I said the same thing a couple videos ago! Watching the Long Pond video of her and the guys discussing the meaning behind the lyrics followed by them recoding the song in the studio is the best! Helps so much in understanding her lyrics!
I praise you for appreciating and giving the time to understand the lyrics, it means alot for us Swities. Hoping for more TS video reaction.🤘🏻❤ Folklore and Evermore
Literally stumbled across your channel like an hour ago when I was recommend your reaction to “Death by a Thousand Cuts.” I was impressed, and subscribed. I’m excited to see more from you. Not just Taylor Swift content, but other things too.
As a photographer, I would love to see your reaction to All Too Well the short film. The lighting is beautiful. She also wrote and directed the short film.
@@phishfanI’d actually suggest doing both but separately! It’s hard to catch the lyrics and the song itself while watching the short film, and you’re likely to get something extra from each experience (make sure the song is the ten minute version though).
I've read the book and when this first came out I was so surprised by how true it is to the book and the story, the overall feeling of the song and the story it is so incredibly accurate
Very underrated gem. Multiple different genres. You may be interested to know that the book/story was written to take place in the 1950’s. So, when she and Aaron were producing it, they only used instruments from that era, 1950’s or prior. To really make the sound of the song embody the timeframe of the movie. She does a lot of different styles of music. I’ve seen Death by a Thousand Cuts be suggested, and yes, its a nice one, Live From Paris. A recent one is also underrated like this one called Timeless. She wrote this when she was about 19yrs old (around 2009) and it was just now released as a vault track on her Speak Now Taylor’s Version album that she just released this July. Timeless (Taylors Version). I was lucky enough to catch this live in Denver when she played it. Its a lovely love song.
Underrated song, and Im glad you liked it! You will find that even her pop songs have great lines hidden in plain sight. Just to add one more to the list, her live performance of Dear John from her Speak Now tour is all the raw sass and lyricism you could want from it. You can review the lyrics later so you dont miss a thing :D
I love when people start realizing Taylor is more than the public has made her out to be and that she’s actually a very talented songwriter. Definitely try to watch the long pond studio sessions of the folklore songs! My favorite from folklore is Hoax :)
It's such a compelling song. I read the book this movie was based on and the song is just like a poetic retelling, she nailed it. I think you would enjoy her performance of "Wildest Dreams" for the Grammy Museum, great electric guitar version!
Love your Taylor reactions. Appreciate the sincerity. Aaron Dessner is a super talented musician in the band, The National. Taylor was a big fan and contacted him during the pandemic to see if he wanted to work with her remotely. This collab has created some gorgeous music. Aaron's instrumentals and Taylor's lyrics are a huge part of Folklore and Evermore and several side projects, like Carolina. Yes, Folklore is definitely a great direction since you appreciate lyrics.
SO happy you reacted to this! I absolutely adore this song - both sonically and for its lyricism. I've never seen anyone else react to it and I wish more people would. I appreciate your insights and enjoy watching/listening to you - dad jokes included. :)
Just an interesting note: The story is set in the 1950's so she only used instruments that were available at the time. Also, songs were recorded as a continuous take (no splicing bits together) so that's the way she recorded this song. I think it is hauntingly beautiful.
Damn if you're a photographer you're going to LOVE this movie. Splendid shots and frames. You can feel they actually went outside and not CGI bullshit as we see too often these days. For Taylor-related content I suggest August + the live version at Long Pond studio. A gem.
Yes, you are correct, it is about a murder case. Also banjo is another instrument she plays besides guitar and piano, she’s done many songs with Aaron Dessner
This seems to be a pretty complete list. I had no idea she listed so many unreleased songs with ASCAP! But I shouldn't have been too surprised: she got a writing contract with Sony/ATF at @ 13, and a recording deal with RCA at 14 (which she dumped for Big Machine at 15!) If you sort it by year, it will resolve into (mostly) albums; but she has featured with several other artists, and written several soundtracks. Those will be listed as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_by_Taylor_Swift#
Taylor was asked to write two songs in 2011-12 when she was only 21-22 for the movie The Hunger Games: Safe and Sound and Eyes Open - both really good songs. Safe and Sound even won a Grammy in 2013 and she performed it with the Civil Wars. The music video is haunting and beautiful so I recommend you watch it. It's kind of similar to this one so I think you'll like it.
Thank you for the content! I think you will enjoy folklore and evermore, the sister albums she dropped in 2020 during the shutdown of everything. In these albums she plays a lot with storytelling and point of view, writing about one story through the perspective of different fictional characters! It's quite interesting and fun to listen to reading the lyrics and trying to make the connections on different songs.
Yes to Folklore long pond sessions & Evermore. Im gonna put Red out there too as an earlier album of Taylor’s that showcases her lyricism, strong vocals and musical dexterity. Loving your reactions! ❤
I love this song and I’m glad you got to listen to it! She’s got some serious range, but I bet Folklore and Evermore will be your favorites from the two videos I’ve seen. It was fun watching you watch it. Take care!
Just stumbled upon your account and I've been hooked since! I love seeing you react to different kinds of music! I would love to see you react to all too well the 10 minute version short film that she directed by herself. It's probably the most beloved Taylor swift song among the swifts, therefor I it would be interesting to get your perspective on the song and film :D
I love your approach to reacting to new music; it's almost like you're covering a piece of literature, looking up the stories behind these songs. Subscribed!
Aaron Dessner co-wrote 2/3 of the songs with Taylor on Folklore & Evermore. Folklore won AOTY and Evermore was nominated for it. Aaron tends to do the musical stuff and Taylor writes the lyrics. Aaron is the only person she works with that she writes to track which I think brings something special out in her because the music she hears from Aaron evokes emotions she then writes lyrics with those emotions in mind (that is shown more in Folklore: Long Pond - thing is Ling Pond is very stripped back but does a great job of explaining each song. But the studio album is unbelievable.)
It's funny because I think not even Swifties are giving her enough credit in this case. People keep hammering home about her writing the lyrics, and of course she is an amazing lyricist. But I think people are often failing to mention that she's also writing 100% of these vocal melodies on top of the tracks. It takes a lot of musical sensibility to be able to trace those melodies to the existing tracks so seamlessly. I'm not even a hardcore Swifte. I'm just someone who appreciates her music to a reasonable amount. But I feel like even her major fans don't acknowledge her melodic sensibilities nearly enough.
Another Swiftie here. Taylor and Aaron scoured around to find a guitar from the actual era the book and movie take place in, I think the 50s but don’t quote me. I can’t remember much more than that, but they must have secured a particular type of string as well. That’s why the guitar sound is so unique - it’s not as live as guitars tend to sound today. I can tell you any Swiftie is going to appreciate seeing the light dawn in a non-Swiftie! I have seen her lyrics analyzed as poetry on other channels, just like I used to do in college. The woman is brilliant. I appreciate your perceptive comments and that you say a lot in a few words. I just subscribed but I gotta tell you I tried listening to one or two of your more metal reactions and I couldn’t get into them. You might find yourself with more than one audience. Not a bad thing. 😊

I encourage you to accept the swifties advice as they help lead you down the Taylor Swift rabbit hole. Once you start the journey it's hard to stop. You'll see.
My recommendation: Cornelia St... from the same Paris live show as Death by a Thousand Cuts… I think you reacted to that one & Daylight already, maybe? Alternatively, you might enjoy her Tiny Desk performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts? She also sings Death by a Thousand Cuts in that performance, and it’s good too.
don't know if swifties have already started asking for it but you have to react to we are never ever getting back together (live version), first listen to the taylor's version (studio version that taylor owns, the other ones were "stolen" by her ex label; so listen to the taylor's version that is very pop, she made it super pop cause her ex hated pop music and she also wanted it to be a radio hit so he WOULD have to hear it; then listen to the 1989 tour live, it's sort of a rock version, to me it shows her musicality, how she can navigate through genres and also how she owns her songs not only literaly, but she can shift her songs into different things and sounds and make then have completely different feels to it; i don't know i just love the rock version
I love your reactions! You do a fantastic job. I agree with everyone recommending folklore and evermore (especially the Long Pond Sessions for folklore), but I would also suggest sampling some of her giant stadium tour productions to get a sense of her range as an artist. Along these lines, her Reputation Stadium Tour movie is iconic. I would recommend the entire movie, but here are a few samples: "Ready For It" is the first song and this clip includes a 2 minute intro that I think is worth seeing for the context: ruclips.net/video/2QJaf6qq8jQ/видео.html "Don't Blame Me" is one of many iconic songs: ruclips.net/video/LAzLTY_V6rM/видео.html This clip of "Getaway Car" includes a brief poetic intro that was shown on the giant concert screens (probably while Taylor was doing a costume change?) and I think it is worth including in any clip of Getaway Car. ruclips.net/video/6I7qQhrkgaM/видео.html BTW, she also does a couple of acoustic sets in every stadium tour, so I would recommend those as well, but for the moment I just wanted to introduce you to some of her mega-star big-production moments to serve as contrast to what you've seen so far.
i hope you react to the studio and then the long pound sessions of the folklore songs, like you did with death by a thousand cuts!! folklore is, in my opinion, her best work so far ❤
This film drove a lot of Carolinians nuts because of the horrible geography references (but still worth a watch) - this song was clearly done intentionally and well-researched so as usual, Taylor doesn't do anything without understanding the context and doing it right (FYI not an official swiftie but, facts) - anyway I've lived in NC 98% of my life and the Appalachia comment you made was spot on. Believe it or not, there are actually blue crawdads in mountain streams but as far as I know not so much anywhere else (maybe other than the coast) but most people know them from Louisiana, of course. But I digress lol
please folklore and evermore PLEASE PLEASE IT’LL CHANGE EVERYTHING FOR YOU I PROMISE WITH MY CATS LIFE PLEEEEASEEEEEEEEEEE YOU HAVE NOOO IDEA THE THINGS THE GIRL CAN DO WITH A PEN ON HER HAND!!!!
Personally I think the movie was shot beautifully, but it was also awfully clichéed, and over-the-top glossy - sure, you're dirt-poor, but always beautifully dressed and looking like a model ready for a catwalk, why not... and nothing really made me feel connected to any of the persons.
I haven't read the book nor seen the film, but I got this impression as well from the trailer. It could've been so much better if there was a rawness or roughness to it, instead of being "glossy." It's the reason why I just didn't bother to see it. I love Taylor and this song, though. 😊
Definitely check out “all too well” the ten minute longer version. So good. There’s a short film she wrote and directed for the song. She said she wanted it to be bigger than just a music video. 🩵you give great reviews. Thank you for giving her a chance 🩷💜
She recorded this in one take (like they did back then) and only used instruments that were available in 1953 (when the story takes place).
Folklore and Evermore are top-tier in writing and storytelling!! If you do Folklore, please do the long pond sessions of Folklore.❤
