POV: you watched Top Gun Maverick the night before the flight
TWICE, LOL!!!!!
Boring movie in my opinion
@@Orikix but is great tho i wanted to watch again
@@Orikix bro u have to be trolling idek how its possible to dislike that movie
@@dctungsten idk, maybe it has something to do with the fact that I didn't grow up watching the first in the series, but I just think that the action in the movie is a bit boring.
Hi Stefan! I love your video’s, but i have a little tip to improve them. Try to use a polarizer on your lens of your camera, they make them for all sorts of camera’s. This will remove the glare reflections you see in the curved window from the cockpit! This will make it easier for your eyes to look through the window as a viewer.
Thanks for making these video’s in the first place they are beautiful!
does that work for a gopro? does it eliminate all reflections?
@@DCSMustang cant eliminate all reflections, no, but getting an ND8 filter for your go pro is highly recommended for filming outdoors in most sunlit situations
the polarization angle of the reflected light depends on the surface angle to the camera. With a polarization filter that is linear you can only eliminate one angle's reflection while worsening the others. Polarized glasses or camera filters work well in conditions with mostly horizontal reflections (e.g. on road or water) but since the cupola is shaped round, reflections come from a 180° spread of different angles. You could only opt to filter out the side reflections to see the ground better, but worsening the ceiling reflections with worse views to the front and up.
@@gabba279 ah okay, thanks Gabba makes sense. Didn’t think of that. Thanks for explaining!
@@gabba279 I tried a polarizer on my Panasonic GH5 camera in the cockpit and I got a very strange looking canopy.
I’m a hang glider pilot, that final glide and how you started climbing up by the mountains was tight! Incredible just how efficient these gliders are. A big fan of your flying 👍
It was pretty tight indeed. But totally controlled to avoid the accident. He had stored up a lot of energy by going very fast. Even if there was no more thermal he would have had enough energy to cross the whole mountain and arrive at his destination. Great Pilot !!
I think the graphics improves with the latest update, even the human in the cabin looks really realistic
They even added a pretty realistic ATC audio!
What game is this and where can I install it? Oh wait, is this the new x plane?

Looks like Minecraft
War thunder
In August 94 my former Boss, in this time one of the best 5 Open Class pilots Worldwide died in a crossing at Rheinwaldhorn. Stefan, watch your step!
I was looking very hard to watch airspeed and vsi. You certainly were carrying lots of speed and the ridges were giving you all the lift you needed. What a fun flight! The only time I got nervous was in the circuit!! I’m used to L/D of 3 (787) so seeing such a shallow circuit made me think you wouldn’t make it. I need to get back up in a glider!! Thanks for giving us this piece of eye candy.
Thanks for the comment!
That sound of the vario is heaven, remember times when a single ridge saved me from landing out
One of the best gliding videos I've seen. Really shows what gliders can do. Nicely flown too!
A few questions:
1) How can this glider travel so far without losing altitude?
2) What happens if you lose altitude and you're over a heavily wooded area?
3) Why can gliders go so far but if a small plane loses power it falls fairly quickly?
Great stuff, and I know nothing about these things!
1) Good glide performance, high mass and using lift generated by thermals or ridge lift like in this video
2) You always need to have a plan B to get safely to an outlanding field or airfield. Also speed is additional energy which increases the chance to get further...
3) Gliders are designed for maximum glide performance and have a larger wingspan.
1) Lift and weight for a glider is vastly different. For instance a light engine powered aircraft will fly 10 feet forward for every foot lost without power, or a ratio of 10:1. A glider is designed to fly say 100 feet for every 1 foot lost, or a ratio of 100:1
2) It relies on pilot skill, knowing the terrain and listening to the stall warner, or the moaning device you can hear, which let's the pilot know if he's ascending or descending with the thermals.
3) Your definitely in trouble.
Thanks for the explanations and insight....this helps. It's really amazing how far these machines can travel!
The biggest reason a typical aircraft can't maintain altitude the way a glider can comes down to the wing design. You'll notice that on the glider, the wings are very long, very thin, and chord is quite short from front to back as compared to a powered aircraft which will have much more stubby wings, with a very long and thick chords. The difference in design has multiple impacts or else you might ask why a commercial airliner doesn't have such glide ability. The drag around the fuselage is another component. A much larger aircraft will necessarily have to move much more air meaning more drag, even with more efficient wings.
@@MichaelRainabbaRichardson Thanks. So that makes it sound like normal aircraft are in trouble if they go into a glide (see the 1977 Lynyrd Skynyrd crash for an example). So gliders are so much safer fliers then it would seem? They always have to land in a glide :). Cool, I'm learning!
I loved the raw quality. Just the flight. Gorgeous.
Wow, the speed of this glider is very impressive and scenery in BH simply amazing. Well done Stefan!
😎👏👍 🇧🇦
You had me glued to my chair for a while...Impressive flying skills man!
Wow, that was an exciting run.
What impressed me the most (at 5:20), was the amount of turbulence the big boys with the fiberglass wings can handle. If you tried that in a paraglider, you would be well wrapped in your canopy and ready for your burial!
Beautiful Flight, great glider as the pilot. I love BiH I have been there a long time ago . I felt in love about that Land, immediately. Lookig above the mauntain through your awesome video Flight It was really good! Thank you and Blue skies!
Thank you, Max!
That really was some ridge. Not the first time that the pilot had made the approach from there to the field. Very nicely judged with always a touch of energy to spare. Thank you for posting. Reminded me of happy times many years ago in my beloved Blanik.
Really nice video. But you and I both know you were carrying plenty of energy and you were never really worried about making it back. (If I'm wrong let me know) Brings back memories of mountain flying in my Nimbus 2c. In America we have an expression which is "sweating bullets". Or "dancing on the edge". I have done both. But having said all that I did enjoy this video. And saved it to show people unfamiliar with the vicissitudes of gliding.
Yes, I had enough energy to make a safe final glide. But it is always a little bit of scary and spectacular aswell.
I am not a pilot. Just a casual viewer. I can not get over how much energy you seem to carry, you go so fast! Always enjoy your videos.
Beautiful flight, beautiful hill-countour flying, and a lovely valley airfield.
Great landing too!
The beeping when he ascends is so satisfying lol.
Livno is an absolutely amazing place. both for you guys and for us, RC pilots :)
Btw, have you seen japanese movie Blue Thermal?
I can only agree!! No, don´t know
Hello
Where can I find this movie please??
Impressive, I'd say that was "well planned" and definitely well flown
I love this perspective the most
Ein wunderschöner Flug wie immer, doch an den Grenzen, an den Bergen und an den Winden.
Landing is the most fearful part in the video
7:53 nice crosswind...
Amazing flight, thanks for posting
That looks like such an amazing time.
Looks like fun. I am not a pilot but it looked like good flying to me.
Awesome!
A bit on the edge on the final. But, you know what they say: 'If you're not living on the edge you're taking to much space'. Great flying Stefan, take care!
Bro's about to perform a reverse ridge crossing with a glider
Krasses Video. Wieder so ein Krimi. Aber man weiß ja, dass es gut ging 😊. Vielen Dank fürs Zeigen!
Gerne!
What a super fun final glide!
Better than Top Gun no engine always better, great video thanks for sharing these fantastic videos Stefan, I am big fan of you flying !!!👌🇪🇸
wow, how far was that glide Stefan? nearly 9 mins of speed.... Im guessing 30-40ks?.... woohoo... love from New Zealand :)
Ha faltado muy poco, parecía que aterrizaría sobre los árboles. Un gran saludo compañero de RUclips.
What a stunning sight to have been on the ground in the gap when you flew close by!
We flew the same way today again and discussed the same!
Beautiful flying! Happy skies to you from California, USA. :)
Thank you! I will be in California in September 👍
Looked like a good day, Nice 0 sink to a few hundred up give confidence. Well done!
Great Go Pro POV Stefan, more of this please.
It´s DJI Action 2 POV. Thank you!
@@SteFly Either way it looks good, gives a more immersive experience. Looking forward for the next one, fly safe.
Impressive POV. I’ve just bought a DJI Action 2 camera, for fitting in my treasured Ka6e, (to replace a Contour +) but have some concern about the magnetic field affecting the compass / XCVario magnetometer. Not that I use the compass much, but what has been your experience. I am aware the the compass/magnetometer are both nearly 1m away from the camera, but would be interested in whether you’ve noticed any impact.
@@johnworeilly4051 At the moment I don´t have any compass or electric compass in my glider. The overheating issue of the Action 2 is the bigger problem.
I still can't understand how these gliders maintain speed and the ability to still climb, without a power source
Wind generates updraft on the ridge and the other possibility are thermals
Gliders harvest power from rising air. The sun makes rising convection and wind. Wind interacting with terrain produces rising air.
Great video. I think you can try using a gopro polarizing filter to get rid of the reflections on the canopy. But I'm not completely sure, I'm just comparing with polarized glasses.
I don´t like the effects of a polarizing filter... then the canopy looks strange.
Question 1:
Is his left hand on the parachute level?
Question #2:
Does the thermal map help his following?
NICE VIEW 🛩️BEST TALENT🏆BEST OF LUCK ❤️
Freaking awesome!! And just enough energy to pull up to 500ft at the end!
How fast were you flying over the last butte? Was that L/D max? Thanks for sharing!
About 220 kph... no at this high speed you don´t have the max L/D but if you have the height you want to convert it in speed ;)
Mom i want Top Gun Maverick.
Mom: We have Top Gun Maverick at home
-Top Gun Maverick at home.
Very nice Stefan!
You should definitely invest in a polarized filter then you wouldn't see the shell as much ;)
Très sympa ce petit vol !
Wow my country is so beautiful. How are laws for flying in bosnia.
L = C_L * rho * v^2/2 if I remember correctly
Stephan "smooth operator".this one also should get 25 millions views splurge...
Love from the Appalachias.
Peace!
stunning!
The only thing this video is missing
DANGER ZONE music in the background !
Is this a glider without any motor? you have to be joking this things are so capable i think i just found a new hobby!!
Yes, without motor!
Wow!! What is the glide ratio of a glider like this?? Must be unreal!!
The ASG29 has a best glide ratio of 50:1. In this case I'm using the lift generated by the wind blowing onto the ridge 🤙🏼
Nice video! Tried to trace your flightpath using landmarks and identifying them on Google satellite view. You should give Farma Podhum a shoutout ;)
Good Wave running....
Ridge running ;)
Es mejor video de glayder que soy ver. Bueno piloto. Fuerte nerviosa sistema y caracter tiene este ombre.
Nice ride, though a bit noisy!
5:09 what speed? Anyone? Great cruise with thermals
What speed were you going? It seemed so fast.
Flying like Topgun with 80kts and 1G
I think an FA18 Super Hornet is somewhat quicker than that,
The new Minecraft update is looking pretty clean
That stick sure seems a little loose
Tiene el joystick en un lugar sugerente, me recuerda a wing commander
That looked hair raising! Looked like a perfect day.
Wow ! Incredible (period) 👆👉👍
What's the yellow thing his left hand is handling?
Mountain holds you alt nicely :D
Amazing!
Still faster than Rooster can do :)
Sweet jet engine

If it works in Condor, it should work IRL.
What is this thing? It's looks extremely fun to fly.
ASG29 sailplane
Now you just need the plane!...
what was your speed ?
You seem to go very fast !
Increadible :)
Stefan, i've heard or seen you mention barometers before can you link or do a vid to explain the advantage, if any and how you use their readings in real time, or are pilots wasting their time with them now.
please give info which aircraft you fly... i don't have a clue from this (not even the descr).
Why does it sound like there’s/their’s a jet engine on the glider?
@@randomguyinanglider Ok
A few risks, maybe? That was a bit nerve wracking!! I know you plan well. But, wow! Thanks, Stefan.
You really should know what you are doing. Then the risks are acceptable.
@@SteFly experience! Which you have a wealth of. "Considered risk". Absolutely!
He had plenty of speed (energy to get him to a safe field)
Where is the Top Gun Soundtrack?
I'm waiting for the part where you have to go against a 5th gen fighter.

I played it at double speed and it didn't look like top gun
I thought it's not allowed to fly on such low elevation with glider..
Pretty random but I'll take it. Greetings from Bosnia 🇧🇦❤️. ⰒⰑⰈⰄⰓⰀⰂ ⰋⰈ ⰁⰑⰔⰐⰅ!
how do they make these sailplane trailers? what do they use for the main frame pieces? angles? how do you make a light trailer 20' long that doesn't bend?
Very few glider pilots make their own trailers, we buy from professionals who know what they are doing. Plus in the UK they need to be road-worthy so built to a minimum legal standard. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and it is both protecting your glider and transporting it safely. Worth spending the required money. I wouldn’t consider building my own, just as no-one would think of building their own glider!
@@johnworeilly4051 LOL, it's just a trailer, they're not hard to build, not like a sailplane, learn how to weld and build things (minimum legal standard....again LOL, it's just a trailer, you can do it. The answer to my question I've discovered is they can either incorporate a truss into the side walls or they make them with monocoque type construction.
What is the typical cruise speed of a glider?
@@randomguyinanglider Thank you :)
if mav would've flown like this, no one would've see eather of the movies.
...dreamy...thank you...one of these days...
which aircraft is this?
Carrier break!
Interesting your circuit call out, "sierra Lima, downwind runway 30 right gear down and locked"
.
Is that a new or European standard? or a Bosnia standard?
.
We (in Canada) would typically call out, "xx traffic, Sierra Lima, right downwind for 30 right, xx traffic"
.
I do like that you are calling out that your gear is down and locked (you know why).
In Europe we don't call "xx traffic" a second time. Other than this, your call is correct ;)
Cool aber aufpassen: Es gibt hin und wieder Springbäume die es auf Winglets abgesehen haben… 😉🤙
Just found your channel, what are you flying ?
Disregard my question, hard to imagine you maintaining that much speed and a glider unless you have propulsion and a lot of extra framework
