right up to me this morning and was loving on me. This kitten has never been socialized before yet it cuddles with me and let’s me carry him/her. I love it and am fixing it plenty of tlc. I haven’t been able to tell it’s gender because it is still a bit nervous and also fluffy so it’s harder. Anyways I just wanted to say your videos help me so much. Right now I have 4 cats 3 of them being 4 month old kittens all of them being rescues. You inspire me.Keep up the good work you are changing the lives of so many cats and kittens and it’s amazing!!😊❤️

That happened with me in the past, I would think "I would love to have a cat someday but now it's not the perfect time because of XYZ", there's never a "perfect time". Now, all of a sudden, this female street cat slowly started to appear in our house and over time she chose us and chose our house to live in (we bribed her with lots of food LOL) This little ball of furr is teaching me so much and showing me feelings that I didn't even knew existed inside of me. I am openly declaring love for this little ball of furr on the internet, what the hell am I even doing? Anyway, what I'm trying to say is this: just do it, don't think about it. Stop delaying life. This is what this cat has been teaching me.

Whoever foster my two cats (they were bottle babies) did a _really_ good job of teaching them! They're both really through but Mister takes it to a whole other level. When he poops, he'll sometimes be in the litter box covering for like 5 minutes! When we first adopted them, he would watch his sister use the litter box and then he would go in to make sure everything was covered, even though she did a good job covering. 😂 A few times he would try to go in before she was done, but we started redirecting his attitude elsewhere and he stopped.

Thank you for this video! Currently fostering for the first time - a momma and 4 kittens. All the kittens go in the litter box to do their business, except for one. She squats down right next to it and does her thing. I have to rush to move her to the litter box whenever I see her looking for her place, and it seems to be working so far. I hope she will learn from her siblings and mom soon. The kittens are only 6 weeks old, so I'm not too worried yet ❤️

Hi I help older cats and sometimes I have to retrain them to litter. Sometime their past homes only had one box, or they had multiple cats so the older cat became less confident and stoped using the litter. Your kitten litter training works the same for retracing senior cats. And yes the litter needs to be cleaned more than once a day. For older cats I recommend 2 boxes for 1 cat, 3 boxes for 2 cats and so on, insure they are all in separate locations too. This way there is always a safe box to go to and there will always bee a free box to use. My boy Tiger likes to pee in one box and poop in the other. He will poop outside the box if the litter has a sent. Hope this helps to add to Hanna litter training babies video. Thank you again for all the great kitten care videos.

Dat Max I've been volunteering at a cat shelter for a few years, where I bottle feed baby kittens. In my personal experience, all baby kittens like to be held and played with. Sometimes, some kittens will get to be a couple months old and prefer some more independent space. But, the more u hold a kitten when they are tiny, they more likely they are to think that's normal. That's been my experience.

I volunteer at our local Animal Shelter, and my biggest pet peeve is the "accepted" use of clumping litter for young kittens. I have to clean impacted, hard clumped litter from between their paws. One kitten even developed an access. Kittens also aren't always good about keeping their bottoms out of the litter, so I have to wash hardened clumps from their butts. This impaction can cause infections and death! Please, PLEASE use clay litter, shredded paper, or another NON-clumping litter for little kittens!
