Chair: I would recommend Herman Miller Aeron, that I'm using at office and recently bought for home. They are pretty expensive, but you can find *really* good deals on almost new/refurbished on eBay, and these chairs will last you forever. Before buying make sure you select the right size (they have 3 sizes).
I'd second this chair. Yes it's very expensive, but you only get 1 spine and if you spend any significant time in it it's worth taking care of your body.
+1 for Herman Miller Aeron. Most comfortable chair ever. If you look they are used every where.

For chairs: Tell autonomous you'll do a review of one. They're basically a budget Herman Miller, and they've had a few people do reviews that should overlap with your target audience.
Best chair: The Concorde from Global Furniture (it's literally classified as a 24hr chair it's so comfy)

Suggestion on *really nice chairs* ? Herman Miller Embody/Aeron, Vertagear Triigger 350 SE... If you want a ''affordable'' one, check out Autonomous Kinn Chair or Ergo Chair 2, they are still pricey but very worth it.
Before you go blow a bunch of money on a Herman Miller chair, check out the Markus office chair from IKEA, my brother has one and it is nice, I think Matt Granger has one also. Also look for one of those stores that buys commercial items like furniture from businesses that go out of business or upgraded or updated their furniture, you can find some amazing deals at those places.
Studio spaces are always a work in progress! I’m planning on doing a couple videos where I clean out my garage and turn it into a really nice shop/studio space
Inside of the linnmon is just honeycomb shaped card board that’s why it’s hollow and lightweight. It’s not a full slab of wood
I think that if you want to shoot at an angle you can put some ND gel on the window so it will bring down the exposure or you can put curtains so it will look like day but not blown out

Hey Gene, try looking for ErgoChair from Autonomous website, the have really cool stuff there. I got similar one from different brand since I had to wait too long for it to arrive during quarantine

Either a Herman Miller Sayl chair, the Mirra 2, or the Embody chair. All amazingly comfortable, especially for long editing. I’ve used the Sayl chairs for years and have never gone back. 🤙🏻

Awesome chair recommendation: Herman miller aeron. I just got the stool version a few weeks ago, it's awesome. As for the desk.. I built my own with a custom piece of reclaimed black walnut and kee klamp pipes, and put it on locking casters, so I can rearrange my small studio for videos. Desk is 24in x 60in with 6 shelves. I love my studio.
Hey Gene, is there a link you have for the backdrop holder? I been trying to find that to put my backdrop paper but no luck. I just find it with the tripod legs but I'd like to avoid that and have it cleaner like yours. Thanks

**Warning about those IKEA tabletops** They are hollow filled with cardboard. DO NOT use a monitor arm clamp on it. Especially with your ultrawide, it may seem fine at first but there will be a high chance of the table breaking at the clamp and your monitor will drop and get damaged. If you must mount it.... reinforce it with some plywood. Hope you see this before anything happens!!!
Love the setup. Thanks for the great idea on the standing desk with an IKEA "pick your own size" top. Certainly never thought of that combo. Makes me wonder what I can do at my house. And by "what I can do at my house" I mean how can I spend money.....LOL...I'm so poor thanks to all you internet people. Quick side note. I had a long piece of Ethernet cable ran from one side of the house to the other through the crawl space under the house. One of the best decisions I've ever made. Now I have strong uniform Wifi and physical ports in basically all parts of the house.

Duvetyne is the actual name for it, it's a specific material instead of "blackout curtain" because it's really designed not to *reflect the light* either, as you know.
In regards to your comments towards the end about being surprised people are watching these videos... I think there is a lot of interest in behind the scenes type content because you make it entertaining and you probably don't think you do but you do. Every time I see on of your vlog videos it's an immediate watch.

For the blackout stuff you should look into the IKEA Fyrtur and Kadrilj, or whatever they are called over there. Basically electric shades that connect with the IKEA gateway for a smart-home solution. Not terribly expensive either and comes in a variety of sizes. Btw I can't decide between a 16-35mm/f4 or just get like two primes 24mm/f2 and 35mm/f2. All the best Gene!

Just got a Herman Miller Mirra chair for $275. It's great! The aeron (size C) was my second fav I tried. Check Craigslist, FB Marketplace. There"s some big sellers in NoHo and Alhambra of used Aeron's. The guy in Alhambra had really nice quality Aerons, some people had dirty and broken ones lol.
The middle is just cardboard btw. I’m thinking of getting the Karlby countertop for a desk myself

Gene - When I reorganized my office, I got a stand/sit desk and for the sitting part I got a gaming chair... a DXRACER, because I figured who sits more than gamers?! I've had it for two years and still love it! (It has a built in ottoman that slides out for those multi-day, heavy deadlines...) Not to mention people always compliment it, because it looks good..."Hey chair! you look dope!"

For chairs, pick up a used Herman Miller Aeron on Craigslist! Theyre like $600 chairs that go on sale from closed office spaces for $300!
Herman Miller chairs are the best! Expensive but extremely well built and provide amazing lumber support.
Get a "gaming" chair. The Secretlabs Titan is very comfortable and very good for your back.
For chair's, you probably are looking at a Herman Miller Aeron or Steelcase Leap V2 if you want really nice chairs that have 10 year warranties brand new if I am not mistaken, however can readily find them used in the US. For lower end could probably look at the Autonymous Ergochair 2. Only good racing style chair if probably from Secret Labs. From buying many cheap chairs from amazon, staples, etc. don't be like me and just buy something to sit in, they suck after a month. If you can, highly recommend sitting chairs prior to purchase if possible.
If you use a monitor mount, use a clamp style and sandwich the table with scraps of hardwood. That desktop will break supporting a wide monitor like you have. Loving the new space.
I've got a linnmon desk top, bought a monitor arm for my 32inch Ultrawide, it bowed the desk! It's because as you said, its a hollow desk top 🙄😒
I resolved my issue by buying a strip of aluminium for the top of the desk, and used some spare wood for under the desk 😁
Can't go wrong with Herman Miller chairs, especially if you're sitting for extended amounts of time. Pricey but worth it!
Honestly, I only watch the Gene Nagata videos and very rarely (once a month) watch Potato Jet videos. The lower production value of these make them so much more fun to watch, and it gives a sort of personal connection. In my opinion, shots filmed on your phone or ZV1 are better because it really makes us feel like we have some connection to you. The ARRI or FX9 shots seem forced and fake. That's just my opinion, and I will always love your videos. :)
Dont do the "duvatine".... Do automated blackout blinds or curtains. That way, when you're editing, you can open those windows up and not feel so trapped.
