I am telling you there is nothing like Carolina charm and hospitality!!! We do have it all here, mountains and beach within a 5-hour drive! Very doable for a family! We know you have to go visit other places but we want you here in our beautiful state!!!

@@TheHollarHomestead I cannot explain how torn we were with our children living out west. But when we found it, we knew it was right and we have no regrets. That is what you will feel too.

The ticks in Missouri are a nuisance but they are not hardly ever Lyme disease ticks. In North Carolina they are almost all Lyme Disease ticks. I have done a lot of research on this and we did not know that we we bought here. But it is a big deal for us. We are so glad we chose here even though there are wonderful people in North Carolina too.
"North Carolina community" can be replicated anywhere. While North Carolina is awesome, it's the people that matter! Good folks are good folks wherever they live!
It sounds like you've discovered the beautiful people of Appalachia. You'll find the same sweet folks living in the hills and hollers from Georgia to Tennessee, NC, Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia, too. It's that blend of southern courtesy and mountain independence that makes it feel like home to so many folks who come to the area. Hope you guys will make it your home too.
I think the fact your feeling hard to leave.. maybe something is trying to tell you where your supposed to be. . Community is a huge part of being on a farm/homestead or even just in a small town. I hope you find your home soon.
I have to say, this video came at a perfect time for me. We are in midtransition and this year has been very stressful. Property is bought, new house is started but not finished, old house is not sold yet and every thing is out of sorts. But this renewed my faith in why we are doing this. Loving, caring, homesteading family is everywhere!! I think we are everywhere so that we can grow and encourage others along the way. Thank you for reminding me of that!❤️ Safe travels!
My family and I live on a 30 acres homestead 3700 feet up on a mountain near Boone NC. We love it hear and can't imagine being anywhere else. NC has so much to offer.
The commune idea may sound a bit crazy, but something like that sure sounds nice to me. I'm a 58 yr old woman, and doing this on my own. I'm gardening, growing fruit, and raising chickens, but there's so much more I would love to do but can't. I just imagine a wonderful community where I can offer my help to those who need what I can do, and having help raising pigs and a dairy animal and other misc things. Or even trading and bartering these things. Sounds wonderful!
Sarah i would so love to do things like your doing, i try things and such but with the wheel chair its rough, it doesnt stop me, just makes it harder and i have to think out of the box to do things , i love that you have a garden. i'm 54, i live now in the city in a 3 story building)had to leave country life cuz couldn't get anywhere or into stores and such, I use my tiny balcony to grow things but not lots ..........keep growing that garden and enjoy the harvest hugsssss from Ontario Canada

Great video. NC is great and I just don't want you to forget East TN. It is pretty much identical to Western NC but NO PERSONAL INCOME TAX and NO PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX in TN. I only bring it up cause I do remember in a past video you looking for a lower tax state. It may not be a big deal for y'all because you were in California so any state will likely be much cheaper tax wise. But I do understand your personal connection with all of those folks in NC for sure. Hard to believe it's been 8 months. I have only been following a few months I guess and have seen your subscribers actually double. I love it. Stay safe.
My husband and I recently moved back to NC from FL (recently as in 1 month). NC just kept calling us back. OG from Cali. I dont know what it is, but NC just feels like home.

Very brave and totally admirable of you to do what you’re doing. 🙌🏼👍🏼 I live in the UK and I share your dream of jumping off the treadmill and into a more self sufficient and fulfilling life - it’s tricky here with planning permissions etc and land is very expensive- but I guess buying land is not the only way . . . I love the land here (I live in the south west of uk - very very beautiful- a bit like NC by the looks😊) and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else I have learnt so so much from watching Justin Rhodes - his generosity is life enriching for many. One of the factors that will definitely influence your decision will be the availability of property and the price. That may help you make the final decision. It did that for us. We were able to get a house and 5 acres for $70,000 In Virginia. And since we had already lived in VA that made it easy. Add Joel Salatin working in the congress to keep things homesteader/small farm friendly, it seemed like a no brainer to us. We are only 8 miles from the NC state line so we are also very close to the NC community as well.

Its amazing how warm the homesteading community is. Ive tried to find this my whole life and finally found it at 48. Its a giant family that keeps growing it seems with the most amazing and wonderful people. If you come thru GA I live in a small town on US #1. Be glad to show you around. It's a great homestead area. I'm just now starting one on 2 acres. So far since February I've started a garden. Bought 3 goats that magically made 4 And began a small flock of chickens. Lots more to do such as a RUclips channel and beginning a profit from the garden and animals. It just takes time. But I'm patient.
I moved from Indiana to North Carolina. I love NC and always miss Indiana because my family is there but NC is the place to be. I think NC will be a good choice if you decide to stay. Plus that means I'll have more farms/homesteads to come visit :)

It's funny to hear you say "in limbo". Really, when it comes to taking the steps, you've taken the biggest one you'll ever take already. As big a step as buying your property will be, it won't be the biggest step taken in your journey. (Well maybe the second biggest 😊) To have come to a decision, to choose, to be together, on the same page, and going out of what was normal for you, truly is the biggest step. It makes my heart glad so many young couples choose family, and health rather than money and possession. I believe your journey will inspire more people to at least think and talk about taking a step, big or small. Blessings ~

Also keep in mind.... you may move to the NC mountains, but you’re also a few hours away from the beautiful beaches. Best of both worlds! Hi ur in the most beautiful part of the country I’m from ala I like to go there ever fall as far as the weather in 20 miles from fla line yesterday was 81 in fact my air cons is still going nites in 50s an 60s never gets lower than mid 20s far a day r so

When you kids find the right place God will show you both that it's the right place you won't have to convince each other than it is... you'll find a lot of people if they come here come here come here.. But UNTIL you know inside your own spirits and God shows you it's all right spot... then it's not the spot until God tells you... Kinda figured you'd feel that way about NC! Curious to see what you think of MO. I'm in WA right now, wish I was in N Idaho (which isn't too far from where I'm at, just an hour or so, but WA is becoming more communist-y than I like) but my pipe dream would be to move to MO. Will never happen because of life, but I think that would be #1 on my list of places to check out.
We have been through Missouri already, and it is second on our list! Land is definitely cheaper. A drawback for us is the lack of mountains. We really like mountains!

We have definitely felt a pull here. We’ll keep traveling, mostly because we have other friends to see, but we might be back to NC.

Great video! We moved to NC a few years ago, to the Piedmont area. We want to find a home in WNC to start homesteading too. It seems like an amazing community there! So, yes...move to NC! 😁❤

When you kids find the right place God will show you both that it's the right place you won't have to convince each other than it is... you'll find a lot of people if they come here come here come here.. But UNTIL you know inside your own spirits and God shows you it's all right spot... then it's not the spot until God tells you... Kinda figured you'd feel that way about NC! Curious to see what you think of MO. I'm in WA right now, wish I was in N Idaho (which isn't too far from where I'm at, just an hour or so, but WA is becoming more communist-y than I like) but my pipe dream would be to move to MO. Will never happen because of life, but I think that would be #1 on my list of places to check out.
We have been through Missouri already, and it is second on our list! Land is definitely cheaper. A drawback for us is the lack of mountains. We really like mountains!
Knowing people in a location makes moving so much easier. The real question now is: how much of a day do your kids have in this?
We actually ask them quite a bit what they think of the areas we have been, and what they do/don’t like.
In that case, I’d almost bet money on your favorite location.
