@@Evil_Vegan Its amazing but tbh I wouldn’t compare the two, let alone say they rival each other, they’re both perfect in their own ways and both scenes have completely different emotions they’re conveying. I would have liked it if it was a freeze frame. Say what you want about it being "artistic" or whatever, but all I could imagine was Howard just standing there looking at her smiling maniacly for like 10 minutes. I was like, ok, this is dumb now lol.
@@seank1033 They were considering a freeze frame but they kinda decided to keep rolling and she just went with it. You are entitled to have your preferences but in my opinion this credits scene deserves to be a classic. Pearl realizes she's lost all opportunity to leave the farm thanks to her own actions and is now gazing at her uneventful future which she will live forevermore.
I mean, Pearl killed her mother, her father, that guy she slept with and Howard's sister and Howard still stayed with her and even started killing with her 🤷🏾♂️ I need another prequel about the sick love story of Pearl and Howard
Missed opportunity in this film. I dunno, everyone thinks it was like, some brilliant masterpiece, but I thought it was undercooked, at best. Each to their own, but I worry audiences dont ask or expect enough of filmmakers. 🤷🏾♂️
@Mauro Acosta 🍓 It's all part of my "valid opinion." If you're triggered by my personal thoughts on modern-day audiences, that's on you, not me.🤷🏾♂️ Toodles!
@@seank1033 I can see why you think that, but to say some pros, I liked how it went with the 1950s theme when it comes to making films (the intro, the outro, the way the characters act, etc). It's rare to see a modern take like that. The acting is also incredible, even that entire breakdown Pearl had and that 7 minute long confession (which holy shit thats incredibly impressive for both writing and acting standards, mainly because it was a "Tell don't show" kind of scene and the actress had to speak like that for 7 minutes straight), there was also that entire sex scene with the scarecrow that immediately punched you in the face and basically yelled at the watcher that this women, Pearl, is insane and just creepy. Even then, she had depth to her that wasn't all just about her psychopathy. Yes, she was incredibly batshit, but there was enough depth to her that showed that she can still have cognitive thoughts, want to be loved by others, and have passion and ambition for a craft that won't accept her. But that's just my take on it
the scene were pearl pleads with her mum to let her go to the dance audition is very reminiscent of carrie pleading with her mum to let her go to prom, with the thunder and yelling and eveything 😭
Omg, I felt that way too. Her relationship with her mother reminded me of Carrie and Mrs. White too. While I understand her mother's pov to an extent, I feel like she turned it into suffering Olympics. She denied Pearl supper one day, and says they need conserve food. The next, she leaves a perfectly good roasted pig to rot out of pride. Also, the fact Pearl had to keep raiding her closet tells me that her mother never let her wear pretty things, which is sad.
@@mechengr1731 It was hard times and they were poor, but too proud for charity. That's not exactly rare. Pearl's mother had nice clothes, but as she said, they were her "old things", before the father got sick and times weren't as bad. Pearl mentions in her monologue that in the past they had multiple farm hands, which meant they were doing well enough to pay for help. That's just another downhill slide that Pearl has experienced. While they were never wealthy, the farm has been steadily decaying and we see how its state is even worse in X.
I think Howard shares the same darkness Pearl has, and that’s why he stayed with her and went off to war despite not having to, to fulfill his bloodlust
@@seank1033 bro it’s going to be a trilogy. the next movie will most likely explore Pearl and Howard a little older. we know they somehow lure strangers in, use them and kill them. they have to leave it open somehow for the next.
@@totalnonstopactionrivals6811yeah, it ain’t good. It can be possible to separate the art from the artist, though. Jeepers Creepers was a really good movie, but I understand completely if someone wouldn’t want to watch it, all things considered.
Seems like X, Pearl, Maxxxine have the potential to become horror cult classics. In due time, Ti West and Mia Goth would be able to attain more recognition for their own work.

Idk the Pearl, X and Maxxxine movies are REALLY popular already. A ton of girls went as Pearl and Maxine for Halloween and there are a couple thousand TikToks about them
Fun Fact: The actress who plays Pearls mom was actually the Intimacy Coordinator on "X" . This is really a Mia Goth Magnum Opus too bad the Oscars don't recognize Horror often enough for them to notice this.
I got to give real credit to the actor playing the dad, for guy who can’t move, he acts so much with just those eyes. And Mia Goth, she knocked it out of the park with her performance more than Babe Ruth.
Tragic part about Mitzi is that I really think she didn't get the part and died because of Pearl's insecurities 😔 I felt bad for everyone that died in this movie and knowing what Pearl's grows up to be maybe it's poetic justice at least
What gets me more is the fact that Pearl became who she was after just one failed audition. She let that one moment define her for the rest of her life. She saw that audition as a way to get out of her cloistered farm life. Now that it’s gone, she now thinks that she’s trapped on her family’s farm forever. Maybe things would’ve been different had Pearl had a different mother, or if Mitzy simply listened to her and said nothing, because no one else did. In hindsight, it’s easy to say what everyone should not have done. We have the freedom to say and do what we want, but there are consequences for our actions. The bigger the choice, the bigger the consequence. Pearl had a choice, to either let the audition be just a bump in the road or let it define her life. She chose the latter. Just as Pearl made her choice, so did her mother, Mitzy, and Howard. Maybe what the movie is trying to tell us is that what are we missing out on if we let our past define us today?
After a disappointment, she has psychotic crises and rage outbreaks, no matter what the person does, when she is disappointed, evil is already to come, no matter how the person treats it afterwards, anyone in her path is doomed
She was _really_ mentally sick before the audition though. She confessed to killing smaller animals long before she even heard of it. She killed her mom and Howard right before the audition, and then later talked about liking it. It wasn't giving up after one failed audition that stood in her way - it was who she was that did.
@@lunacouer Yep. She mentioned to the projectionist that they used to have more animals, then confessed that she enjoyed killing animals. And her mother strongly implied that she knew Pearl was a psychopath, which is why she wanted to keep her on the farm so she wouldn't be a danger to others.
If I were Mixie, I would have been like, “M’kay. Well, Pearl, we know what we have to do. As your friend, I need to help you get rid of the bodies, the evidence, and all of it. Howard and nobody else will ever know. It’ll be our secret.” and then when she has my trust, I'll knock her out, lock her in the basement and run like there's no tomorrow. You have to out-crazy the crazies!
Plus she can give pearl her opportunity to become a dancer Sell the farm house, travel around the world to look for auditions and so on 😂 Never speak of it again 🤫
I do feel sorry to a degree for pearl in the same way I feel sorry for the phantom of the opera. She got the raw end of the deal in life but it comes with too many gruesome consequences to not hate them. It's sad to say but it's like they had all the hope and optimism you can give a human being but sadly all the baggage possible. You can't help but pity them....and hope you're never in a room alone with them.
I can still pity the character of Pearl but it wasn’t her circumstances or baggage that made her that way. She pitied herself and her own situation but she had a home, food, health etc which many others didn’t. She took a trip to the cinema during a pandemic when she could have passed it on to her parents, especially her infirm father. Her mother was a refugee who had known real loss and hardship , her husband was in a terrible war and Pearl blamed them both rather than empathise. She was a fantasist. She wanted to be idolised, but she didn’t want to work to get there, rejected one time doesn’t mean she couldn’t keep trying. She’s like those people that kill their spouse and children rather than divorce them because it’s easier for them if they just didn’t exist. The character is a murderer, a rapist but Mia Goth’s acting brings a vulnerability and naive quality that make her pitiable which is amazing because she is a hideous human being.
@@akelly4207 okay time out. When I say baggage I mean she's clearly mentally unwell and just saying some one had "real issues" doesn't exclude that she is clearly effected by what her mother has said to her and kept her on the farm. Even then I'm not saying she isn't a bad person, she's pitiful. I'm not saying that as if it's some kind of out. Now another thing is that she isn't entirely blaming them as much desperately trying to leave the farm. She is an idealist, but she clearly was kept there her entire life. I don't know how to explain this but when a person is isolated from the world by living most of thier life on a small town or a farm, they develope these very idealistic ways of thinking and also are so isolated they have nothing to mark it against. They don't know any better because they're kept from enough people to not know any better. Also please stop with the "finish your plate kids are starving in africa" mentality. It doesn't help a person or even stop a personal issue to know someone else has it worse. She had her own issue, at her own time and place. That's it, it doesn't matter if was the depression or nor, if she has issue of her own, no amount of being grateful will solve mental issues.
@@Vashthestampede967 Dude, not trying to fight with you. You are allowed your opinions. I was pointing out that they were normal things most people live with. I also agree that I pitied her but more because of Mia’s performance because she absolutely had choices that others didn’t. She wasn’t a prisoner, she could have left at anytime, travelled to the city, worked and auditioned. So while she wanted things she wasn’t really prepared to leave the comforts she had and instead projected onto her mother and others blaming them. Because she’s pretty, young and has potential it seems such a waste she couldn’t have made it. But she never would have. Imagine someone like Manson who had a hard horrible upbringing and wanted a music career. It didn’t happen so he sets his cult members to kill people because he felt slighted or whatever. We don’t have the same pity for him. They were both disturbed so what it comes down to is we see Pearl emote but not Manson. Even though she really only felt bad for herself. Being able to empathise as a viewer is a good thing generally because it is what separates us from the monsters who only pity themselves.
@@akelly4207 I completely agree with your comment- I went into this movie obviously having seen X and knowing that this was a prequel about a young Pearl. I was expecting some explanation for why she was the way she was, what made her so deranged, etc, and instead got more questions than answers (not a complaint at all, I love when movies do that). Every character who was introduced was going to be part of the equation: "oh, her mother is super strict, so she must have abused Pearl until her mind broke" or, "oh, the Projectionist must be some terrible guy who exerted his influence on her". Her mother was strict, but probably not any more than other immigrants who had seen prejudice and hardship. The Projectionist was just a guy on the fringes of society who felt an attraction to Pearl. Nobody really made her the way that she was, she made the choices that she did, and we can never find an explanation for it, no matter how we look for one. I think it's just Mia Goth's incredible acting that makes us like Pearl in spite of ourselves, and makes us want to look for something to absolve her of her sins, even there's no coming back from what she's done.
From what I read, that shot over the credits happened because Ti West just wouldn't say "Cut". Mia apparently thought she would just smile for like a few seconds, but then the camera kept rolling. Those tears were probably real.

The scene with Pearl & Mitzy at the table was fucking incredible. & the emotion & feeling Mia was able to covey while smiling during the credits was masterful
I feel so bad for Mitzy because she really didn't get the part. She was telling pearl the truth about her not getting it. Before they went in mitzy was just as nervous as pearl was, so its not unbelievable that she screwed up as well. There were also more blondes in the line waiting. She only agreed because pearl was getting hyped and Mitzy just wanted to get out of there
@@whalewolf7477 I've always felt like she said what she thought Pearl wanted to hear. Since the barn scene where she says she feel things we know how fucked up her perception of things is
There one only 1 blonde waiting after Misty. Also it could go both ways, she told the truth that she didn't get the part got scared and lied that she did or she lied (already scared from Pearl admitting to killing her parents) then got scared and told the truth. Eithet way her getting scared made her flip from whichever side you are on which makes it even more brilliant.
35:10 I think in 'X' he said 'my wife is not well'.....I guess he figured he'd be a better husband staying with her and trying to stop her from killing people rather than calling the local asylum
Also, I think he is from the mindset, "Til death do us part." Plus whatever PTSD from the War. So he decided to play along. Not to mention his own fears

Let me say, a slow burn is not my thing. However, this is one of my favorites of the last 10 years. It is so clever the way they use the Spanish flu to make it relatable to our current times. And the acting is obviously incredible
Pearls monologue to Mitzy at the table, had me so captivated. incase you didn’t catch it, that was like a 5 minute uncut scene of Mia Goth ACTING. that and the after credit scene, i didn’t even talk during it. every word and every second drew me in. so fucking amazing.
The fight between Pearl and her mom looked like something straight out of Maury LOL Edit: I cannot WAIT for Maxxxine to come out. Mia is going to EAT the 1980s look
I loved X but damn i just LOVED Pearl! It was filled with so much suspense buildup and the last 40 minutes of Pearl full on breaking basically was so eerie. Mia Goth is one of the best actors i’ve ever seen! That 8 minute monologue is so impressive. I hope she gets the Oscar Nomination at least!!
I think that if the actress category was not so competitive this year, she could have been a contender for the Oscar. I hope that she is recognized by the Spirit Awards at least because she is a formidable talent. This movie was off the rails, but she definitely committed to the role and her 9 minute monologue was amazing.
So happy you reviewed this, lady! Though the one thing that bothered me that everyone was saying after this movie came out (before I watched it) was along the lines of "Everyone deserved it! Pearl deserved better!" While yes, she was dealt an unfair hand, and yes you can definitely sympathize with the character.. no, these people didn't deserve to die. Between her parents and Howard leaving, she could have just left. Doesn't matter how far or how long she lasted, she could've at least tried. It's 1918, Pearl! I was going to watch this movie with my sister first but I couldn't resist seeing your reaction. From what I watched with you I clearly see the parallels with Maxine's character in her ambition. Basically if you think about it, Maxine would have ended up like Pearl if she hadn't escaped her family and found sexual liberation. That's my takeaway "sexual liberation is liberation in general"😅 P.s I really hope you enjoy the "Curse of Chucky" it's one of my favourites and it has my favourite character.
Just showed my roommate/bestie this last night. The more I watch other people's perspectives of it (her, you, zzavid's) the more I love it and notice different things. It made me cry when her mother was yelling at her lol I relate to Pearl in so many ways but don't condone her actions either.

Ugh I love this movie and I’m so so so happy I saw it in theaters! Fun fact, the actress who plays the mother, Tandi Wright, was the intimacy coordinator for X! She didn’t originally intend to audition, but she wowed them and scored the role. Mia Goth is phenomenal, but I think Tandi gives a great performance opposite Goth! Pearl is 100% going to live on to become a horror icon. This movie is so gorgeous and Ti West is a master in style. I love how this movie gives major Wizard of Oz, old Hollywood technicolor vibes and the score is gorgeous. This movie is a prime example of how you do pandemic horror right. So glad to finally see your reaction and I can’t wait to watch you react to more Chucky!!
mia goth is such an incredible actress, a true mf scream queen!!! love her so so much! i really loved and enjoyed pearl and x so so much.the cinematography, the score, the acting, everything was just beyond incredible. i'd also like to share my theory on why i think howard stays with pearl. love can make you do crazy things sometimes and i think howard was truly devoted to her and felt that he was her protector (especially during those day). i also think that the reason he runs a guesthouse is to lure people in to help pearl satisfy her rage and keep her there so she doesn't do it in the outside world. he's an enabler unfortunately. i also believe that pearl being with howard also makes her feel trapped though, like his devotion kind of feed's her disillusionment towards her dreams and feels shame towards her desires which probably just made her want to kill more because (i believe) the whole reason she resulted to killing was due to feeling trapped all her life. she never got to leave the farm and her and howard stayed there until the day they died. loved your reaction to the film! keep up the amazing work!

I had to go back and look at what pandemic was going on in 1918. The Spanish Flu, was devastating. It was eluded to, but never fully discussed, but the face mask Pearl wore out, was a reminder of the last damn near 3 years.
They literally finished shooting X and decided to make Pearl. The fact the house and farm was deaged, wall papered, repropped, deforested and painted, is in itself… ⭐️Movie Magic. ⭐️ it’s the little things that get me.
Just watched this recently and it blew me away, one of my favourites from the last few years for sure. And now we finally understand why she always hated blondes 🤣
Regarding Howard, I feel like he didn't really care about the killings because he's always unsatisfied with things. I think he would be fine of killing too since he made a decision to join the war insteaf of staying at the farm.
I really enjoy these Ti West era tributes through horror, even if they get a little muddled 😅. I wasn't expecting a topical Spanish Flu reference in a technicolor horror prequel with a Wizard of Oz homage, that's for sure! Excited to see what he does with Maxxxine
"I bet the gator is looking real good right now.." Love you Alanda! Can't wait for Evil Dead but I also think you'll love 13 Ghosts, Cry Wolf, Black Christmas 2006 and of course Happy Death Day 2 😁
I feel like her miscarriage is represented by her breaking the gator egg and it being juxtaposed with Howard exploding. Her personal resentment reached a very high point. I mean that's obvious, but still.

I'll be honest, X wasn't my favorite. I did enjoy it, but the creep factor was the only element that grabbed me But this film adds so much context to X that it automatically bumps it up the list in terms of films I'll return to and enjoy over and over again Getting to see where the thread initially unraveled and why Pearl was so obsessed with Madeline in particular. Beautifully done.

@Mauro Acosta 🍓 It's all part of my "valid opinion." If you're triggered by my personal thoughts on modern-day audiences, that's on you, not me.🤷🏾♂️ Toodles!
@Mauro Acosta 🍓 I liked it and I have low standards..so they aren't completely wrong.
@@seank1033
I can see why you think that, but to say some pros, I liked how it went with the 1950s theme when it comes to making films (the intro, the outro, the way the characters act, etc).

Mitzy mentions he went to the war to spite his father
This movie really could have benefitted from exploring why he stayed with her....But nope. 🤷🏾♂️

I don’t know if I’d consider them Cult Classics, but I agree Mia Goth and Ti West are criminally underrated in the film industry
Oscars are stupid crap, horror movies are better off not recognized by them. It's just rich twats throwing a party imo😅
I got to give real credit to the actor playing the dad, for guy who can’t move, he acts so much with just those eyes. And Mia Goth, she knocked it out of the park with her performance more than Babe Ruth.
Yeah
And the actress who played the mother
Gurl she was scary (Not as scary as Pearl)
Tragic part about Mitzi is that I really think she didn't get the part and died because of Pearl's insecurities 😔 I felt bad for everyone that died in this movie and knowing what Pearl's grows up to be maybe it's poetic justice at least
“The look is flawless but the soul is RANCID”😂😂😂Mia Goth is an incredibly talented actress she eats every performance
I think she actually did get the part but they wanted a more blond hair
"became what she was"? She was ALWAYS what she was.

Never speak of it again 🤫
I do feel sorry to a degree for pearl in the same way I feel sorry for the phantom of the opera. She got the raw end of the deal in life but it comes with too many gruesome consequences to not hate them. It's sad to say but it's like they had all the hope and optimism you can give a human being but sadly all the baggage possible. You can't help but pity them....and hope you're never in a room alone with them.
This is such a beautiful and interesting written comment. I agree!
Mia really is amazing. She kinda reminds me of a young Shelley Duvall...another incredible actress.
From what I read, that shot over the credits happened because Ti West just wouldn't say "Cut". Mia apparently thought she would just smile for like a few seconds, but then the camera kept rolling. Those tears were probably real.
sadly this has been denied by Ti himself, he said he and Mia talked about it before shooting. it would've been a cool story behind the scene though

So happy you reviewed this, lady! Though the one thing that bothered me that everyone was saying after this movie came out (before I watched it) was along the lines of "Everyone deserved it! Pearl deserved better!"
While yes, she was dealt an unfair hand, and yes you can definitely sympathize with the character.. no, these people didn't deserve to die. Between her parents and Howard leaving, she could have just left. Doesn't matter how far or how long she lasted, she could've at least tried.

mia goth is such an incredible actress, a true mf scream queen!!! love her so so much! i really loved and enjoyed pearl and x so so much.the cinematography, the score, the acting, everything was just beyond incredible. i'd also like to share my theory on why i think howard stays with pearl. love can make you do crazy things sometimes and i think howard was truly devoted to her and felt that he was her protector (especially during those day). i also think that the reason he runs a guesthouse is to lure people in to help pearl satisfy her rage and keep her there so she doesn't do it in the outside world. he's an enabler unfortunately. i also believe that pearl being with howard also makes her feel trapped though, like his devotion kind of feed's her disillusionment towards her dreams and feels shame towards her desires which probably just made her want to kill more because (i believe) the whole reason she resulted to killing was due to feeling trapped all her life. she never got to leave the farm and her and howard stayed there until the day they died. loved your reaction to the film! keep up the amazing work!

i swear you have the timing of an insomniacs dream. i was just thinking as i scrolled that you mentioned pearl. i absoulutly loved your reaction. much love stay safe all
Was having a rough weekend but this put some pep back in my step! I literally squealed with joy opening RUclips and seeing you. Thank you and I hope you enjoy your time away with family! ❤
Mia Goth was snubbed, her monologue over the kitchen table is amazing. The Oscars have this axe to grind (no pun intended) with horror, save for a few choice examples.
YES THE DAY HAS FINALLY COME THANK YOU SO MUCH GIRL! MUCH LOVE❤
I’m so happy this finally got uploaded 💗
We *love* a Sister Act 2 reference! 😂 Thanks for another *fabulous* reaction, doll!! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you’re the bestest!!! ❤
Pearl is one of my favorite movies so this is like the third reaction video I've seen on this film and yours has been the best. Very funny. I'm not even halfway through and you are cracking me up. Good job.
Mia Goth has worked her way up to being one of my favorite horror actresses. She DID THAT
23:24 - "But the sorrow is also present." I just died when I heard that LOL.
Just watched this last night too! Predictable, but strong origin story nonetheless... and that long monologue?? Mia carried the whole thing.
