She is a once in a generation level songwriter with an almost unique ability to reach out and hit you right in the gut. I'm 53 and she is the best songwriter I've heard bar none....
At the end of the recorded versions she says I wanna be defined by the things that I love, not the things that I hate, not the things that I'm afraid of. I just think that you are what you love.
We Swifties only ever want people to listen to the lyrics, she is an amazing story teller. Her best stories are on the albums Folklore & Evermore. Thank you for paying attention to the lyrics.
Daylight was written about age 28-29 when she had finally found love (she had been with JOe for nearly 7 years until just this spring they broke up). Daylight is about once thinking love was “black and white” or that love was “burning red”, but she realized finding real love that love is actually golden, like daylight, which can be gold in color. She uses a lot of colors in her lyrics as metaphors. And, its also a metaphor for waking up and realizing what real love is, what real love means. After sleeping in a “20 yr dark night”…..seeing the light, seeing daylight. Her live version is better than the album version. If you want another song, this song references another song called RED , in which at the time (age 21) she thought love was “burning red) “all the emotions and feelings that are associated with red). So maybe try that song. its also a self-written song. She also usually co-produces her songs. Its kinda a pop-rock song, but this version she sings it Country with some Country legends. ruclips.net/video/I1BpLAefEt0/видео.html Her best written albums: Folklore Evermore Speak Now Red Midnights
Daylight is the closing song from her 2019 Lover album. The lines about love being black and white or burning red are references to lyrics and themes from previous work, and growing out of those mindsets. Lover was pretty long at 18 songs originally, and a bonus track added recently. At over an hour long, with some emotional and musical ups and downs, getting Daylight as a chill and positive finale was very appreciated after listening from start to finish.
Look into the Long Pond Studio sessions for her Folklore album! And for a lyrical deep dive the obvious choice is the 10 minute version of All Too Well
Taylor is the biggest cat lover so she would love that yours wanted to make an appearance. So much could be said about Taylor’s stardom and success across multiple genres but I think watching simple live performances like this is seeing her at her best. Another great one is from this same Paris concert. The album Lover is about her coming out of a dark period professionally and personally while also falling in love and navigating her first truly adult, long-term relationship. This song is called Cornelia Street and it’s just her on a guitar. ruclips.net/video/Vgt1d3eAm7A/видео.html
subbed for more Taylor! she covers so many genres its truly incredible. her rock cover of we are never getting back together is fun. this song was about her falling in love after a really dark period in her life and some pretty bad relationships, and just coming out of that in general. she is a phenomenal performer and songwriter. cant wait for you to check out more.
If you are into lyrics Folklore (the entire album, if you can watch the long pond sessions, she gives background on each song) Speak Now (she just re-released Taylor’s Version, but that entire album is self written between the ages of 19-20) Red (especially All Too Well, the 10 minute version has a short film she wrote and directed to go with it, or the love Grammy performance….or both 🙏🏻) If you are into rock check out the live performance of We Are Never Getting Back Together from her concert in Sydney Her most recent album Midnights is amazing, there isn’t a bad song on there
Love seeing your face light up when you see or hear the crowd, You clearly understand what an involved audience means to a performer and the joy that brings you :) ( I’m a theater person)
You should react to her albums folklore and evermore (both released in 2020) If you’re into lyrics, they both have some of the most chilling ones you’ll ever hear. Both are storytelling albums you can just get lost in. Taylor refers to them as “sister albums” because they both are folk albums but have distinct differences in the instrumentals/ overall storytelling. They both drew in a whole new audience because they’re both folk albums, whereas her work before was country/pop. I think you would enjoy them both! 😊😊
@@phishfan If you do check out folklore, I cannot recommend enough the Long Pond studio sessions. She talks about each song and what it means to her before performing in an intimate studio setting. It's velvet for the ears.
I recommend her live acoustic performance of Wildest Dreams during her - "Taylor Swift Live at the Grammy Museum in 2015". It's just her and an electric guitar and it's a great version of that song - sadder and more poignant. I recommend you watch the music video too which is spectacular. Another performance I think would impress you is her live performance of We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together during her 1989 tour. That is also very different - more rocknroll - from the original so you should watch the music video of that song too. The music video is one long shot, no cuts. It took 6 hours of rehearsing the choreography and it's really well done.
HI JASMINE! You seriously pulled the TS jukebox lever and got DAYLIGHT for your first listen?! Amazing. My favorite musical genres are progressive rock and Taylor Swift. I’ve subscribed and and here to witness and welcome your journey to becoming a Swiftie.
Looking very forward to your Taylor videos. You may be surprised to learn what we all already know and appreciate about her music and especially lyrics. You seem like such a knowledgeable and pleasant guy. And hey- cats! You can’t spell caTS without TS as Taylor has said. 🎶🐈⬛
Watching all your Taylor videos now :) and subscribing. Appreciate your musician insights and how open minded you are, and that you really pay attention. I recommend songs from her albums Evermore or Folklore. The pond studio version is great
HELLO JASMINE you're already an excellent swiftie if you add cat content! love that daylight was your first, it's so great, and you can eventually look back on it and notice the references
Thank you for reacting to Taylor's video. Happy that you liked it. She is amazing. She covers many genres of music. You've just seen ballad Taylor, playing piano, now check out rock Taylor playing electric guitar. This link is to her rock version of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" from her 1989 World Tour": ruclips.net/video/cZgoJtqa0WE/видео.html . Welcome. I hope that you will react to more of her videos and music. I could not remember of the video where she played 12-string guitar.
I think you'll enjoy her live performances with her guitar. She is completely decent at the piano, but a super gifted guitar player and guitar/vocal performer. There are two standout performances from this concert in Paris where it's s just her and her guitar. The songs are Cornelia Street and Death By A Thousand Cuts.
Taylor is very much a cat person! She is capable of a wide range of sounds, instruments, and genres. She's also written soundtrack songs for several movies. While she loves collaborating with other artists (and producers), most of the input and decisions on sound come from her. She's got her own management team (her parents are on it); her own Production company (coordinates her videos and tour films); perfumes; and sells merchandise (clothing, accessories) from her website. She is about to be an entirely self-made billionaire. She wrote her first single while daydreaming about her boyfriend in math class; she was 15. (Tim McGraw -- not about the singer). There is a progression of maturity in the lyrics as she's aged; she writes about her life or her feelings at whatever time she is living, and doesn't hire a lot of writers to tell stories she couldn't have lived. She started in country, but did covers of Eminem, Train, Tom Petty, and others to fill in early concerts; for her 1989 World Tour, she started getting local A-list artists to join her on stage; she did a Crossroads (a country music channel would get artists from two different genres on the same stage); hers was with Def Leopard (bc her mom is a superfan, and she'd heard their music since she was born). She has a strong sense of the ridiculous -- (watch her Blank Space video, then her acoustic performance at the Grammy museum --- she does NOT need production) For what she did early on, listen to Our Song (2006); Should've Said No (2009 CMA awards live); for an acoustic sound, look for anything with a guitar or piano. Some of her best performances have come from award shows (Grammy, CMA, CMT, BBMA). But for an interesting change in how production just doesn't matter: watch the live performances of We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (WANEGBT --- Swifties have so many long titles they abbreviate everything) first from the Grammy Awards (Red tour version) and the 1989 tour version("the ROCK version"). Then look at her as a fully mature artist (who is really tired of being the butt of the jokes): I Did Something Bad live at the 2018 AMA awards. She has always designed her stages for her performances -- they have been spectacle shows since she started. If you need links for anything, ask: thousands of them will get dumped in your inbox.
i'm only me when I'm with you (written at 13!) or jump then fall :) the eras acoustic versions are so strong ( a project for later release? JTF the best ever in Eras version)
Consider reviewing Exhile or Clean. Both such emotionally powerful songs. She did a live version of Clean in the rain during the Reputation tour where she talks about the SA lawsuit she won. So moving.
I like you. I understand how any musician must have curiosity at the very least at this global phenomenon that is Taylor S. Understand that much her audience has grown up with her. Early works reflect her teenage life. They are like an insight into the normal and adolescent feelings most of us girls experience. And she then shares with us her maturing process, and she holds back very little. And then she takes a huge step in her development... She reveals her true self at whatever cost... She goes ANTI-TRUMP in public. Tennessee can"t handle it. They thought she was their blond, blue-eyed amazonian arian princess. She was not. Repeat NOT. And then her lyrics knew no bounds. I am 68. I have not seen such a phenomenon in music since The Beatles and Bob Dylan. She seems to have no fear... Let the chips fall... One of the few music artists whose next album I always look forward to with great anticipation. Maybe it's her combination of utter strength and utter vulnerability that is her magic, and that along with her pure love for her audience is the key to her undeniable charisma. She is a poet. I think the world is better off with her contribution.
Maybe you should listen to some of her more rock-y stuff. What comes to mind is her performance of We Are Never Getting Back Together at the 1989 tour, and she shows off her electric guitar playing too. Hope you enjoy it: ruclips.net/video/6bVsg1Ik-GQ/видео.html

She’s one of the best songwriters of this generation and she grosses multiple genres which is very rare

Any swiftie could probably go to university where they are literally teaching a course on her songwriting
Interesting choice for first listen

Almost all if her live performances are gold . Must see she puts on amazing shows. And so many songs not on radio that are so good .
