Lyrics:
I've tried to mend
The love that ended
Long ago although we still pretend
Our love is surely coming to an end
Don't waste the time you've got to love again
We tried to lie
But you and I
Know better than to let each other lie
The thought of lying to you makes me cry
Counting up the time that's passed us by
I've sent this letter hoping it will reach your hand
And if it does I hope that you will understand
That I must leave in a while
And though I smile
You know the smile is only there to hide
What I'm really feeling deep inside
Just a face where I can hang my pride
Goodbye
Goodbye
We'll talk of places that we went
And times that we have spent
Together penniless and free
You'll see the day another way
And they could put the sunshine
for a nighttime where you lay
You're love began I don't know when
But if you do I know that
you'll be happy in the end
Formed in 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer helped define and set new standards throughout one of the most ambitious and experimental periods in 20th-Century popular music. Drawn from The Nice, King Crimson, and Atomic Rooster respectively, they were hailed as progressive rock’s first supergroup. Combining driving dynamics, intricate arrangements, and virtuosic skill, between 1970 and 1978, ELP released seven studio recordings and three live albums. Such was their popularity on both sides of the Atlantic that their records repeatedly achieved Platinum status sales.
Titles such as Tarkus, Trilogy, and Brain Salad Surgery created distinctive worlds that incorporated soaring themes, other-worldly timbres, yearning ballads, humorous pastiche and dramatic long-form conceptual works. While they adapted pieces by classical composers as stylistically varied as Bartok, Mussorgsky, Copland, Ginastera and Rodrigo, ELP sounded like nobody else but themselves.
The trio performed live one final time at London’s High Voltage Festival in July 2010 just weeks short of their debut gig 40th anniversary.
Although Keith Emerson and Greg Lake both sadly passed away in 2016, interest in ELP continues to grow, and Carl Palmer’s own band regularly performs a setlist dedicated to the unique music he helped create. ELP's music continues to find new audiences more than 50 years from their beginning, a striking testament to the group's irrepressible blend of energy, eclecticism, and visceral excitement.

That was music. Poor kids today😮
Well they've got "Power Rangers" haven't they?
I was 16 when this came out. Blew me away. Never heard anything like it up to that point. And never heard anything like it since. Still listen to it half a century, yes half a century later.
😊
One of the best prog rock albums ever
Абсолютно верно
Tarkus
The Best of the best !
Yeah, definitely my favorite overall with Works I being only a nose behind.
And Trilogy, the best two. But My God...
The master piece! Ever!
Ah to be 15 again and listen to this for the first time..... Bliss
Emerson, Lake & Palmer was one of the best progressive rock bands that came from the UK. Keith Emerson is one of the greatest keyboard players of our time. What a musical genius! RIP Keith and Greg. You left us with such beautiful and unforgettable music which will be listened for years to come.
This song still blows my mind. Most gorgeous intro and then goes ever so slowly into the middle uptempo section, then the acrobatic final section. A trilogy in more ways than one. Still my favorite ELP album. I can only imagine teenagers and adults hearing this in 1972 and being floored. I was only two then, so can't vouch for them. The 2nd section is like Moog/synth techno nearly 20 years ahead of time.
I was a teenager in 1972 and I was absolutely floored. But there was so much good music around in those days !
I agree!
I turned 18 that year… always on my turntable. Crushed by love that year and this song has forever been imbedded into my soul ❤
I saw them live while being stationed in Germany in 73.
Absoulutley best band!!
I was about 15 when I got into them still at school ,they were fabulous and the music was great back then ❤
The whole album is a masterpiece.
This song is just beautiful in its opening section, some great vocals and piano there. Then when it all changes, just wow, it is ahead of its time.
As an early teen , just moved to NY ( against my will } I found a litttle FM station , the iconic WNEW .... Tuned in at 10 pm for Allison Steel (the night bird ) , she played this whole , new LP ... Set me on a path to lifelong bliss and balance ....Been there , seen it all ...100's of shows .... " We have heaven " Jon Anderson - YES
Wow that's cool! Imagine just being drawn in to Endless Enigma, and going from there all the way through. What a ride that would have been at that time. Album was years ahead of its time.
WNEW was the best radio station!! The best DJ’s! I grew up in my teens through my 30’s listening to them! Pete Fornatale was the best. But Allison Steele “ the Night Bird”, Jonathan Schwartz, Dave Herman, Scott Muni… those were great days!!! Great music.
Today on Satellite Radio, the DJ’s are lazy and play the same stuff.
Grew up in the '70s listening to WNEW in NJ. Eat dinner and race to my room to catch the start of Jonathan Schwartz's show and then stay up as late as I could listening to "The Nightbird', some mornings bleary-eyed after listening to her whole show.
Masterpiece!
Emerson lives on in his exquisite music. God bless
I loved ELP!! I hv all their albums!!! They were all good. Pictures at an Exhibition is unbelievable.
I was so upset when Greg Lake died! That man had one of the best voices of our generation!!! Very few come along in a life time. That man was blessed. And we were blessed to hear him.
Go listen to FATHER CHRISTMAS!!! He has the vice of an angel!!
2016 was a bad year….the deaths of Keith *and* Greg.
Every time I hear this again, the wonder, amazement, and awe are just as fresh as my first listen. Absolutely breathtaking.
This is where ELP peaked artistically.
Fanfare for the Common Man was an Masterpiece, Works Vol 1 ? 🤔
@@Jack-sk2elIt's a cover version of an Aaron Copland piece. This is ELP, well EL at least and E for the music.
Brain salad surgery was slightly better.
The best song of the entire Trilogy album
This has been my favorite ELP song for about 10 years. The transition from the beautiful piano to insanely good synthetic is truly musical creativity at its peak. And From The Beginning is my favorite chill song by ELP.
Утро ,под волшебную музыку, уже прекрасно, несмотря ни на что!
Музыка моей юности. Мне так приятно, что тебе это тоже нравится.
translantion isn't good. the music of my youth.. I'm pleased you like it too!
Мне почти 65. Обожаю этот альбом с 70-х . И Трилогию. ❤
2:58 Chills everytime!
😊
Great song...
BELLEZA ETERNA !!!!
😊
Best Music EVER!
Genius.
Beautiful !!!
Jedna z jejich nejlepších skladeb ! Pure beauty
Awesome - I've not heard this track for many years! I was lucky enough to see ELP live at the Empire Pool Wembley in the early 70's. Just incredible and that sound live was so memorable
Musical geniuses!
Come puoi definirli se non straordinari questo trio leggendario per sempre emerson lak and palmer
TRILOGY / TARKUS / PICTURES..../ BRAIN SALAD SURGERY have been regularly played right up to the present day in my house....
dont HATE me....
I like LOVE BEACH / E.L.POWELL as well....
Love Beach….😮
I was in high school when this LP came out and a big fan of ELP. The moog solo in this number still sends me light years away.
EL & P has trilogy The Who has Qudrophenia less one now. Happy Christmas.🌕🌖🌗🌑🌕
Growing up in the 70'/80's my father would take us to tower records n buy all the great shit when music was really made. Out of guilt we would listen in what they now call a man cave. Colored lights in each corner of the ceiling with a black light, a triangle light box and each went to an instrument. Fell in love when I got older. Miss my Dad so much ❤
Phenomenal musicians.
Isn't this the nicest breakup song ever?
His voice was perfection.
Verano 😂 73😮😢😊
キース!ピアノもかっこえーなー
HUUUUUM BOM DE OUVIR sc
Kerm9zura la KK 😮😢😢😢😢😢😢😊😅😂1
Schön gleichgesinnte zu finden
El que llorA ez MaachAaa😂😢7😊😊
Majestuosos
One of my all-time favourite tracks. Just sublime. Some of the lyrics here are wrong though. Last couple of stanzas should read:
You'll see the day another way
And wake up with the sunshine
Pouring right down where you lay
You'll love again, I don't know when
But if you do I know that
You'll be happy in the end
❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍🥰🥰
😀👍👋
brain salad was where i shifted gears , but this is not that
It is !
Supergroup!
though I agree that 'Brain Salad' is the pinnacle achievement of ELP, this is their greatest song.
The All-timer in Prog
So spoiled for choice with these guys.
But I"d have to put Tarkus up there with this LP as my faves.
Would that be Cascade,MD. I've done my share in that little town.
Greg's voice sounds different on the intro. (to me)
