What just blows my mind is the fact that these 3 musicians barely in their 20’s, turned out consistent awesome music, on analog equipment, seeming so effortlessly. Talent from true masters.
RUclips just ruined this for me. Can you imagine sticking a commercial in the middle of this song? It couldn't have been done by a human. No one is that heartless.
I’m 62 and I still listen to this album at least several times a year, there was a beautiful insert on the album that had a picture of Emerson, Lake & Palmer side-by-side in black-and kind of a gray scale photo. I have that framed in my house. Their style of music is for everybody, but I loved it and always will

I love this so much. Brings back my teenage years, watching ELP on TV late at night. Then I bought the live, triple album. It's a wonder I can hear, because I love loud rock.
4:54 - love the transition, and the dualing keyboards. No other 3 person group put more originality and strength into their work. And all 3 were so evenly great. Emerson and his ground breaking organ playing. Greg Lake with his million dollar voice. And perhaps the most underrated Carl Palmer with his incredible drum sets -- he was the star in concerts, IMO.
My older brother played this album all the time when I was a very young kid. Loved it back then and just rediscovered it again! The first album is really amazing as well.
Keith and Greg, your musical brilliance and emotional connection you gave listeners lives on and always will. Carl, you are the maestro, conductor, and tie that binds these songs. Thank you!
@@wiremuwifebash First Impression, Part One, the title of the upload. Fully aware it is a 30 minute piece in totality, as I did as a 13 year-old almost a half-century ago.
Absolutely awesome from a truly wonderful album Remember being amazed when I got this, goddamn it’s still on my turntable Progressive, melodic, weird, brilliantly played and ELP doing it as only they could
Cool tune. Our 3-piece played this at a high school talent show in 1974. I had a Hammond Porta-B and an Arp Odyssey for the gig. The Odyssey actually did a nice similar sample and hold on the Ab in the transition to Part 2.
Karn Evil 9 is the centerpiece of my favorite ELP album!!! On this one, Emerson reached his peak on keyboard playing. Bought the L.P. back on 1974 and still enjoy listening to it.
When you do a song that predicted the future of AI today, you know that Emerson Lake and Palmer are more than just grandfathers of progressive rock, they are prophets.
I too had 1st movement, 1st part at Best ELP song, until I experienced "Pirates" performed with full symphony and chorus on the Louisville, KY stop of the Works tour, in which Greg Lake was at his peak, vocally speaking.
I heard the live 'King Biscuit Flower Hour' version on the radio in 1996. When I bought the live CD in the early 2000s or so, I didn't realize it was double-sided, and first thought the track was missing! I prefer the beginning of this album track less due to the bell-tapping and mixed keyboard/piano (they obviously had their reasons at the time), but I see they put a great deal of effort into the recording.
saw this tour and the guy next to me was slamming down mad dog 2020 and on acid about half way into this song threw up on the girl sitting in front of him
Palmer is touring with videos of his departed band members......and his "young" guitar/bass buddies....I findit embarrassing... But his fans are eating it up....Go figure. .@@deanstanley2125
The ELP Works Tour, with full orchestra and chorus, set the standard by which all rock concerts are compared. My friends and I took in the tour's initial stop, in Louisville, KY. By that time, the Yamaha was Emerson's preferred keyboard, as it provided Keith a distinctly different expression of his genius, as was most evident in how they brought Peter Sinfield's lyrics to life in "Pirates".
My favorite piece of music of all time
I am not alone...
Also for me!!! Love It Forever!!!

use adblockers.
which is why if you use Brave as a browser, that isn't a thing.
Just happened to me. Who could be that evil to put a midroll-ad in any song, let alone a classic like this?

When I was a young child, I heard certain music and it gave me striking feelings of euphoria. This music was foremost in that effect on me.

Greatest musical spectacular of all time. Truly a masterpiece!

Became my favorite song when I first heard it (1973), and still is. I was fortunate to have seen them do it--twice--on their '74 tour.
Great album, for sure. I saw them in '77.
I saw them do it once in '74! Then, the Works tour. ;->
I love this so much. Brings back my teenage years, watching ELP on TV late at night. Then I bought the live, triple album. It's a wonder I can hear, because I love loud rock.
...on 8-track of course. Damned inconvenient breaks though.

Esse LP é ótimo
The greatest 8 minutes in progressive rock history.
Only surpassed by the 2nd and 3rd Impressions =)
indeed it is.
I never liked the one on the radio as much as this.

You've achieved my dream. I wish I could play it.
the entire thing????
oh man i was just listening to this a while ago
Absolutely fantastic.
Dr. John (Mac Rebbinac) song Right Place, Wrong Time was the source of this album title, Brain Salad Surgery, obviously.

This flucking RULES. great music is like that kids
Why aren’t they in the R&R HOF???
Cause R&R hall of shame don't know great music such as this.
Because the R & R HOF is an absolute joke. There are so many people in there that shouldn't be and so many people that aren't in there and should be.
Another one between so many 👍👍👏👏❤️🇬🇧
My favorite song of all time.🥇

GENIUS PIECE OF WORK,
the best prog song of all time?
Always remember Alan (fluff) freeman playing this on the radio 1 Saturday afternoon rock show in the 70s brilliant !!

I click for HR Geiger. ELP is a bonus. also that is Debbie Harry's, portrait I believe.
